Went here randomly so decided to try the skewers.
Ordered the chicken and I was tempted to order the tenderloin as well but apparently it isn't according to the Chinese verbal description so I stuck with the chicken.
They told me to order the striploin if I wanted better beef but I wasn't after striploin but tenderloin.
The chicken was tender thigh meat with an interesting vinegar taste.
It was not off but tasted like the Phillipine adobo which is cooked with vinegar.
Obviously I believe they were not meant to make it sour as Chinese people do not like sour foods so I asked if they put vinegar and they said it was OIL.
HMMM INTERESTING ANSWER.
I love my food conversations in Hong Kong, I really get some interesting answers.

Dinky but delicious patisserie joint

At first I thought it was opened by a friend who lives in SK but it wasn't.
It seemed worth trying as all my non SK foodie friends have bookmarked it.
There were only two seats so I went on a rainy day when there were less people.
It was fate that I had the strawberry mille feuille because had the earl grey roll or strawberry roll been available I would have had trouble deciding.
I have never had a decent mille feuille in Hong Kong but this is the best I have ever had because the pastry is light and literally melts in your mouth.
The one in TH is no match for this at all.
The filling was fluffy and not too sweet complimented by the juicy slices of strawberry.
As well as the filling, the cream on top was real fluffy cream so every part of it was delicious.

Delectable icecreams

Obviously this place specializes in ice-creams but they keep changing the flavours so you have to try your luck and see if there is one for you on on your visit.Wanted to try the pandan one a while ago but it was difficult finding a time to go to SK because it is a waste of time as you can't get out.
Finally went on a rainy day and tried the Coconut sugar vanilla icecream with cocao nibs topped with pistachio crumbs.
I chose this because it had cocao nibs.
I loved the icecream as it wasn't too sweet and the cocao nibs really made a difference because I just love the crispiness and the flavours that come out from it.
The pistachio wasn't really necessary but I added it anyway.

This used to be GC, then a bakery supplies joint and now this.
Saw the Portuguese egg tarts so decided to give it a try.
They looked good but not to my liking as the filling was too eggy, runny  and too sweet.
The pastry was weak and floppy that it relied heavily on the tin case.
The donut was weird, clearly a Chinese style donut, it was yellow inside.
The sugar and cinnamon was ok but it just had the same texture as all the Chinese bakeries, not fluffy or risen.

Unfortunately I didn't know there was a branch in Prince Edward so went to this branch.
On the veggie menu they had deep fried bittermelon and okra in three styles: plum seasoning, salt and pepper and salted egg yolk.
Plum seasoning is definitely a no no for me as it tastes sweet so I got the salt and pepper.
The batter was thin and crispy while the salt and pepper wasn't too strong.
As expected the bittermelon was crunchy and slightly undercooked.

Scotch Egg

Mushroom Bakery is one of the bakeries in SK that does the scotch egg.
They used to be on YI Chun Street but have moved to the main road or round the corner.

Went there and got the scotch egg, rye bun and the donut.
Didn't like the donut as the oil was a bit rancid and the sugar they used wasn't that pleasant.
The rye bread was ok but the packaging was misleading as on the shelf it just says HKD6 and some are packed in 2s and 3s and it turns out that they cost HKD6 each so when you pay for it they will cut the bag, put the other one in another bag and reseal it.
The scotch egg must have been there for days if the egg white has gone yellow.
The egg white wasn't tender or silky either.
Overall not as good as before.

Passion by Gerard Dubois at HKUST!!!

While other unis have canteen food, this one has Passion.
Clearly it is popular with those damn hikers who hike to shitkung.
It is a nightmare going to shitkung and transport is crap so on the weekends you have to get the feck out and eat elsewhere.
Tried Passion to see how it compares to Wanchai.
The portions were nice and small but better quality than the other food around in the New Territories.
I liked the risotto which was creative with beetroot and cauliflower.
Obviously the salmon pizza is just salmon slices on top of pizza targeted for locals as there is less cheese so the locals think they are eating a pizza!
Frankly melted cheese and smoked salmon is WEIRD just like the unauthentic fake cheese fondues they serve with raw seafood at other restaurants!

Back for the Classic hotdog

Went here a while ago when they newly opened but the hotdog I had was a bit overloaded so went back recently to try the plain dog which was just the sausage, onions and tomatoes and the sauce is added by yourself.
To be honest, it was really good as I like it simple with ketchup and mustard and inexpensive in SK town.
Grilled dogs are the usual practice but personally I like boiled dogs as the skin isn't so tough to bite on.
It would be great if they served tea as well as the drinks options are a bit limited.

Possibly the first Nitro Brew in SK

I'd rather dine anywhere but SK but since I was nearby decided to check this place out.
To my surprise they had nitro brew which is trending so I decided to order one to compare with the one I had at CWB.
The tea base was different so I couldn't compare like with like.
There are other coffee shops in SK that may also have Nitro Brew but as I haven't visited I don't know!!!
My pineapple oolong Nitro brew was quite nice, I loved the foam cap.
It was smooth and not too sweet which was good so I might come back to try other stuff.
As well as HK, there is another bem bom cafe elsewhere in the world.

A real taste for seafood

There are too many seafood restaurants in Sai Kung so it is hard to run into a good one.So far I have tried a few which are reasonable.
Anyway, dined here because someones friend liked this place.
 0 讚好

The menu had the usual suspects and they even had salt and pepper abalone which is served at Sing Kee and Loaf On!!
To start off with had the salty chicken feet which I have not had in ages, the last time I had it was in SK but at a different restaurant.
I tried it without the sauce and it was already good because you could taste the salt and spices which had penetrated the soft and gelatinous skin.
The chicken feet were slightly warm which made them even more enjoyable.

Next were the prawns where I could already smell the soy sauce aroma without knowing they were prawns in soy sauce which meant it was successful dish as you could identify it immediately by smell.
 0 讚好

Again another classic dish in Sai Kung is the clams in salt water,.
It was oil free and clear.
 0 讚好

I tried the broth as well which you are not meant to drink like soup but again they were fresh clams so I could taste sweet strong clams as well as spring onions.
My other favourite was the PLAIN steamed surf ark clams, they were steamed without any oil or garlic which was appreciated so you could taste the pure sweet clam taste.
As I always say, fresh seafood does not need any seasoning while other restaurants ruin it by over seasoning it and adding smelly oil on top to make it look appetizing.

The rest of the food we had!

Can't wait until the next gathering!

Went here for dessert.
I thought it was a new shop because the staff didn't seem to have experience but it seems that this shop has been around since Aug.
Anyway, sat down, wasn't given a menu nor did they tell me the menu was on the wall until I asked.
Settled for the dessert which was bland but at least it wasn't too sweet.
The Taiwanese taro, Sweet potato mochi was rather chewy and I couldn't taste any taro or sweet potato.
The spoon was not a dessert spoon but at least it was nice and big!!

Was captivated by the flyer showing this delish Chinese beef pie.
There are a few different pies to choose from.
I chose the beef and onion as it sounded similar to the English beef and onion pie and I thought it would be interesting to see if there are any differences.
When it came, it was flakey and round like a hamburger slit open in the middle and filled with beef and onions.
The pastry was spot on as it was baked just right and not oily.
However, the beef which I assume is beef according to the menu turned out mostly chewy tendons and elastic translucent bits.
I didn't really finish it off because every mouthful turned out to be that stuff.
