[Bombay Kitchen] Astounding Indian Fare in Kowloon
2019-02-16  189 瀏覽
Spotted this Indian joint a few days ago and I wasn't sure whether to try it or not as I was worried it would be localized especially in Kowloon City.
On one side it was English and the other side was Chinese so I thought it was two restaurants.
I have always heard "mangmai" on the Chinese weather forecast but never knew that it was Bombay until now when I was told the Chinese name of this restaurant.
Anyway, decided to try it after browsing the menu as it had almost everything but they said the menu would be changed soon which is why I had to try it now!
They even had Bhurji and Momo on the menu!

Every dish we had was fantastic so I would definitely recommend this if you are in Kowloon City.

Started with the fried rice which I usually order because it always tastes better than Chinese Salty Oily fried rice.
Although they used Jasmine rice and not Basmati rice, it was still good.
To accompany the rice, had it with egg bhurji and lamb sagwala.
The egg bhurji was slightly drier than the one I had at Noble Spice but still tasty with lots of spices.
The sagwala was also as good as Chautauri but had a super fiery kick to it.
Also had some plain rice to go with the curry and my favourite jeera aloo.
I was so pleased with the Jeera Aloo potatoes as they were fluffy in the middle with a crispy exterior laced with herbs.
Definitely will be returning to try the Aloo Gobi and Butter Chicken!!

Bumped into an old friend who only had 30 mins to spare so went here.
We both had drinks and soups.
I had the buttermilk while my friend had the pomegranate juice.
Finally tried the buttermilk which is not as thick as lassi but has more flavour.
It was savoury infused with spices that are not hot so I really liked it.
For soups, had the vegetable soup and mutton bone soup.
The mutton bone soup was really good as it tasted like a light curry with mutton bones and a few chunks of mutton.
The veg soup was a bit boring compared to all this so I regretted not choosing the mulligatawny.
Anyway, will be back.

I love Indian food but not many places on the HK side offers vegetarian food.At Haveli they have my favourite Idi and Vada so I got the platter which has both of them and the dosa.
The Idi and Vada was as good as anticipated because I like starchy tastes.

My next favourite was the Tandoori mushrooms which had strong flavours and they used quality button mushrooms which were juicy.

For mains I had the paneer bhurji and lemon rice.
Both were satisfying because I just love bhurji.

As an Indian food lover, this has been on my list to try when I heard about it.They serve curry, rolls and a good variety of vegetarian and sugar free desserts.
There was a vegetarian roll I had to try and this is the only place that serves it.
To my knowledge not many places serve Bhurji and this one is completely vegetarian while the one in Central serves egg bhurji.
I had the paneer bhurji roll which is basically filled with cottage cheese  in aromatic spices and the texture is like scrambled eggs.

You will also find bits of red and green bell peppers as well.

I wish they had paneer bhurji rice because that would be more filling.
Anyway, my friend had the chicken biryani box.

For dessert I had the rice pudding which was really dreamy and I loved the texture as it was fluffy loaded with some nuts and dates.
I liked the way it was not cloyingly sweet as compared to other Indian desserts and it is sugar free sweetened with dates which makes it super healthy.

Most Indian buffets are under $100 and here is another one which includes lemon tea.
There is a good variety of vegetarian and meat curries, naans and samosas.
My favourite was the tandoori chicken which was tasty and tender.

The only thing is that you have to get there early as the restaurant is small and it fills up fast but they do refill the food.

This is my canteen for Indian food and it is conveniently right next to the MTR exit so I went on a rainy day.
As usual had saffron rice with the butter chicken.
The butter chicken is consistently good with a delicious sweet taste and brilliant with the saffron rice.
Also got the naan because their naans are damn good.
Finished with a mango lassi and lime soda.

My regular curry place

Haven't been here for a while but went again because I was recently reminded of this place by the Michelin guide.

Since I have tried almost 90% of the items on the menu, I went for something different.

Ordered a Happy meal for one and some extra stuff.

The Happy meal was quite big so I didn't quite finish everything.

The eggplant curry was like Mediterranean eggplant dip but with a curry flavouring, excellent with the naans and rice.

Last but not least are the aloo tikki potatoes patties which I have every time I come here.

Went here for some curry after going to the nearby mall.
They had set dinners but I got the a la carte instead.

I was glad I came here because there was a good choice on my menu.

Started with poppadoms with the usual sauces.
 0 讚好

For drinks, we had coconut water, salted lassi and nimbu pani.

Nimbu pani is basically like lime soda.
I would have ordered Jal Jeera as well but they said that this drink had an acquired taste but I am still curious anyway.

I had my usual aloo gobi and chicken tikka masala.

The chicken tikka masala was quite spicy but they gave you some yoghurt to tone it down and sooth the spiciness.

The Kashmiri rice was so good with the curry because the pieces of sweet fruit compliment the spiciness.
