Summer fiesta at Spaghetti House
2018-03-23  2054 瀏覽
I am so glad, Spaghetti house has launched the summer menu because they have my favourite pasta with lemon and other summery dishes.
While I was deciding what to order, I had the strawberry cooler which was refreshing as well as photogenic.

To my surprise, there was fresh melon at the bottom which makes such a different to tinned cocktail fruit.

Started off with the [Spaghetti with lemon, dill and shrimps] pasta and it tasted better than I had expected.
The spaghetti was al-dente infused with lemon yet you could also taste some slight bitterness of the lemon peel.
It would be great if there was a wedge of lemon served beside it because I like my lemon strong and the dill could have been stronger as it was just sprinkled on top so the flavour didn't really come out when it was cooking.

Next was the [Lobster claw salad with pomelo in white wine vinaigrette] which turned out to be such a big portion that it seemed good for three people.
It was refreshing with pomelo meat bursting with sweetness and chunks of lobster claws.
Finished with the [Prosciutto, air dried beef and arugula pizza] which was loaded with Prosciutto and air dried beef.
The saltiness of the prosciutto and beef worked very well with the pizza while the arugula and balsamic vinegar balanced the flavour and heaviness.

I went here for the new KUNG SOLDIER pasta which is spaghetti with Sichuan Kung pao chicken.
The idea of spicy spaghetti was good but it tasted too sweet and the pieces of chicken tasted sour.
There was funny and tasty pasta too.

The Conchiglie rigate with "homemade beef ribs" in red wine sauce was mind blowing!
I wish I knew how to make beef because Scientists still havent mastered animal engineering yet.

The picture shows the Conchiglie rigate in sauce but when it came the Conchiglie rigate was on the side so it went cold quickly and it would be tastier if it was cooked with the beef.

After seeing lots of promotion on the spaghetti with scallops and dill in lemon sauce, I decided to check it out.
Unfortunately, it was Honked Chinese style pasta.

Firstly there was black pepper and flying fish roe in it which was not shown on the product shot, then the star of the show DILL was missing!

The worst fxxk up was the lemon sauce, they did not use fresh lemon but some stupid lemon syrup that tasted sweet and the pasta was laced in oil.

It is so sad that Spaghetti house and Pizza Hut serve Chinese style Western dishes!
This dish would probably pass the taste test of a local HKer because they probably don't know what dill is and localized lemon sauce is sweet anyway.
NOT TASTY AND NOT FUNNY, the opposite of their menu motto.

Decided to get the lobster set for two which costs $348 with 10% service charge.
The set includes: Loster bisque, Linguine with whole Boston lobster in Sicilian pomodoro sauce, Porcini and seafood risotto with Coffee or Tea.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Loster bisque

The soup was too salty and it just tasted like their usual seafood soups with lobster meat added into it.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Linguine with whole Boston lobster in sicilian pomodoro sauce

There was not much lobster meat in the lobster and the lobster did not taste fresh.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Porcini and seafood risotto

The risotto was too sickly and it contained too much milk. The fish they used for the risotto was the frozen type and the porcini mushrooms were tasteless.
The risotto rice was too soft and mushy.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Coffee

Hong Kong style coffee!

[Review 992] Banana crumble, beat that! @ 意粉屋 The Spaghetti House

Normally its apple crumble, but here its "Baked Banana and chocolate crumble", thats why I decided to give it a try.
Before it arrived, I imagined it to be mushy sweet baked banana beneath the crumble, but when it arrived it was only the crumbs at the top were baked, the banana beneath it was fresh cut slices and cold.
The chocolate sauce was runny but not too sweet, it was bitter, so I asked what it was, and it turns out to be Martini.
There was a scoop of ice-cream on top too.

The interior of this Spaghetti house looked good, so went in for dinner.
However the promoted Chinese New Year menu was all in Chinese and put me off that I didn't even want to look at it.
Ended up ordering the sets which included asparagus soup, lasagne and rice.
The asparagus soup was very good, it contained fresh asparagus and the taste was as good as Bachelor's instant asparagus soup.
The rest of the food tasted how it should.
It would be great if there was an English menu for the seasonal set dinners!

Ordered the sweet potato milkshake which is slightly different to the product picture.
However I do not have the product picture.
The product picture was basically purple milkshake with jelly in the drink.
When it came, it had wheatgerm on the top, and the milkshake was watery like rather than thick.
The taste was rather milky too.

Previously I have had pasta cooked with lemon, it makes the whole dish very appetizing.

Carnegies in Wan Chai does pasta with zucchini and lemon, whilst California Pizza kitchen does pasta with chicken in lemon sauce.

The spaghetti house version is slightly disappointing in that it is totally sweet, and the pasta is bland.

As for the baked escargots with potato, it was slightly different to what I was expecting too.
I didnt expect to have a large clump of tinned spinach in the middle, and the Parmesan cheese powder on top made it taste like inflight meals.

[Review 586] Spaghetti House style Christmas dinner @ The Spaghetti House

Wanted to eat at Pizza Hut, but there were many people, so went to Spaghetti house.

Frankly I prefer Spaghetti House, they are good for their risotto’s.

I was surprised they had special dishes for Christmas, so I ordered items from their seasonal menu.
Most of the items on the list were truffle related.

Ordered the Risotto in squid ink sauce with lamb and the turkey lasagne with truffle sauce.

The risotto is always consistent, however the lasagne was slightly different to how I imagined it to be, I was expecting the turkey to be finely chopped or at least shredded, and the lasagne served in a dish rather than a plate.
However it was slices of pasta sheets, and huge turkey slices (a bit like roast dinners with meat slices) and topped with cranberry diced jelly.
The truffle sauce wasn’t that strong, and there wasn’t much cheese either.

[Review 482] 16/10/2009 Yummy Pancakes @ Spaghetti House 意粉屋

Spaghetti house is not my usual pick for pasta and pizza, because their branches and locations is a bit off radar.

Anyway, went to this one which is located right in front of a bus stop with long queues of people waiting for the bus, so you need to get past the people to enter the door.

I ordered the afternoon tea set, but couldn’t find the apple pie advertised prominently on their tea set menu cover, only available a la carte. I supposed it would be cheaper to just order the a la carte since I didn’t like the drinks.

Ordered the Squid ink rice with pork chops and apple, and the pancakes with peach and syrup.

The squid ink rice was very good, each grain of rice was distinct, and similar to the Japanese pearl rice, there was bits of fruit on top too, and melted processed cheese.

The pancakes were perfect too, haven’t had a decent pancake for along time, especially the Jif lemon ones, everything was the right sweetness too.

[Review 75] Lobster Dumplings @ The Spaghetti House 意粉屋

Date reviewed on openrice: 14/08/2007

This was my second time at Spaghetti house, since the last disgusting fake cheese fondue i had.

This time I came to try all the new stuff,
lobster dumplings, scallop asparagus soup and the tomato and lemon smoothie.

Lobster dumplings
A reasonable portion with 8 large dumplings in total, 4 ink pasta wrapped dumplings and 4 ordinary ones. Quite big in size, and the lobster inside was quite fresh, with spinach mixed in it. The sauce was very rich too.

Scallop and asparagus soup
Tasted nice, but the ingredients were "so so"
I didn't think the asparagus was fresh, because they weren't crunchy in texture and they had a slight sour taste to it.
As for the scallops, they were tiny, but some of them were peach and orange..which is weird..cos scallops are white... but the peach and orange wasn't the crescent shaped bits either. Worrying!!

Tomato n Lemon Smoothie..
I think its for ppl with acquired taste....anyway i liked it.

[Review 23] Cheese Fondue @ The Spaghetti House 意粉屋

Date reviewed on openrice: 17/02/2006

I came here to try their cheese fondue, however it wasn't really the authentic fondue. I could taste the cheese fondue had been formulated by cheese, milk which made it not authentic and watery.

The dipping accompaniment for the fondue were also strange especially the shiitake mushroom which is Asian...so frankly I find it quite strange dipping that mushroom in the cheese. Also the meats were raw too.

To summarize, this is fake Fondue served in a Chinese way, just because cheese fondue is similar to a Chinese hot pot it dosnt mean you out raw meats in it.
