Marks and Spencers Apple Turnover

Marks and Spencers has the best sweet treats so went there to get my cream cravings.
Got the Bramley apple turnover which contain delicious freshly whipped cream.
The apple turnovers have to be eaten asap before the pasty gets soggy. I love that lovely balance of tart crisp apple cubes and cream encased in the light puff pastry dusted with powdered sugar.
I am not sure if they have changed the recipe because the one I tried in December 2018 had sugar on top but the one here clearly had caster sugar (powdered sugar) which is delicate and gives it some subtle sweetness.

Ruby Chocolate suspicions confirmed

At the beginning of the year, had the best pink chocolate drink from here.Decided to revisit for some more pink hot chocolate.

It was a different person there that day so asked if it was ruby chocolate that was used and it was.
Ruby chocolate is the fourth chocolate following white, milk and dark introduced in 2017 by Barry Callebaut.

The hot ruby chocolate drink is made by melting the ruby chocolate pellets and mixing with milk.

It was my lucky day as I got to try the melted Ruby callets which were sugary sweet with a note of raspberry.

The actual ruby hot chocolate drink is sweet and dreamy almost like drinking raspberry hot chocolate so I definitely recommend it.

Great Taiwanese dessert place in TST

I have been craving for some good Taiwanese desserts lately and this is definitely the place for it.

On the menu, there are so many desserts to choose from.
There were taro balls, pudding and sweet mash!

As it was a hot day, chose the brown sugar slush where you can choose five different toppings.
For the toppings, chose taro balls, herbal jelly, taro mash, sweet potato mash and brown sugar jelly.

The jelly was glistening and everything looked good.

Taro mash and sweet potato mash.

Although the slush was coarse, it was all good as it melted nicely in the mouth.
The sweet mash was not too sweet so everything was in harmony.
There was a separate shot of syrup if you wanted it sweeter but I didn't need it.
As for the other dessert, had the signature which was similar but without the ice served with red beans and pearls.

The reason why I like this dessert joint is because of the herbal jelly.
It is made in house so it tastes so much better and the mash is natrual without any colourings.

Walked past and saw these plump looking eggtarts so took a closer look.

It turned out to be pineapple and lemon tarts according to the label.

They were dusted with coconut on the edges which made it look worthy so decided to get one.

Unfortunately, they were not tarts at all but were weird pastries filled with bright yellow cake in the middle topped with lemon glaze and a piece of pinepple.
Definitely not tasty!
Yuck, yuck, yuck!

I was delighted to see Hana Musubi at the Star Ferry pier.
Definitely convenient and quick to satisfy your hunger when travelling on the ferry.
As I was at the hkcec all day I got three.
The plum was excellent as the plum in the middle is acidic and salty which goes with the rice.
The other two were filling with some chew because of the grains.
I felt that the one with seaweed wrap was easier to eat especially if you are standing up as the mixed grains doesn't hold together well.

There are so many new restaurants at XIQU centre.
Peony Garden is on the ground floor and offers a wide variety on the menu from simple Hong Kong style comforts to the instaworthy green coriander broth cart noodles.

The decor is just the style for the XIQU centre and they also specialize in Chiuchow dishes.

They preserve their own lemons which are used in the duck soup.

For drinks, had the Soda with Dried Preserved Plum & Tangerine Peel and Lime Soda.

Next were the soups which I was really looking forward to.
Clearly the one with preserved lemon was my favourite because of the saltiness of the lemon but there are some brittle bones in the soup so you have to be careful.

Premium Braised Sliced Goose Fillet Combo with Braised Goose Liver
For the combo, the liver was silky with a slight velvety firmness so it didn't feel so heavy.
The goose was quite lean but unfortunately you don't get any beancurd sheets in this combo.
Boiled Garoupa Fillet in Hot & Chilli Oil:
They also serve fish in chili oil which is another recommended dish.
At the bottom, there are lots of chewy noodles that are tasty as it has absorbed the chili oil.
Clay Pot Rice w/ Japanese Pumpkin & Pork Ribs
For mains, had the clay pot rice where they have specifically selected Japanese pumpkins for that extra sweetness.

Taro Blocks:
Finished with the taro blocks which are coated in a flakey sugar coating.

Will be back to try their other Hong Kong style treats.

Indeed this place is just a restaurant!

I was captivated by one of the items on the menu called TRANSLATE ERROR because I thought it was amusing.

This dish was pasta with black coloured sweet and sour pork according to the staff.
I actually liked it because it tasted like the signature crispy vinegar chicken at Ootoya Japanese Restaurant.

My friend had the Wagyu but it wasn't what we expected.
We thought it was steak but you had to grill it yourself!
It also comes with sesame chicken wings.

Overall quite a cozy place for dinner and the pasta dish is highly recommended.
