HKD50 for Roasted Spring Chicken
2019-10-14  221 瀏覽
Walked past one day and saw roast chicken in the cabinet. It was definitely an odd sight on the dark side of Kowloon because the crowd is mainly locals so who would buy it.
Anyway being curious went in and it was labelled HKD50!!!

Sadly I already had lunch so couldn't tuck in a whole spring chicken.
Went back another day and I was too early as they don't come out the oven until 3pm!
As well as the timing, it has been difficult to visit Prince Edward due to the current situation.

Finally went on another day at the right time when they had just come out from the oven.
Had I been half and hour later, the chicken would have got dehydrated in the oven so eating chicken is all about timing.

I was quite pleased with the chicken for hKd50.
The chicken was moist and springy while the golden chicken skin was delicious.

Dried Fruit drink

Went by randomly and tried this hot drink despite it was a bloody hot day.
I wouldn't call it tea as there isn't any tea in it.
The drink was just apple, cinnamon and kiwi which was an interesting combination which is why I tried it.
Overall, the taste was good and Thankfully the kiwi wasn't prominent because the apple and cinnamon go well together.
Might try other drinks if I am in the area next time.

Went past this tiny joint which was selling these cakes in gold boxes.
I thought it was Japanese but they were actually Taiwanese.
There is a schedule on the window so people can see when the cakes come out from the oven.
There are different flavours as well: pandan, chocolate and cheese from memory.
All I wanted was the pandan and they cost HKD60-75.
The pandan was quite nice and the texture was fluffy.
Quite nice as they were not too sweet.
I ended up eating more than I intended because it was quite addictive.

At first I thought it was just the usual dumpling joint but there was something special about the decor so decided to check it out.

The menu had dumplings and dessert so tried the mushroom and coriander dumplings and dessert.
The soup dumplings were in a crystal clear broth which was to my liking because it was not that oily with luscious green lettuce.
Taking a sip of the soup, there was this fragrant Sichuan pepper taste that was not too strong.
The dumplings were fresh and the coriander was not to overpowering.
There was some chili sauce given but they tasted good without the sauce.

Finished with the Hokkaido milk with gum tragacanth which was refreshingly cold yet not too sweet.
Gum tragacanth is just as nutritious as bird's nest without the expensive price tag.

Definitely coming back for dumplings and dessert.

Dumplings with a difference
2019-08-06  258 瀏覽
I was initially attracted by the seaweed pork dumplings and the coconut chicken broth that it comes in.
Went in and there were some new dumplings which were even better than seaweed so I didn't get the seaweed as I've already tried it elsewhere.
The new dumplings they had were the spicy pork and preserved vegetable [mui choi] with sweetcorn.
Decided to try both so the price is calculated by taking the higher price one  plus hkd2.
Tried the soup first and it was impressive with a strong coconut taste but marks off for the msg.

Pork, sweetcorn and salted cabbage:
It literally tasted like the salted cabbage pork patty (mui choi jing yuk beng) but I found it too sweet because of the sweetcorn.
Spicy pork dumplings:
The spicy one was my favourite because of the Sichuan spices.
Overall, I was satisfied because the pork was fresh and it didn't contain weird fat and chewy bits.
The coconut and chicken soup definitely made a difference to the usual pork broth.
According to the receipt, this used to be M Dumplings

Spotted this pho joint from far away because of its bright yellow decor.
I didn't have any expectations but I got more than I bargained for.
It was different from other pho joints as they had home made sauces.

It was really thoughtful they had a water dispenser because sometimes you just want water.

Started with the signature pho which had everything from beef, beef balls and Vietnamese sausages.
At first, it was just an ordinary bowl of pho with silky flat rice noodles.
After adding the Satay sauce, the taste was greatly enhanced and it just tasted moreish because the sauce had interesting notes of galangal and spices which is their secret.
Next were the chicken feet which were neither sweet or sour but they had a lovely fish sauce seasoning which makes them different and taste better.

Last but not least was the appetizer for four!
There was a good assortment of rolls, prawns, scallop spring rolls, salted egg fish skin and papaya salad.
Finished with the salted lemon and Vietnamese coffee.
Overall I would recommend this place for pho and don't forget sauce.

A while ago this drinks joint was doing online promotion for the KH store but it was too far so didn't quite make it.
Their drinks are instaworthy because fruit slices are put on the sides of the plastic cup to contrast the drink.
Anyway, stopped by for some snacks and a drink as it was pretty empty.
The only food they had was the cheese and ham toastie so had that.
Didn't have any expectations as it was just the usual processed cheese with ham pressed together in the toaster.

Ideally I should have got those fruit smoothies but I just felt like some simple tea that day.
It came in a big cup as well and had to be specially requested as I didn't want any sugar or cheese cap.
Might return if I am in the area.

Surprisingly good joint
2019-01-26  75 瀏覽
There are so many good noodles joints in Prince Edward.
I was captivated by this one because it was clean and affordable.
They have jars of pickled radish which must be tried.
They had a nice crunch but not tangy enough for my liking as they were a bit sweet.
As this place has congee, noodles and ricerolls I decided to try a bit of everything so ordered the plain ricerolls and plain noodles because most meat in Hong Kong is just................
The plain rice rolls were really good and all it needed was just some chili sauce and savoury soy sauce as opposed to sweet soy sauce which Hong Kongers just love.
The wonton noodles were also good as there was no alkaline taste.
The beef brisket wasn't as soft as anticipated so pork trotters are probably a better choice as they are recommended anyway.
The congee was damn good but had to wait for it to cool because when it was hot you couldn't really taste the salted egg.
As well as salted egg, it was loaded with preserved egg and vegetables.
