Came here around 11.30pm at night, and there was many people queuing to eat here despite being in the back streets of Wan Chai.

We registered for a table, and I was actually surprised it was in an orderly fashion, she noted well, who was next and arranged them to be seated.
Whereas in other places, they just allocate numbers and shout out the numbers in a cold manner.

Anyway, ordered snowflake ice and an apple crumble.

The snowflake ice is just the usual taste, however the hot apple crumble was quite good, the apple was diced and soaked in strawberry syrup.

If there was ice-cream or custard, it would have been perfect. Although it is not the traditional apple crumble, but it was interesting with strawberry syrup.

Ordered the sago with ice-cream and grass jelly, reasonable portion size and only cost $10.
Then got the snowflake ice with Italian grass jelly and mini glutinous dumplings that cost $13.
So for two reasonable desserts it cost $23 altogether!! Usually for $20 you can only get a basic dessert, the only thing is you can only eat at the stand tables or take away.

Dessert wise, the sago tasted ok, the snowflake one, I chose the Italian grass jelly to go with it so I could compare it to the one at chung’s dessert (po lam one).
Although I only chose two toppings to go with the snowflake ice, they gave other items with it such as red beans for free which I was not appreciative of, I hate red beans!! That is why I don’t go to the traditional dessert houses such as moon gay or Big 8. I would also given the normal grass jelly too, which was good, so I could taste the difference between their Italian one and the cube ones.
The snowflake ice only had three flavours tofu, chocolate and mango, the chocolate was a bit bitter.

Basically I felt, some of the desserts were copied from other places such as the Italian grass jelly with ginger sauce from chung’s in po lam, and the glutinous rice balls with maltesers also copied from cousins “bew jeah dessert”

New territories is a place I don't usually go, but stopped by here because Rainbow dessert house is famous in this area, the name sound fun, but the desserts wasn't that colourful as i imagined.

Most of the items were mango based, so my friends had the yeung ji gum lo, and mango pudding, whilst I had chocolate snowflake ice.

The chocolate snowflake tasted how it should, and so did the rest.

When I hear the name four brother, I immediately associate it with the Chinese actor Tse Yin, anyway it probably has a different meaning to them.

I thought I might as well try this place even though I have tried most the places for snowflake ice.

The décor is quite colourful, colourful take out bags, straws and calpis bottles.

As the place was quite vibrant, I decided to order the passionfruit flavoured snowflake ice, with Aiyu jelly and caramel sauce. The Aiya jelly was much firmer than the ones at Sweet pak fu.
The passionfruit base did not have any artificial taste to it either.

They have also put up pictures of Marsha Yuen at the place too, the last time I saw her, she had dessert at berrygood in central.

My second visit to China Town dessert.
This time I had the taro snowflake ice with hazelnut syrup topped with Valrhona chocolate balls.
It tasted as good as last time, however slightly different this time with the Valrhona chocolate, rich dark chocolate blending with faint taste of Taro.
The taro base is not as milky as the one at Sweet CC, this one is more icy.

Last time I came, they didn't have the combo, so this time i ordered the taro and coconut combo, it was quite pretty two colours together.

The staff and service was still as good as last time, I shall be back for more when I come to TST again.

[Review 308] Sweet china town @ 糖仁街 China Town Dessert

Initially intended to visit another dessert place nearby, but due to limited time, I came here.

Anyway, ordering snowflake ice, has now become similar to ordering car noodles, choosing your ice flavour, toppings, fruits, sauces etc.

I ordered the Taro flavour as my snowflake ice flavour, and chose 4 toppings: caramel pudding bits, angel jelly (which is just grass jelly), green tea pudding, and rainbow pearls, and had black sugar syrup as sauce.

The taro snowflake was white in colour, rather than purple, so probably it was flavoured by taro oil essence rather than the powder used in the Taiwan milk teas.
It didn’t taste very strong of taro, but there were slight hints of it. As for the toppings, the green tea cubes had a texture of milk pudding, the rainbow pearls just had the normal chewy texture with a hint of citrus in it, yellow with lemon, green with lime and orange with orange. The rainbow pearls were not on the ordering form, you need to enquire for it.

The grass jelly, was a bit bland, but I preferred it that way with my dessert, or the strong taste would over power the sweetness. The caramel pudding bits, was slightly different, they were like hard gelatin, and quite sweet, cut to tiny rectangles, clear brown for the caramel, and the custard colored bits for the pudding.

[Review 289] Iced peanut butter @ 甜品大少

10/05/2009 Mr Sweetheart 甜品大少
大坑銅鑼灣道144號新發大廈地下
G/F, Sun Fat Mansion, No.144 Tung Lo Wan Road, Tin Hau, Tai Hang

After trying their signature items previously, was not expecting myself to come back again so soon.

This time I came here to try its grated ice dessert, tried most of the flavours in various dessert place, this time tried the peanut one.
I wasnt quite sure how it would taste, ie if it would have crushed peanuts in it, but probably not, as it might break down the ice grater!!

The taste of the grated peanut flavoured ice was better than imagined, buttery and creamy just like peanut butter in frozen form, less salty than real peanut butter and velvety texture.
Had coco pops as a topping, which went quite well.

The other vanilla one was rather boring, but coming here, it made me try the chiuchow jelly as a topping, chewy cubes of flour.

I was quite impressed with the menu too, and the translation was correct too, such as coco pops, and chiu chow jelly.

[Review 276] Snowflake ice @ 甜品老媽 (筲箕灣) Dessert Loma

So happy, finally had a chance to try the snowflake ice, I actually gave up twice at the other place, but after discovering that the snowflake ice is exactly the same as the MK one, I was totally confident to try it here.

Basically, production wise, it would be the same, as the same machine is used to make it, and taste wise, they both order from the same manufacturer, and the add on ingredients were the same too by comparison, ie the pearls, liquid filled pearls, stars etc.

The snowflake ice base has 11 flavours to choose from, hence I chose the milk one to start off with, to get a feel for its textures and taste the toppings.

I chose hazelnut sauce, however I wasn't sure if it was on it or not, cos the whole dessert was plain white, not a sign of any sauce on it, I was expecting hazelnut to be brown? Anyway the other toppings I added were mango stars, white pearls, and chocolate filled pearls.

The snowflake ice tasted how I expected it to be, a icy texture slowly melting into cold milky liquid, then adding the toppings to it, added some chewy texture oozing with melted snowflake, due to the pearls.
Then eating the snowflake with the chocolate pearls, it was like bursts of chocolate sauce. As for the mango stars, they were rather soft and sweet.
But overall I enjoyed it thoroughly.
