Lex Coffee has been around for ages but I thought it was just coffee back then.
It was ones of the joints that stood out when I first came to Kennedy Town before the other restaurants started appearing.
Inside, it is spacious with ceiling and classy lights.
Near the entrance, it is like an art exhibition with so many pieces from different artists.
The menu was not just coffee!!!!!
My friend started with the LEX Benedict which had a fruity twist to it because the benedict sauce had a touch of mango that makes everything appetizing.

I had the salmon which was served with spinach potato mash.
It was really difficult to decide as they had seabass as well but it was served with pumpkin mash and salmon roe and I seriously love salmon roe.
In the end I chose the spinach mash because pumpkin is a little sweet for my liking.
Both the pairing looked colorfully contrasted and the silky mash complemented the flaky salmon nicely.

For dessert had the Waffle which was to my liking as I don't really eat waffles.

The best thing was the Cheesecake, I've been bored of cheesecake recently and this was silky and not heavy and I loved the the cherry that was embedded in the cheesecake.

Will certainly come back for the peach cheesecake which looks captivating.

$30 for a tub of tofu

Went past and discovered this dessert joint which aroused my interest because of the name Semi Sugar.
To be honest, it was just the typical Chinese dessert menu as well as souffle pancakes and waffles.
The tofu pudding looked photogenic and healthy so I ordered that.
You are given a timer because you have to wait for the tofu to set before you can eat it.
This was my ideal dessert because the sugar and syrup are separate so that you can control how sweet you want it.
The tofu pudding texture was quite silky but had a slightly curdled texture.
I also had the dark chocolate drink so that I could mix it in the pudding.

Made to order guacamole

11 Westside is a well hidden hip modern Mexican restaurant on the West side of Hong Kong in Kennedy Town!!
Hence the name Westside and not Westside Story which first came to mind.
Hidden in the restaurant is a secret bar where there is a special way of getting in there.
Started with a mocktail which was an appetizing drink before dinner.
Moving on to dinner, we began with the customizable guacamole which is made in front of you.
11 Westside is probably the first Mex restaurant that offers freshly made guacamole where you get to see the ingredients and how they make it.

What I liked is that you get to try it before they serve it so you can have more lemon/salt etc according to your taste preference.

The next thing I liked was the enchiladas which had a modern twist with pickles and crispy vegetables garnishing.
I love Tacos and there are so many to choose from.
My favourites were the Baja Fish and Veggie.
They reminded me of the Taco Truck days!!

On the veggie side, had the beetroot salad and the Echo Park Sweet Corn.
The horchata was light so I still had room for dessert.
Finished with the classic Ami’s Tres Leches Cake which was fantastic as I love cake and cream, although there is more than just cream as Tres Leches involves three different milks poured on top of the cake!

[Review 6793] Heavenly Lebanese fare @ Mama Malouf

Heavenly Lebanese fare

There are not many Lebanese restaurants around in Hong Kong.
Mama Malouf serves Middle Eastern food with playful modern twists.

After seeing pictures on social media, I knew the food was going to be good because it was similar to the Leb food in London and they also do hummus bowls while the pickles looked promising.

Started with the Mezze which are a must
MAMAS MEZZE - HUMUS, BABA, TARAMASALATA, PICKLES - 138
All my favourite dips with hot and soft flatbread.
The pickles were really refreshing and strong with a good salty and sour kick.

CHICKEN LIVERS WITH FETA MAYO & PICKLED CHILI - 78
This was chunky liver pieces on creamy feta mayo.

SMASHED EGGPLANT WITH LEBANESE SALSA & ZATAR MANOUSH - 98
I love anything with Zatar, the more the better and the flatbread was coated with a delicious layer that was aromatic.
The smashed eggplant accompanied it nicely.

SHISH TAWOUK WITH PEPPERS AND ONION, ALMOND RICE & TOUM - 178
This is another must order as the pieces of chicken were chunky and tender on a bed of fluffy rice.
Adding the dip to the rice and chicken makes it taste even better.

BAKED CARROTS WITH FETA MAYO & POMEGRANATE - 58
The carrots were too pretty to eat, almost as if they were freshly plucked from the soil.
Each one was roasted perfectly with a soft centre topped with delicious creamy mayo.

Finished with the COFFEE & CARDAMOM ICE CREAM SANDWICH - 68.
Although it was coffee, It reminded me of Indian masala chai.
The icecream and filo pasty tasted really good together and the delicate filo layers hung the ice cream nicely.

For drinks, had the harissa which tasted like bloody mary.
However, it would be good if you could choose the level of spiciness.

Overall, I loved everything so I will gladly come back if I am in the area.

Dry Hot Pot

I love 12 Flavours!
There is always something different at each restaurant.
At this restaurant, the decor gave you that Sichuan atmosphere with the red and grey theme.
On the menu, there are dry pots and chili fish.
Had the dry hot pot and I was so glad I chose the fresh beancurd skin, cauliflower and luncheon ham because these three items are the best.
The beancurd skin fresh and soft, while the fried luncheon meat was so tasty.

Also had the tofu but it was too spicy.

Finished with the Sichuan jelly which was soothing with a delicate osthmantus taste.

Satay broth

Went here because of the satay broth.
The prices were reasonable and I was impressed with the hardback cover menu and there was English and Chinese.
There were so many different combinations that it was hard to decide on what to eat.
I got the satay broth with noodles and octopus.
It was very tasty because the broth was not too sweet and it was not oily but slightly spicy.

The lemon tea is good and if you order the large size, it is good for two people to share.

I love fish so when I saw their poster for steamed fish I had to try it.
Most of their branches are grubby and old so I had to carefully choose which branch to dine at.
Steamed fish is not what they normally serve at this restaurant so the chefs would probably be annoyed at the not so routine task of steaming the fish, hence I was taking a risk at ordering this.
Interestingly they have ROTI as well.
Anyway I was in KTown and this branch was clean and there were not many customers so I went here.
To my horror, the place was clean but this little girl picked her nose and I was so shocked she swiped it on the table!
Anyway, my fish took a while to arrive but it was worth waiting for because it was simply delicious, the quality of the fish was fresh and chunky.
I needed an extra plate because there was too much oil when they steamed it so I took out the fish immediately.
Will definitely return for the fish because the taste was really good but $5x is quite expensive.

I don't know why I felt like having some sesame balls but I did. They are not filled with anything which is good.
Unfortunately, they were far too oily.
It was crispy on the outside with a decent fragrant sesame taste but the inside was too chewy to eat.
A good way to waste $9.
