Delicious Modern Indian delights

Discovered this place when I was visiting someone at HKU.
Hunger Strike was so good that I visited this joint twice because I wanted to try everything.
From the outside, you wouldn't think it was Indian but when you see the menu you will find items like kebab hotdogs and Indian burgers etc.
Everything I ordered tasted good as expected.
The taste of the kebabs were really familiar and the guy looked familiar but I couldn't work out where however on the second visit he was wearing a shirt with Tulsi which gave it away.
Tulsi is my one of my favourite curry places so it was no surprise I liked their stuff.
They use the same kebabs and koftas served in hamburgers, hotdogs and naans.
The lamb burger and kebab dogs were my favourites because it has that usual flavour.
The naan lamb burger was good because the naan is chewy and tastes better than a burger bun.
If you order the combo, it comes with some potato snacks which I didn't really like.
Perhaps I prefer fries or something fun like fruit raita or something different.
I definitely recommend the lamb hotdog, beef burger & veggie burger.
They are really flexible so if you don't like naan you can ask for the burger bun or whatever they have that you fancy.
Will definitely be back again.

Tried this restaurant last year when it didn't even have a proper name.
I am so glad they have made themselves officially a proper restaurant with a name!!!
The food is still the same which was good.

Ordered the spare rib rice vermicelli.
The ribs were a little different to the last visit because they were cut into pieces whereas it was a single rib on the last visit.
The broth was the same, it was strong and rich with a good hint of aniseed aroma.
The desserts here are also recommended.
This time tried the tub tim krob with grass jelly.
For HKD25 the portion was quite big and you get lots of water chestnut pieces and the dessert wasn't too sweet as a whole.
On the previously visit, tried the pandan jelly in coconut milk which is also good.

[Review 7531] Bad service @ 肥仔記麵家

Went here randomly and didn't really expect anything exciting as the Causeway Bay branch didn't impress.
The noodles are cheap but there is a hidden minimum spend per person which is not stated on the menu.
Anyway, in terms of food, the wontons had huge prawns in it but were not fresh.
The beef noodles tasted better but some pieces of the beef were dry and hard and you could tell how fresh they were by its dull dark brown colours.
The worst thing was the service, as we had finished, they wanted to seat a customer at our table so that they didn't have to clean or walk to the tables at the far end.
They literally framed the customer and said they wanted to sit there when the customer didn't say anything.

Went here randomly because of the funny name.
The menu will amuse you for a while if you study it properly.
Stuff like Alfred Steak, coka cola, spicy pork chop with coke sauce in Thai style are fascinating.
Under the baked rice section, I was delighted to see Bechamel Sauce used which makes me wonder if it was a wonderfully weird translation or they do use yummy bechamel cheese.
Condensed Milk Toast:
Singapore Fried Noodles in Malaysian Style {EXACTLY HOW IT IS on the MENU}
I was impressed with this dish because they offer reduced oil options when you order which makes it healthy.
Not only was it non oily, it wasn't overly salty so finally a Chinese dish that is relatively healthy compared to Pizza.
However the most unhealthy item was the rice vermicelli because you could taste it was quite sweet by default.
Drinks:
Snowy Mountain Fruit Punch:
Imagine canned fruit drink topped with cream!

[Review 7448] Best skewers in town @ Bingaz Street Food

I was drawn to Bingaz because of the colourful decor.
At first, I thought it was noodles but they do skewers as well.
Bingaz Street Food is by THE DEN so quality meats is assured as THE DEN does great steaks.
The Den recently won quite a few awards at HOFEX.
Inside, everything is colourful and there is a bar table so you can watch the guy grill the skewers.
Basically all my favourite colours, RED WHITE and BLUE!
The menu is simple, there are skewers, wings, noodles, Mini Teppanyaki and Fried items.
The skewers were affordable and all of them were tempting however I reduced my choice to tandoori chicken, satay chicken, beef with chimmichurri sauce and a Massaman chicken wing!
Vegetarians are not left out as they have the halloumi skewers too.
My favourite was definitely the Tandoori as the chicken had a hint of yoghurt and the texture was so tender like it had been slow cooked.
The chicken satay was juicy and springy.
Massaman chicken wing:
As well as chicken, the beef they use is always tender and moist topped with my favourite chimmichurri sauce.
The US Baby Back Rib is another must order as the meat literally comes off the bone drenched in delicious sweet and smoky BBQ sauce.
As I was still hungry, I had some noodles in chicken broth which was really comforting.
To summarize, all the skewers were delicious and healthy which beats cloyingly sweet Japanese skewers any day.

[Review 7350] Super Hidden Veg menu @ PizzaExpress

Super Hidden Veg menu
Last year, found out that Pizza Express were launching some vegetarian dishes so decided to give it a visit.
Normally I go Pizza Express in London where it all started, then tried it when it came to Hong Kong.
Not long, the menu was localized hence I never went back.
Anyway, after shopping at USelect went here for dinner.
Was browsing through the menu and couldn't find the vegetarian dishes.
Perhaps they had changed the menu again as the promotion was last year, just as I had made up my mind to order I found the damn menu booklet little hidden underneath the front of the back cover so had to decide again.
Couldn't find the planted based pizza because found out that is for the Singaporean PE.
Ordered the omnipork fusilli, you can personalize your pasta so changed it to spaghetti.
Funnily when it came, there wasn't any omnipork so they had to recook it.
According to the menu, this is what is in the dish:
Omnipork the plant-based pork alternative, flavoured with fennel and water chestnut. Served with garlic, chili flakes, button mushrooms and rocket
The taste was great with a spicy kick but couldn't quite taste the fennel and water chestnuts or see any of the button mushrooms.
The ravioli was good but a bit oily and too salty.
Avoiding the local pizzas, I felt the pastas were slightly better and the salad we had was great.
The avocados were ripe and the lemon dressing had a proper lemon tang to it unlike sweet lemon dressing at other restaurants.
For drinks, had the smoothie which is said to not contain any sugar but it tasted horribly sweet not the fault of the restaurant but the apple they used were naturally sugary and starchy.
Finished with the apple tortino which was really good and got 30% off it as friend was wearing orange.
The sweetness of that was normal and not as irritating as the juice.

Whenever you go past Hung Fook Tong, you will always smell those tea eggs so this time decided to get some.
They were actually braised in lingzhi which is healthy.
However it turned out not so healthy as they were rather salty.
The eggs are definitely hard boiled and probably have been in the wooden tub for days as the egg white is no longer white.
Anyway, definitely too salty and beats the purpose of being healthy.
