[Review 47] Interesting Restaurant @ 富城茶餐廳 Richmond Restaurant

Date reviewed on openrice: 10/01/2006

For early dinner, we decided to dine in this restaurant, so we ordered Singaporean style vermicelli, less oil and less spicy, and a baked salt chicken rice.

The chicken rice was quite good and salty as stated. It was tender and decent parts of chicken were given, rather than odd bit with lots of skin and fat.

The vermicelli, however was a bit disappointing, because we requested it to be less spicy, in fact they made it hotter than preferred.

The drinks were average, and my glass was a little dirty.

The staff there a little crazy too, but its okay and entertaining!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[Review 46] Nice furnishings @ Pancake Colours Cafe & Bar

Date reviewed on openrice: 28/08/2006

First of all, I would have to give it a thumbs up for its furnishings and interior design.
You can tell that the owner has taken thought into the restaurants appearance.

The seating available is quite modern, you would think that you were in a modern furniture store.

However there are things that could be improved on, such as stating the minimum charges per head.

As for the food, they did seem to have a wide choice of side dishes. I ordered Octopus chips, crab in tofu wrap, honey and black pepper chicken wings and a cheese and ham ciabatta.

The octopus chips were ok, crab in tofu wrap were ok, however the chicken wings in honey n black pepper were ok, it did taste nice, however the honey was in fact syrup.
As for the the ciabatta, it tasted nice, but was totally different from the name, firstly there was no cheese, instead there was plenty of salad cream in it. Finally i don't think it should be called a ciabatta, because it wasn't even ciabatta, it was a french stick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At the end, I ordered a cold Macadamia chocolate drink, I was slightly disappointed, since the presentation looked like a glass of chocolate milk. Basically it was only half filled, because half of the glass was occupied with ice.

I was disappointed because I was expecting something like the picture, such as whipped cream on the top, and sprinkled with Macadamia nuts. The taste only had a slight nutty taste.
Although illustrated on their menu was the caramel chocolate drink, but I had the expectation that all drinks on that range were made in that way, ie with cream on the top etc.

Anyway I have decided to give it an OK, since the food was OK............

[Review 45] New York cheesecake donut @ Krispy Kreme

Date reviewed on openrice: 25/08/2006

It took a while to find this place, but I eventually found it, which turns out to be located in a convenient area.
I was greeted with a long queue, flowing from the entrance, but I still queued.
I finally got to the counter, and a wide selection of donuts were displayed in the glass cabinet. I was given an original to try, which tasted quite sweet, but a little oily.
I ended buying chocolate with custard, caramel crunch, and new york cheesecake. All went nicely with tea. I personally think the price of the donut is reasonable, but the drinks are slightly overpriced, but I think most people will buy a drink due to the sweetness.
I recommend the NY cheesecake for the Chinese if they do not like over sweet foods. In general American style is this sweet, so we just have to accept it!!!
Same with the Chinese culture, they like to put a lot of sugar, oil in their cooking too!!!!!

[Review 44] Smelly buttered wings @ 燕萍越南餐廳 Ying Ping Vietnamese Restaurant

Date reviewed on openrice: 16/08/2006

My friends suggested to go to this restaurant, as it is said to be famous for its Buttered wings.

So we ordered some, but I didn't think they were as nice as described.
Firstly they stunk of oil, as if it hadn't been changed. It was also too greasy. Apart from the batter it was tasteless.

We also ordered the vegetable wrapped in rice paper, that was too chewy, we couldn't bite the wrap in half!

For my main course I had beef tendon in marinade sauce, the tendons were ok soft, and the sauce was ok too.

[Review 43] Very delicious @ 老趙越南餐廳 (大頭蝦專門店) Lo Chiu Vietnamese Restaurant

Date reviewed on openrice: 16/08/2006

This is my first time eating vietnamese food.
I must say this restaurant gave me a good impression.

I ordered the mixed starter, and basically it was presented nicely and neatly and a plate, every item on that plate was delicious.

For the main dish I ordered a the Big prawn with Har go fried rice. The prawn was as big as stated however the rice wasnt very outstanding.

Overall it was ok.

[Review 37] Bad service @ 百好素食

Date reviewed on openrice: 百好素食 23/04/2006

I noticed this vegetarian restaurant cos one of the waitresses was shouting aloud about their vegetarian sushi.

So I went over to have a look, okay I must admit there is a wide variety: sashimi sushi, long leg crab sushi, eel sushi, tuna sushi, abalone sushi, etc.

I just didn't like the fact that the waitress' attitude was so aggressive at selling, ie the ppl who were there were deciding whether to buy, and she already put them into the bags, so like the customers were like obliged to buy it.

I also didn't like the fact that she made it sound like it was such an offer, ie it usually isn't that cheap ie 3 pieces of sushi for 10 dollars. Anyway i am a regular veg eater at this other restaurant in Lai Chi Kok, and the sushi there is even cheaper at 4 pieces for 10 dollars.

When it was my turn to order, she told me to hurry up with my choice of sushi.

Apart from this, the sushi is ok, the food texture of the salmon sushi is very similar to the real thing.

[Review 36] Generous liver pate and french bread @ Cambo Cafeteria 金寶

Date reviewed on openrice: 16/04/2006

Another one of my fav eat outs. On my first visit i ordered a goose liver pate baguette, and they put a lovely big chunk inside.

Second time i tried Vietnamese sausage wiv pickled veg baguette, that was also nice too.

Third time i ate their chicken hainan style. Really nice rice and chicken, inc soup.

You can sit in this restaurant for a long time too, and they supply magazines too.

[Review 42] Yummy kebabs @ Ebeneezer's Kebabs & Pizzeria

Date reviewed on openrice: 16/08/2006

I ordered a chicken kebab, and prawn byrini.

The kebab was nicely done up and cut in half, not to difficult to eat without getting my hands all sauced up.
The sauces in the kebab were a nice mixture and plentiful. The salad that came was the food was also drenched in salad sauce.

The price and environment was reasonable.

[Review 41] Lucky I did not to go the Yuen Long branch @ 表姐手勢新派甜品 BJ Fusion Dessert

Date reviewed on openrice: 10/08/2006

I was so pleased they opened a branch in TKO, cos Yuen Long is too far.
So I went in and tried the malteser glutinous rice dumpling, chicken feet and fried XO cheung fun.
However they didn't taste as good as I expected, nothing spectacular about it.
Luckily i did not especially go to Yuen long to try it out.!!

[Review 39] Banana and chocolate lor maai chee @ 街知巷聞 Chinesegogo

Date reviewed on openrice: 26/07/2006

Very delicious soft things!!

This is a very delicious snack, since it was filled with modern ingredients, especially the chocolate and banana one.

I was expecting artificial banana, however it turned out to be fresh banana, So it tasted very nice with the creamy chocolate inside.

As well as this flavour, there are others such as Tofu, Strawberry, Custard, chocolate is also nice too.

The chocolate one consists of creamy choc filling and a piece of button chocolate.

[Review 38] Pandan Cake @ 有星味 Pasar Laksa

Date reviewed on openrice: 30/04/2006

I came to this restaurant especially to try the Pandan cake, since this is the only place I know of that serves it.

When it came, it was cold, because it was served straight from the fridge. It wasn't as dry as like the others mentioned. However it is not very spongy like the ones i have tried before. If it could be less sweet, it would taste better too.

I also tried the prawn croquettes, which were rather ordinary.

I also visited their toilet and was surprised by the fact that this was used as a storage placed for some of their cooking materials.

[Review 35] Relaxing afternoon tea set @ Kumamoto 大熊本洋風料理

date reviewed on openrice: 16/04/2006

I was drawn to this restaurant bcos it had displayed the dishes they served for tea. The scrambled eggs and salmon was not bad for 22 dollars + 10% svc charge. The presentation was 1st class when served and looked the same as the display too. The chips that came with it were also perfect, not too over or under cooked.

The good thing about this restaurant is that u can sit for along time and the atmosphere isn't very noisy.
Personally for the price the tea set is more favorable. They also refill ur tea if they r not busy.

I have also tried the evening menu, which is the A la Carte.
The things i find ok..
Fish patty with peas. ( ok la)
Salmon head (quite nice)
Tofu veg cake (very nice)
Dumplings (quite nice)

[Review 34] Nice but expensive Tako balls @ 築地 GINDACO

Date reviewed on openrice: 16/04/2006

These tako balls are very delicious and piping hot, especially in the hot days of summer.

They are freshly made to order, and tastes really nice.
The outer crust is crunchy and covered with teriyaki sauce, cuttlefish shavings, seaweed powder and japanese mayonnaise.

The inside is piping hot, each ball containing a big pieces of octopus, herbs and puffed rice (fried rice). The sauce on top of the balls blends well with the balls, especially the teriyaki sauce, which is not too sweet.

[Review 33] Italian style grass jelly @ 聰嫂私房甜品 Cong Sao Star Dessert

Date reviewed on openrice: 14/04/2006

Usually grass jelly (leung fun) is cut into small cubes and served with syrup, however this dessert called Italian grass jelly is rather different.

The grass jelly is served in ginger sauce. The ginger sauce is made of condensed/evaporated milk with ginger. The grass jelly looks like spaghetti hence the name Italian grass jelly.

Overall it tasted quite nice..not too sweet and blended nicely with the gingery taste.

I ordered a plate of fish and chips, all very British with mushy peas and tarter sauce etc, however the chip were more like potato wedges, apart from that it tasted alright,

Date reviewed on openrice: 09/04/2006

Furnishing:
Great, very modern and futuristic, even the cutlery and water glass is quite cool!

Food:
Interesting rainbow curry.
Basically the sauce does not have any taste of curry, however the meat sauce on top of the rice is curry flavoured. The rice used is Japanese pearl rice.
Black = sesame & squid
Green = spinach
Purple= taro
Red = tomato
Cant remember the rest!!

[Review 30] Spooky Toilet @ Snow 夏雪

Date reviewed on openrice: 09/04/2006

I gave this restaurant a try cos it looked nice and there are always people queuing for it.
The menu range was quite interesting..and i ordered the black widow fried rice, which tasted and looked very nice. It contained black fish roe, and shreds of crab.

The lobster with cheese was a total disappointment, because it didn't have any lobster at all, it was only lobster shell and cheese.

Finally there wouldn't be anyone fighting for the toilet, because it is totally black, especially the walls.

[Review 29] Black Udon @ 遊食手打烏冬

Date reviewed on openrice: 09/04/2006

After reading a magazine about the black udon, I gave it a try. I must say I am very impressed with its taste. The udon was firm and chewy, with a slight squid ink taste, and sauce that came with it was the best, vinegary and fragrant with sesame. The complimenting vegetables included mustard cress and cherry tomatoes. The udon was garnished with pieces of gold which tasted like gelatin.

The cheese and sweetcorn gyoza is also worth ordering, since most places only do meat gyozas.

[Review 28] Average food @ 伊斯坦堡特快 Istanbul Express Turkish Restaurant

Date reviewed on openrice: 06/04/2006

Yesterday I tried this restaurant. I ordered a chicken doner with chips.

It didn't taste as nice as i expected, but rather plain, the manager told me that Turkish doners do not have sauce.

But anyway the chicken tasted a bit dry and crunchy, and I could feel it scratched my throat when i swallowed it.
The chips were also overdone, or they had been re-fried.

I also tried the native apple tea, I couldn't really taste any tea in it, but it just tasted like hot apple juice.
