Satisfying hotpot

Hot Pot land is near K Town.It is spacious with lovely oriental decor.

As well as hotpots, there is happy hour for drinks concocted with Chinese wines and you can even have shisha!

In terms of food, hot pot is obviously the star of the show but I liked the way they had salted egg items like calamari, tofu, potatoes etc.
Tried the salted egg sweetcorn which was quite sweet but sadly I didn't see the salted egg potatoes earlier or I would have had that.

For the hotpot, had the signature beauty broth which was evidently the best, as it was creamy and nourishing

To go with the hotpot had purple yam, tripe, vegetables etc.
The thing that made my day was the bottomless rice because if I don't have rice at hotpots I feel damn hungry.

For desserts, finished with Taiwanese herbal jelly and beancurd slush!

Since Hotpot land has other branches, will try the other branches.

When I first found out about this restaurant, it sounded really familiar but I didn't know why.

Heard about it late last year but soon forgot about it because the English name is just so random.

I was recently reminded of this place because a friend went and it turns out the location is where CASA used to be.

The menu had so much to offer so it was really difficult to choose.

Every dish we had turned out amazing so I was really pleased especially the ingredients they used.

Started with bread which was served hot.

For the appetizers had the salad, it was nice and hearty as there were sweet chestnuts which you won't find this time of the year and it makes the salad more memorable.
There were chunks of sweet Japanese pumpkin which were sweet and firm.
It was topped with delicious crispy kelp that were crushed into powder and made into these thin crackers which you eat with the salad.
Also had the red endive salad because hardly any restaurant serves this in Hong Kong.
The endive is similar to Chicory which has a bitter taste but the endive salad here was dressed with pomegranate, red cabbage and bottarga which gives it a lovely salty taste.

For mains had the black garlic gnocchi which is basically gnocchi mixed with black garlic.
The sauce which is also black is finely blended onion puree with squid ink and it had a lovely sweet taste owing to the onions.

Finished with the coconut sorbet which was another must for me.
Again it is so difficult to get rhubarb as no one eats this in HK.
I appreciate the generous chunks of rhubarb which were still crisp and intact because some rhubarbs can be rather mushy after being cooked.

Overall, I liked every dish that was ordered.
After I went home I googled this weird English name which almost looks like the secret language that kids speaks in English Schools.
It turns out that TF:vs:JS is a music band and they used to have a restaurant in Ngau Tau Kok which I didn't even know about.
Further googling show the food quality there was just as creative as the dishes I tried here.
So TF:vs:JS is here to stay!

Fantastic watermelon cakes

Lifetastic opened in 2016 and they are famous for watermelon cakes.
Thanks to the Taste of Hong Kong, Watermelon cakes are even more popular and there is more than one branch of Lifetastic.Although there are branches in CWB and TST, I decided to go to one in Shek Tong Tsui where it all started.

It is conveniently located outside HKU station.
As well as the watermelon cake, they have introduced others in the range such as Strawberry, Pandan etc.
In a way, I am glad I didn't try it until now as they have so much to offer including drinks.
Started with the Chocolate Tea which was amazing because there was a strong cocoa aroma, I always order this whenever I come across it.
I also had the French Chocolate Earl Grey which is another good pairing.
It was simply divine so I recommend it if you like chocolate and Earl Grey.
The watermelon cake is obviously the star here but we were here in the evening so had some wings and salad to satisfy our hunger.
The wings were not that Thai style as the menu described but it was still good.

The salad was light with lots of apples and raisins just like Waldorf but without the walnuts.

The slice of watermelon cake was much bigger than anticipated.

It was sweet and aromatic with floral notes of rose and crisp crunches of watermelon.
Now that I have tried the Watermelon cake, I plan to try the strawberry or pandan but they have different cakes at different branches or you can even find Lifetastic at the Tong Chong Street Market.

Quick stop on the Island

Found out about this joint after eating Malaysian delights at Café Malacca down the road.I heard some diners mention a restaurant nearby with  a similar name serving similar fare as well so decided to check it out.
This place is called Malacca Cuisine while the other place is called Cafe Malacca.
The menu is quite similar in the sense they have stingray and chicken rice.
Ordered the chicken so that I could get a comparison.

Luckily I got the chicken breast because it meant less bones!!!
The rice was quite hard and clumped together.
The best thing was the bak kut teh which makes it not so boring and you can have chicken and bak kut teh at the same time and they have two for you to choose which is good.
There is a choice of pepper or herbs.
Finished with the mandarin drink which was very aromatic!

Malaccan Christmas Dinner

As well as Turkey, you can celebrate Christmas by eating Chicken or Turkey in different ways!!!At Malacca, they have sets for two or four people with a choice of prawns or crab alongside their famous Hainan chicken.
As well as the set menu, the new menu is stylish and more informative than before.
Here was what we had:

Iced grass jelly.
This is the best grass jelly drink I have had as the syrup is served separately.

Pie Tee:
These were crispy bites filled with sweet and spicy vegetables.

Satay Skewers:
There was beef and chicken skewers, both were sweet accompanied with a nutty peanut dip.

Bak Kut Teh:
The bak kut teh was comforting because I love the taste of bitter herbs.

Next was the black pepper crab which was strong and the roti was a great thing to go with it because you can use the sauce for that.

For the mains, had the Hainan Chicken.
The chicken was silky and the I love the rice because it was infused with aromatic lemongrass.

Dragon vegetables:
These are a must try if you come here because they are imported from Malaysia.
They taste a bit like Indian lettuce and chives but are much more delicate.

For dessert, you get the coconut roll and durian dumpling but I was quite full so only had the dumpling.

Will be back again for more Malaccan delights.

Scammed

Went here randomly so I didn't read any comments on this place.Had the portobello, feta and spinach wrap.

It didn't look quite right when I got it.
It tasted ok but there was so much spinach leaves in proportion to mushroom and feta but this was not the main issue.
The biggest scam were the mushrooms, it clearly says portobello on the menu, ingredients and receipt but there were none in the wrap.
The mushrooms were crappy Asian Shitaake and Trumpet mushrooms to be precise.
Perhaps the wrap should be called Mixed mushroom wrap if you're not going to put any portobello mushrooms in it.
The overall taste was ok but quite grassy as there was more greens to anything.
