Persistence and Passion

Wah Heung Chicken has been around for ages, according to the OR directory, WH Chicken has been at 18 different locations.
I vaguely remember it at Wanchai.

The fact that there were 18 locations before got me curious so I googled this restaurant and found out that the owner is really passionate about chicken that he worked at KFC to learn the tricks of the trade.

I believe Kwun Tong is now the best spot for it because the kitchen is nice and big to whip up the best dishes and the dining area can seat lots of people during lunch while the big tables would be good for big gatherings in the evenings and weekends.

Finally gave WHC a visit during lunch and I was happy for once that the food in KWUNTONG was not too salty.
I was really impressed they had water because I don't like Chinese drinks so water is always the best.

Overall you can feel the passion at the restaurant.
Every now and then they will have talks on how to be a better vegan.

They even have bowl festival for people to order.
I had trouble with the menu but the staff were really patient at explaining the dishes.
I ordered lunch with no regrets because I really wanted to try the rice vermicelli and turmeric rice.

For the chicken, they have three types: signature and the wine infused chicken.

Ordered one each with the rice and vermicelli.
For the signature chicken, you can choose three different sauces: spicy, spring onion and ginger, the sa cha sauce.

Before I talk about the chicken, the vermicelli was the best I have had in a while because it was not sweet by default and the soy sauce they used was a good one.
The rice was also as good as expected because I love carbs but perhaps the turmeric could have been stronger.

As for the chicken, both were good but I liked the wine infused one because it had the extra punch while the signature relies on the sauces.

Will definitely come back in the evening and try the bigger dishes.

[Review 7616] Pandan nuts bread at La Boheme Bakery @ La Boheme Bakery

A while ago spotted the pandan bread with nuts so decided to try it as I love Pandan. The pandan flavour was strong and not that artificial but the texture of the bread let it down.
The nuts were also annoying.
Also got the vanilla drink which was super sweet.

Some hits and misses

This restaurant has been around for a while, if I knew they served Dutch food I would have gone earlier.
It would have probably been better if I tried when they newly opened as there would be more Dutch dishes.

Unfortunately just like other restaurants, the dishes have been changed for the non adventurous people in Hong Kong.

Sat on the corner so it was very cramped and we ordered quite  a bit of food so the table wasn't quite big enough.

I don't normally order Mussels unless they are fresh.
The board claims they were fresh so ordered them and being Mother's Day, I would expect the mussels to be fresh as lots of people were ordering it that night.
The mussels were not as fresh as I expected and some of the mussels were a bit mushy.

According to the waitress they said the mussels would be cooked with white wine which somehow I couldn't taste it.
The rest of the fries and salad were good.
The fries were the best because they were soft and silky.
Although the fries were amazing, they were not consistent as the colour was different to the ones on the other peoples table.
Ours were darker while the other table was blonde.
Also had the white asparagus as they were in season.
Sadly I dropped one on the floor as the table was really cramped but otherwise they taste quite nice without the grassiness.
The dill on the side complemented it very well.

On the way to the loo, found some a pair of black socks just outside the male and females toilets when I opened the door.
Anyway didn't get a picture as I don't usually take my phone to the loo and the hallway was rather slippery so I didn't bother to go back.
We wanted try the pofferjies but ended getting the Dutch Pancake instead because they didn't have it.
When we finished, the tea made my day as there were lots of choices.

[Review 7441] Shaz Confections at K11 @ Shaz Confections

Previously tried Shaz in Saiyingpun and now they have a second branch at K11!!!
The menu is much the same.
Since, I have already tried the crepe cakes I went for tea.

The Earl grey was very aromatic and the good thing is that they use loose leaf which gives it a lovely flavour.
Although I only had tea, the staff were really nice and kept refilling the tea with hot water.

Pret on Gloucester Road :)

On the way back to the MTR station from HKCEC , spotted PAM on Gloucester Road next to Pacific and Starbucks.
It makes that stretch of road look quite nice now with all the nice coffee shops and healthy eateries.
I loved the new scene over looking the Gloucester Road traffic.
Anyway got the sparkling water and Matcha Latte.

The Matcha Latte is Matcha green tea blended with steamed milk and served in a 12oz cup.
It tasted like tea in a light form, slightly grassy.
I had it without sweeteners so it was palatable.

Finished with sparkling water as I was still thirsty as well.

Limited options

Tried to dine here during the afternoon but all they offered was afternoon tea sets and I am not keen on sweet stuff.
Went back in the evening and it was slightly better but the things we wanted to order was either unavailable or sold out.

The fat crab was passable.

The artichoke fettuccine which had lemon, artichoke, mascarpone and parmesan according to the menu was terrible.
It smelt like lemon cheesecake and the taste was just weird.
The only normal tasting thing was the artichokes~

The detox juice which looked normal when it arrived began separating itself after a few minutes~!

The apricot tea was just bland!

[Review 7311] Sunday roast @ The Phoenix Bar & Kitchen

The Phoenix located at the mid levels is evidently successful as they have been here since 2000.It is always busy when I go past it but this Sunday I seized the opportunity for dinner as it wasn't that busy.
There were so many good options to choose from like dishes launched for St Patrick's Day and they even had bubble and squeak.

Sunday Roast is almost disappearing from the Hong Kong scene so I ordered that.
Delaney's in Wanchai used to serve it but they have closed down a few years ago.
It was roast pork loin that day with cider gravy.
The pork was a bit dry but the other stuff made up for it especially the cauliflower cheese which was so comforting.
It tasted like the stuff we got at school in this creamy cheesy sauce that complimented the dry pork loin nicely.
The pork crackling was way too hard.
For drinks, had tea and the zero alcohol lager by Carlsberg.
Not that I'm complaining but the Sunday Roast was only HKD158 on the bill so maybe it was a late night discount??
