Perhaps I haven't been to La Rotisserie for ages as the roast potato there are cut into wedges and not like the other branches.
Had the pumpkin and goat cheese quiche as I love quiches but sadly they didn't have an oven to heat it up yet they have a rotisserie!
Anyway, there were generous chunks of pumpkin and the goat cheese was very pungent.
There was a dilemma choosing this quiche because La Boulangerie had a similar quiche but bigger and it was pumpkin and blue cheese.
The quiche was quite delicious but then their food is always good hence LR is everywhere!

Roast potatoes and French beans

Went here for my favourite roast potatoes and they had French beans that day so I got it as well.
The potatoes were ok that day but they had black pepper in it which I didn't like.

The French beans were good though, they were crisp with a sweet taste.

As well as rice, I was craving for potatoes so went here and got a tub for $28.

Roasted potatoes:
The potatoes were nicely cut, each one was bite sized and uniform.
As for the taste, they were a bit too salty and not soft enough

Every time I walk past this place, I am always captivated by that delicious smell of roast chicken.
This time I could not resist their roast potatoes.
☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Roast potatoes with beans and carrots:
As usual, the roast potatoes are perfectly roasted with a soft fluffy centre and a tasty potato skin.
The beans were slightly chewy and dry but the baby carrots were sweet with a hint of butter.

[Review 3646] Great sides too @ La Rotisserie

As well as their perfect roasted chicken freshly roasted in the Rotisserie, the side dishes are great as well.
Potatoes roasted in chicken oil are always there as a main choice and the other two varies from semolina, rice and cous cous.

Here are all my favourite side dishes.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Potatoes roasted in chicken oil:
Perfect roast potatoes with a chewy skin and a fluffy middle.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Rice:
The rice is surprisingly tasty as well with vegetable pieces in it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Semolina:
It doesn't look like semolina but it is labelled semolina.
Basically it had a rich tomato taste with chunks of tomato and onions mixed into it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
couscous:
The couscous had lovely olives and pearl onions in it which gaves it a nice Mediterranean flavour but it would be good if it was not that oily.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Prune tart:

For $45 this slice of plum tart was a bargain, there were so much plums in it which you can see in the cross section.

It was sweet with a delicious custard flavour with juicy stewed plums in every mouthful.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Goats cheese and tomato quiche:

The cheese was good but the tomatoes were not tart enough so the quiche was a bit too sweet.

[Review 2943] Back for quiche and pates @ La Rotisserie

Since my last visit, they now have some tables and chairs outside which is lovely for dining in the cool weather.

Came back for the quiche and pates.
They only sell pates at this branch and the one at Sai Ying Pun.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Zucchini and tomato quiche with mustard:

I havent tried the tomato and potato tart yet at Vanilla but the tart there has mustard too just like this one.
The quiche had my favourite yellow zucchini in it which had a lovely sweet taste and the French mustard and tomato slices gives it a tangy kick complemented by the delicious cheesy eggy filling.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Terrine de cerf:

The deer pate was really coarse and the texture and taste was like hard boiled liver.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Creme de foie de Volaille aux champignons:

The mushroom pate was much nicer and the texture was like dense foam with pieces of mushroom in it here and there.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
The jars of pate were really big and cheap, definately worth buying.

Just as much as I love Roast chicken! I discovered that OLD Chinese men love it too!
When I was at the Sai ying pun branch of La Rotisserie, an old man got his roast chicken.
At the new branch in Wan Chai, there was another old man getting roast Chicken.

The layout of the Wan Chai and Sai Ying Pun branch are pretty much the same, selling pates, candies but there is a bar table at the Wan Chai branch.

I went there during the first few days it opened because they were doing a lunch deal for $50.

It was so crowded on the first day that I gave up getting some chicken.

I sneaked out earlier on the second day before the crowd and got my chicken fast.

As well as that, I tried the croque poulet and forgot to take a photo of the actual thing.
The knife and fork they give you is decent and rigid so you can eat your chicken properly.
I went to this other roast chicken place and they gave me weak plastic cutlery which snapped half way through (GREAT!).

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Roast chicken and potatoes:

Delicious juicy chicken with rosemary herbs.
Tried the the thigh part and the white meat which were great and fully flavoured right through.
There was lots of chicken juice in the box too which tasted great with the potatoes.
The potatoes were soft on the inside with a delicious chewy skin.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Croque poulet:

The croque poulet is basically the same as the croque monsieur but it has chicken in it which is why it is called poulet.
It was a bit too buttery and the chicken sauce was a bit too creamy but the onions in it balanced it out nicely.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

On my next visit, I will get my favourite quiches and lemon tarts.

[Review 2672] Rhubarb tart to die for @ La Rotisserie

21/07/2013

https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/rhubarb-tart-to-die-for-e2309148

Had a craving for potatoes that day so La Rotisserie sprung in my mind and this other place for baked potatoes or curried potato salad.

As La Rotisserie was nearer to the MTR, I checked it out first.
The roast potatoes that day were a bit chunky and the quiches and tarts were really appealing because I have not tried their spinach quiche and the Rhubarb one I definately had to get because not places places do Rhubarb in Hong Kong.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Spinach and goats cheese quiche:
I avoid goats cheese because sometimes the taste can be really awful but decided to try it anyway.
The goats cheese here was pleasant and it had a sharp taste and a crumbly texture.
The quiche was loaded with delicious spinach and it was really delicious.
I wanted the tomato quiche too because I was craving for that eggy, cheesy filling but there were other things I wanted to try.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Lentils:

These were lentils and not many places cook it this way so I had to try it as well.
I thought they were vegetarian but it had bacon in it, so its not suitable for vegetarians unfortunately because it was delicious!
For $25, I got a HUGE pot of it which I could not finish!
Although I am not vegetarian or a bacon lover, it definately tasted amazing with the bacon because it added savourness and smokyness to the lentils.
As well as bacon, there were crispy diced onions, tomatoes, and herbs.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Rhubarb tart:

This tart was divine as well!
There were huge chunks of rhubarb generously placed in every square of the tart.
The combination of the custard egg filling and rhubarb was great and it was not too sweet.
It tastes better than rhubarb crumble too, but if there was one infront of me right now I would want to eat it as well.
I love rhubarb because it has a really sharp taste, it basically looks like a crimson coloured celery stalk but the leaves are poisonous.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Luckily there was a ledge on their shop window so I could eat it there!

[Review 2643] Roast chicken now at Sai Ying Pun @ La Rotisserie

La Rotisserie

G/F, 71 Third Street, Sai Ying Pun, Western District
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/roast-chicken-now-at-sai-ying-pun-e2307493

Thanks to La Rotisserie for inviting me to try their new shop in Sai Ying Pun.

I have always been a fan of their roast chicken and roast potatoes, and now their quiches as well tongue

The new joint is located on the Third Street in Sai Ying Pun with dizzying views of the Hong Kong sea and buildings beneath it.
It is conveniently located next to the new escalators where you can see the sea on the way up and strange old buildings too!!

The Sai Ying Pun area is interesting and somewhat surreal!!! I wonder where the new Chippy is located???

What makes La Rotisserie so special is that the chickens are roasted on a rotisseries which perfectly roasts the chicken as it is rotating and the chicken essense is collected on the tray below onto the potatoes giving deliciously crisp chicken flavoured roasted potatoes.

The chicken they source are corn fed, free range chickens.

Apart from Roast chicken they also sell some irresistable French mustards and candies from La Madeleine de Proust.

The pates were tempting because they were only $38 per jar but as I had somewhere to go afterwards I did'nt buy them otherwise I would have bought the chicken and mushroom and the deer pate.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Roast chicken:

The roast chicken was succulent, juicy and tender flavoured by their delicious herbs.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Mustard chicken (flavour of the month):
The new flavour was chicken covered in mustard.
I would have loved more mustard because I could'nt quite taste it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Quiche:

There were three quiches and the tomato and cheese was simple and my favourite.
One of the best quiches in Hong Kong because it is authentic.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Carrot and cumin soup:

I love anything with cumin so the carrot and cumin soup was delicious, and their soups are vegetarian which is good because for Vegetarians they can just get a quiche and soup to complete their meal.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Croque monsieur:

This is also my favourite which I did not try at the Sheung Wan branch!
Again another authentic one that does not taste sweet like the local ones.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Apple almond:

I was really lucky to try this as well because it was really delicious.
It was not too sweet and the filling was a bit like custard with pieces of apple in it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
It was really fascinating watching people from all walks of life there.
There were quite a lot of elderly people living in that area and I was so surprised to see a frail old man buy half a chicken from La Rotisserie because the locals I have met are not really adventurous with new foods and for a frail old man to fork out $100!!!!!

On leaving, it was so nice of them to give us a goodie bag filled with goodies:
There was a jar of mustard and candies from La Madeleine de Proust

La Madeleine de Proust candies:
PATIENCE sweet round biscuits:rose and peach.
CROQ’AMOURS bite-size crunchy clouds of meringue: raspberry and coffee.
DÉLICE À LA ROSE: heart-shaped biscuits: rose and almond
ÉTOILE À LA CANNELLE: spicy cinnamon, sweet almonds and Alsatian spices, these star-shaped biscuits come from Strasbourg’s famous Christmas market.
