[Review 7818] Omnipork luncheon @ 麥當勞 McDonald's

Rise and shine to a good morning with a milestone breakthrough for Green Monday and McDonalds Hong Kong!
We shall be seeing Omnipork luncheon (vegan spam) for breakfast and other toast treats at McCafe.
I was really lucky to get one that was rosy pink and not too burnt like other people have posted.
The taste of the omnipork luncheon was similar to luncheon meat but not as soft with a slight chew to it.
So it really depends if they fried it to perfection otherwise it is going to be hard and too salty.

[Review 7813] Honey BBQ Crispy Chicken Thighs @

Evidently the Crispy Thighs are successful but pricey in Hong Kong.

I have had the crispy thighs so many times since it was launched because the quality and taste is better than KFC.

This time I fell for the new Honey BBQ crispy thighs.

If you have tried their honey BBQ wings, the taste is exactly the same but in the form of a chicken drumstick and chicken thigh.

The crispy thigh version is much better because it is meatier compared to the wings so it is more moist compared to the wings.

Overall worth trying but I still prefer the original Crispy thighs because the coating is nicer than BBQ!

Tasty Fried Chicken at McDonalds

I love Fried chicken but it is really difficult to get fried chicken to my liking in Hong Kong.
There are countless options for fried chicken with the introduction of Korean Fried chicken a few years ago, but they are not to my liking because they are often coated with weird dressings and the quality of chicken is not good either.
The KFC in Hong Kong uses a different recipe to UK which is too crunchy as well as bad chicken inside.
Jollibee was good but now the coating has also been modified so that it is crunchy.

Anyway, McDonalds is now finally serving fried chicken just like McDonalds in Malaysia, Philippines and Singapore where chicken is wanted by popular demand.
I would love to try the McDonalds in the Phillipines because they have chicken gravy just like the KFC in UK.

In Hong Kong, the fried chicken a la carte at McDonalds varies from HKD31-HKD34.5 depending on location.
There are two pieces per portion and the chicken is decent in size compared to the anorexic chicken at KFC!!
Taking a bite, the coating was to my liking, not too crunchy or soft with a good thickness.
The chicken was succulent and moist which was extremely satisfying, however the only complaint was the spices .
I didn't expect it to be spicy

The chicken thigh oozed out some liquid which is most probably the frozen liquid that melted when it was fried.

Anyway, the chicken thigh turned out to be a surprise because it was convenient to eat in the sense that it only had one bone.

I would definitely eat it again but I am allergic to the spices in the coating so I won't be eating it that frequently.

McCafe's 20th Anniversary in Hong Kong

If it wasn't for this new tea series and rainbow cake I wouldn't have known that McCafe has been in Hong Kong for 20 years.
I remember going to a McCafe near North Point MTR station but not sure if that was the first branch.
Anyway,  I happened to be in Fortress Hill so went in for the new Tea!
Out of the drinks choice, I wasn't keen on the Four Seasons Tea because it was tasteless from the shops I have tried before, but still ordered it as it was the only tea choice available.
Spotted the rainbow cake so got that as well.
The bill came to HKD35.
Visually the cup was nice with rainbows on it and there was a decent amount of cheese froth on top.
The cake was topped with colourful candy pearls.
As each layer was a different colour,  I tried each layer to see if the colour made any different but it just tastes the same.
The cake was soft, fluffy and not too sweet.
Finished off with the Four Seasons tea which gave me a surprise because it had  a strong taste compared to the ones I have tried before.
On top of the cheese foam, there was some dried tea leaves which enhances the tea flavour when they get in your mouth and you end up chewing them.
The cheese foam texture was thick like double cream but I find it strange they call it cheese because it wasn't cheesy but sweetened.
Anyhow the thick creamy cap and the tea were a match made in heaven.
I felt quite content after having the cake and drink because I didn't feel thirsty or have any strange aftertaste in my mouth.
Definitely will be back to try the berries drink as strawberries and thick cream go so well together.

In general Okinawan sea salt icecream tastes good.
The ones I have tried are in tubs which are not as creamy as the softie version.
McDonald's are now serving it so decided to give it a try.

There are four to choose from, chocolate dipped, sea salt or sea salt with the original.
In my opinion, it didn't really need the chocolate as it tastes good on its own, and the lovely saltiness balances the sweetness and creaminess.

Will definitely get it again but without the chocolate.

After the successful Rabbit coconut mousse launched for Autumn Fest last year.
McCafe has a golden piggy for Chinese New Year 2019.
Unfortunately it is mango flavoured because Hong Kongers just love Mango.

The texture was soft because it was mango mousse, in the middle there was some mango sauce and cake in the middle but not much.
It was quite sweet with a strong artificial mango flavouring.

Not for me but I just tried it for fun but Hong Kongers should love it.

[Review 7114] Worst Quattro Burger @ 麥當勞 McDonald's

Shop 216, 2/F, Hollywood Plaza, 3 Lung Poon Street, Diamond Hill
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/worst-quattro-burger-e3272785

Since the Quattro Burger was launched, I have it whenever they serve it because it contains 4 slices of cheese.
2 white and 2 American Cheddar according to the menu.

The Quattro burger is served one day only or whenever they decide to!
It always comes with a soft drink which I never drink because I just don't drink soft drinks so paying HKD16 for the burger is ok.
Anyway, when it came, I noticed there was only two slices of cheese so looked underneath the patty and there wasn't anymore cheese so exchanged it.

Here was the second burger which was cold when I unwrapped it.
It was so cold that you can see the slices of cheese distinctly that evidently the beef patties were not even hot when it was assembled.

The taste was bad because the bun wasn't soft and the cheese just doesn't taste as good when it hasn't melted.

Chef Nic's McDonalds Creation

Earlier this year, Chef Nic (Nicholas Tse) came up with two burgers for McDs.
One was beef burger with bolognese and the other was the pork chop burger.

I didn't like the bolognese because it was too sweet.

The pork chop one fared better and it was a real pork chop coated in a light batter.
Tried it and didn't like it because of the sauce so ordered another one without the sauce and added McDs BBQ sauce which tasted so much better.
There was also SiuMei seasoning for the shake shake fries.
To honest, it was horrible, it tasted and smelt like burnt plastic!
Also tried the typhoon shelter seasoning which are on the fries below and that flavour was good.

Sweetcorn might be better in  that case!

Cheesy Blueberry Pie @ McDonalds Hong Kong
2018-12-12  96 瀏覽
Earlier this year, McDonalds launched the Mixed Berries Custard Pie for one day only on pi day 3.14 ie March the 14th.Now they have launched the Cheesy Blueberry pie!!!
The name doesn't sound quite right being cheesy because you wouldn't describe a cheesecake being cheesy.
Anyway decided to try it in the hopes of it tasting like custard because the version at Pakistan is actually blueberry custard!
The packaging was quite nice.
After taking a few bites,  it tasted how I had expected it to be, the blueberry side was sweet just like eating blueberry jam and the cheesy side tasted like custard.
So for people who do not like cheese, you can't taste any cheese and luckily it doesn't because I don't think it would taste nice.
I don't think McD would be that daft to make something taste weird.
Clearly the packaging and name doesn't quite match because the white on the illustration looks more like cream than cheese!
