[Review 582] yoghurtcool@misocool

misocool 20/12/2009

Shop B231-B233, K11, 18 Hanoi Road, Tsim Sha Tsui
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/yoghurtcool-misocool-e2050802

Previously tried their Quarry bay branch, went all the way there to dine, and then a few days later they opened a branch in Central! Ahh I didnt need to go all the way there to quarry bay, and that branch is no where near the mtr.

Recently was at K11 to check out how artistic it was, but not that artistic.

Saw the separate yoghurt section at misocool, so tried it.

As expected it tasted like the soft yoghurt at Berrygood and Yo mama, however the choice of topping were less, from my memory there were 10 choices, but I can only remember the following, toasted coconut, diced strawberries, mango, chocolate crunch balls, and crispy star crunchies.

The yoghurt is slightly sour, so chose toasted coconut to sweeten it. However it is not the proper frozen yoghurt like the Apollo fruit yoghurts.
The portion of yoghurt could have been more, the center was a hollow hole (as shown on picture).

Just felt like having some instant noodles, so got a large portion of Indonesian noodles in sauce.

I was told it was 2 packets of noodles for the large portion but the portion quantity was more like one bag of instant noodles.

The noodles were not that soft, and the garlic mixed well in it.

Was given two thin satay skewers as chopsticks to eat the noodles with!!

[Review 580] Consistently good white curry @ 沙嗲王 Satay King

Didn’t know what to have for dinner, so decided to eat at Satay King, the food here is always good if you pick the right stuff.
On the way there, the queue to the elevator was long, I was expecting it to be quite full on arrival, however on arrival, the restaurant was only 70% full, so got a seat without waiting.

As a basic choice, I always go for the white curry, tastes consistent every time, this time I chose the Japanese crunchy chicken to go with it, when it arrived it was a bit different to how I imagined it to be.
The Chinese description was “K Chui chicken”, so I thought it would be like chicken nuggets in steak form, but instead it was fried pieces of chicken, the chicken tasted better than I thought, it tasted like chicken dipped in red beancurd sauce and deep fried.
The white curry is always as good as usual, and it was good the sauce and chicken was separated.

The chicken curry set came with fried salt and pepper tofu and passion fruit tea.
The tofu was a bit soft and silky, I would have preferred the firmer type, and as for the drink it was quite good, not artificial fruit essence.

As for the other starters, one was a mistake, it was called Golden potato, which I should of guessed was sweet potato not lovely savoury potato.
Then also had the clams in black bean sauce, which was surprisingly good for a place like that, it was slightly gritty, otherwise it was good.

Finally the prawn cakes were a bit over fried, and a bit boring too, the prawn patty was tasteless.

As mentioned before, I still havent eaten any good food at Sai Kung, apart from McDonalds or Starbucks which is just the same as anywhere else.
I havent been to Sai Kung for ages, but quite alot of restaurants have shut down, so hopefully the future ones will be better.

This noodle joint serves noodles and western food.

I ordered the sausage with egg, not really worth paying $45 for it, I knew I wouldnt be full after eating it but I didnt order the sausage platter for $52 because its my first visit, and to be on the safe side I ordered less.

It was a bit strange, there was stir-fried legumes and onions as a side.
The vegetables reeked, it tasted of fried beef ho-fun, so i suspected they cooked the vegetables after cooking noodles.

The seating in this place is rather cramped, hard wood tables and stools.

This is the first time I purchased a non savory item, they don't usually have Kaya for Thai food, but they had these cute little buns with Kaya paste inside.
Just as the picture shows, there is a generous dollup of Kaya inside.
It is thick, but not that strong in pandan taste, and a little too sweet.

This is the cheapest Christmas lunch I have had so far, but not that British, firstly the starter was quite oriental, containing sugary sweet papaya.

Then the mains came with baby sweetcorn too.
I get annoyed when I order TEA and they ask if I want it with Lemon or Milk, because then the whole place doesn't feel that British, and tea is with milk traditionally.

Anyway, just another option for people I guess.

Overall, it was turkey roll with dates, gravy, broccoli, cauliflower, half baked/boiled potatoes and mash.
The mash was the pre-made ones where you add water to it.

The dessert was dense sponge with peel and currants and vanilla sauce, although it was meant to be brandy, I couldnt taste it.
I think I would only recommend the Christmas lunch to Hong Kongers, It is value for money since it is a five course for $98 (bread, starter, soup, main, pudding and tea).

Before this dessertery, there were quite a few beforehand before they closed down.

The design of this one is rather vibrant, and the variety is different and good.

I got the 3.6 hokkaido milk pudding in chocolate milk with Baileys.
It was served rather neatly on a mini tray, and quite thoughtful of them to provide a small glass of water, especially when some desserts can be quite sweet.

The milk pudding tasted better than the one at Michelin desserts in sheung wan.
The chocolate milk was a bit boring, but when the baileys was added, it made the whole dessert light up.
The amount of baileys given was quite a fair bit too.

Food here is good, but service and chopsticks are not that acceptable.
Firstly had to eat with disposable wooden chopsticks, ready to snap in half at any time.
One of the waiters stunk of BO!
Anyway back to the food.
Whelks in sauce:
a bowl of four whelks in sauce, I thought they would be chewy, but they turned out to be sweet and tender.
Mussels in miso and sake sauce:
was impressed the mussels were fresh, not the frozen ones.
Sakura shrimp and veg tempura:
was not the item I wanted to order, but it tasted ok,
Sakura shrimp and peach roll:
This one tasted the best, ground raw shrimp inside with sweet peach slices inside.
The roll was coated in sakura shrimps, but the thing that let it down was that it didn't stay in one piece when you picked it up with chopsticks.
Overall the food was good, but had difficulty eating mussels and whelks with only a pair of wooden chopsticks and mini fork.

Found a burger place that does croissants instead of muffins for breakfast.
Got three items:egg, mushroom and cheese croissant and the sausage, egg, bacon burger with mini hash brown bites.
Drinks were included so got coffee and normal tea.
Drinks were ok, I thought the croissant was the best, the egg was tasteless and was tasty with the melted cheese and mushrooms.
As for the sausage and bacon burger, it was ok too, a sausage patty sliced in half and placed in the long bun. The bacon was a bit chewy.
The mini hash browns were quite good too, bite size much better than McD's.

Not really my cup of tea, but my friends went there, so I went.
Ordered a lot of stuff as shown, the best was the mini abalone at $38 each.
The prawn paste was also quite good.
The location of the restaurant is quite far fetched, so a bit hard to locate.

As usual, their lamb hotpots are good, rich beancurd sauce with pieces of water chestnuts, mushrooms, dried beancurd and lamb.
There was also a separate plate of lettuce to put in too.

The lamb was quite tender, but a knife and fork was needed, as chopsticks were useless.

The beancurd sauce that was provided was good also, but slightly too sweet.

Had one of those coupons for half a dozen of complimentary cakes, so decided to get a whole cake instead and pay extra.

Got the 55% belgian chocolate cherry cake.

Basically the cake was quite rich, same with the sauce.
Compared to Maxim's Valhrona, the maxims one has the chiffon texture, and the St Honore is richer.

I only liked it because of the cherries.

Needed something to go with my Pate, so I got the Maxim's cheese crunchies, sticks of savory biscuits, with crispy baked cheese bits on it.
I selected this one, as the cheese flavour isnt that strong, and light enough to eat with the pate.
On it's own, the crunchies taste ok, the crispy cheese gives it flavour.

The prawn burger was my favourite last year when it was launched, so had to get it again as they are serving it this year.
Same as before, but better with the option of the double patty one.
I just felt the sauce should be proportionate, ie more sauce for the double patty.
The patty is moist, slightly gelatinous with bits of prawn in it.
It would be good if it was permanently on the menu.

Quite interesting, they have been opening various branches in HK within the second half of this year.

I have always felt that this is a better option compared to "Baat fong", the choice of soup and noodles is much better, and the condiments are good quality too to go with the dumpling.

Same as North point, the dine-in experience is much better than the food court experience.

Got the $148 light dinner set that includes miso soup, boltan sashimi, fat tuna sushi, foie gras sushi, baked oyster, some other sushi and dessert which was cherry tomatoes and sake jelly.

Since I was full from lunch, It was just the right selection to have.

The miso soup tasted like normal miso soup, but had cute enoki mushrooms in it, with the stalks chopped off, so it looked like mini mushrooms!
The baked oyster was ok, however I thought the sauce that went with it could have been better, it was just plain baked japanese mayonnaise on top with dried paprika peel.

The rest of the sushi was really good and lastly the dessert, I wasnt expecting it to taste good, because tomato is not really a dessert fruit, but it turned out to be good as well, the tomato was sweetened, and the jelly went well with it too.

All my friends complain about it every time, yet they come back once in a while, I am amazed how they complain yet still come back!!!
Anyway the rice that comes with the steak or whatever mains they offered that day is fried rice, which really doesn't match.
The service is really bad too, the waiters always get the orders wrong and slow at bringing out the food.

Already had roast turkey last week, so this is part 2, too lazy to write about it, since I wrote about it last year, and its standards have remained
http://www.openrice.com/restaurant/commentdetail.htm?commentid=1963111

Last year I didn't go to Carnegies, either they didn't have the xmas lunch or it was so conveniently located, I could try it anytime.

I was surprised it all tasted really good, the stuffing was the best, strong with herbs, and there were bits of meat in it. The bacon wrapped sausage was good too, it was salty from the bacon.
The roast vegetables were slightly over roasted but ok, I liked the potatoes as they were cut to smaller pieces, and parsnips were good.
The Brussels sprouts could have been softer, they were so hard, my fork couldn't get through it!
As for the turkey, I was surprised it was tender and juicy.

Then for dessert, had minced pie, not baked but microwaved, as the pastry was soft.
To finish it off, had a nice cup of tea.

Third cake I have tried in their Christmas selection, I am saving the ones that I think will taste the best till last.

This time had the hazelnut cheesecake, finely grounded hazelnuts amongst the smooth cheesecake paste, almost like grounded wheat.
There was slight hints of hazelnut in the taste, but also tasted of almond essence which was a bit weird.

Anyway looking forward to try the rest next time!

This time tried their dinner set with a choice of two dishes with rice and soup.

The soup was a pot of herbal soup with lumps of pork and chinese herbs, didnt know what chinese soup it was, but it smelt like and tasted of savory coffee.

Each grain of rice was distinct and not too hard or soft.

The chicken in "three cups sauce" was basically stir fried with onion, the onions were caramelised and sweet by the soy sauce (Swiss chicken wing sauce), the chicken tasted really nice, but the only complaint was the chicken was chopped up bone parts with sharp bits of bone ready to pierce your mouth.

I don't know what is with Chinese cuisine, they just serve bones and called it chicken, even with spare ribs, there are no meat on them.

Lastly the fish was quite good, not overcooked.
