Wellington Flat White

Apart from the coffees, I love the way this place is set out with lots of privacy.
It is a great place to hang out so is the other branch at Elements.
There were so many coffees to choose from and the Wellington Flat White seemed fancy so ordered that.
It was quite bitter so a lot of sugar is required if you want it sweeter.
Overall a nice place to sip your coffee slowly.

Whenever I walk past Marks and Sparks or Pret a Manger, it is always difficult to resist going inside.
This time I ended up eating the Bakewell slice and a chocolate orange cookie.
The cookie didn't have much orange flavour to it but you could slightly taste it which was good as it wasn't too artificial or overwhelming.
The Bakewell slice was so damn comforting because of the fragrant almond aroma and sweet layer of jam at the bottom.
It had a soft chewy texture.
On another visit, I had the freshly baked croissant with tomato and Mozzarella cheese.
It was quite nice but tasted like pizza because of the Mozzarella but personally I think it would taste better if cheddar cheese was used.

[Review 7148] Hearty and Cosy Italian fare in Quarry Bay @ Ask For Alonzo

https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/hearty-and-cosy-italian-fare-in-quarry-bay-e3282969
Quarry lacks good Italian food and Ask for Alonzo just hits the spot with Southern Italian dishes in a trattoria environment.Discovered this joint after going to the Tong Chong Street market.
There is an alfresco table where you can have drinks before dinner.
The menu had a good choice of variety.
Started with the bread with was accompanied with basil puree rather than the usual olive oil and balsamic.
I loved the basil puree as it complimented the bread very well.
For starters, had the burrata cheese with extra parma ham for +HKD60.
Basically all my favourites on one plate on a bed of colourful Heirloom tomatoes in all colours which were juicy and umami taste to the max along with the creamy burrata.
The extra ham gave it the salty flavours and goes very well with tomatoes and the burrata too.
Next were the meatballs which were topped with chunky grated Mozzarella cheese.
Each meatball was big and tasty loaded with herbs which accentuated the flavour as well as the chopped tomato sauce.
As well as the meats, the Zoodles are the best because they were juicy and crunchy without any grassy taste and the hazelnuts gave it a nutty balance to it.
For pasta, had the mixed mushroom and truffle fettucine served with poached egg.
It was good how it was not too creamy so you could taste everything from the truffles to the delicate egg.
Finished with the panna cotta and tiramisu which was a perfect ending complimented with aromatic coffee.
The panna cotta was creamy and sinfully delicious as it was made with double cream while the tiramisu was equally as good spiked with liquer.
Will definitely check it out again for the other dishes.

Umimachidon all the way from Japan

Recently went to QB to visit the White Christmas fair by Swire.
As it was after office hours, decided to dine in the area as all the office people have buggered off.
Stopped at Umimachidon because their donburis are quite unique in the sense that you are served Jelly vinegar and seafood broth with it.
I had a similar thing in TST so I knew it was worth trying because the Jelly vinegar makes it so appetizing but the restaurant in TST didn't have the soup.
As with most Japanese restaurants, there are no windows so the privacy is quite good.
Chose the one at the bottom as it had a bit of everything.
As you can see, it was loaded with scallop, shrimp, uni, salmon roe, crabmeat etc.
Beneath all that, there were clams and chopped eel with the rice.
The best thing was the vinegar jelly which made it so appetizing that I didn't need to use the wasabi.
After getting 2/3rds through, the bottle of seafood soup on the tray can be added to the rice.
I tried the soup on its own and it was fantastic as the fish taste was strong but without the unpleasant fishiness.
It was so good that I wish they could give me some more fish soup!.
Will be back if I am in the area again.

Went here because I love fish.
They serve fish maw which women love because of the collagen.
The noodle was my favourite because the fish gas bladder was big and generous however the fish maw wasn't soft enough.
As well as the fishy stuff, the tofu puffs absorbed the broth nicely.
Also had the beef beef cubes which was juicy and tender, but I still prefer the fish soup.

https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/soup-curries-e3146682
Asiri is famous for soup curries.
My first soup curry was at SAMA and since there is another restaurant doing soup curries, I had to check it out.
At Asiri, there is a choice of chicken, fish or veg.
You get potato salad with the curry.
Japanese potato salad can not go wrong as it always has a strong potato taste with a nice touch of mayo.
Chicken Leg curry:
The curry was quite similar to the one at SAMA but the aniseed spice is stronger.
It is not spicy so they give you a separate chili powder to add in.
The taste was ok without so I didn't use the chili powder.
Also had the grilled fish with rice but it was a bit too sweet.

There are now three branches of CCG in Hong Kong, the first branch is in WC, with the second in HH and now the third in QB.
As a fan of CCG, I decided to try it out.
The only thing this branch didn't have was rice!!!!!!!!!!
As for the dumplings they were just as good as the other branches, perhaps better than HH as the dumplings in HH were oily.
I tried the cabbage for the first time and it was really nice as there was some salty flavour to it with a fragrant sesame oil flavour to it.
The rest of the dumplings were consistently good, but I went late in the afternoon which could be the reason.
As I say QB is always a stupid food warzone with not enough food joints to cope so they can get away serving crap at rocket prices.

Being raised in UK. my first Chinese food memories were in China Town and Food from Chinese Takeways so it was a great experience at East Ocean Restaurant as they are now serving some dishes from the past.
There were a few that I have heard of such as Golden Money Chicken and the Pomelo Grapefruit skin which became reality on this visit.
The Golden Money Chicken does not contain any chicken at all but it is called that because it has chicken liver, a la layer of fat and roast meat.

The pomelo skin was mushy with a little bitterness.
0 讚好
My favourite was the white spring rolls stuffed with minced prawn.
0 讚好
For healthy options, the vegetable dish was my pick with lots of crunchy lily bulbs and lotus roots.

For dimsum, I liked the fried prawn dumplings which were succulent and springy.

Ever since I joined the OR platform, my motto on my profile has always been [★☆Eating good food is partly luck, @ da right place, @ da right time and moment the food is served.
Food should be eaten at appropriate temperatures too, as they taste different at different temperatures, especially when it is hot, you can't really taste the real taste.]
I feel that HK in particular, it is very hard for food to taste good the second time round hence I rarely go back to the same restaurant twice and most meats aren't fresh.
It seems that HK has too many options as well but in the UK, you would probably return to that joint once a fortnight due to choice if you live in a small town and the fact they can keep the food consistent.
Belgos/Nandos are very good examples, I used to go often and then I went back a few years later and everything still tasted the same.
Anyway, back to the food at Hans.
I noticed this joint because of their food bags which were brown and sturdy unlike the typical white ones with a nice logo so I decided to check it out for lunch.
When I got there, the decor was modern and simplistic.
0 讚好
The lunch menu and pricing was reasonable for QB as all the restaurants in that area cost around $60-$70.
0 讚好
I liked their healthy concept as no msg or colouring is used.
All their ingredients are prepared for each session and if any ingredients remain, it will not be used for the next session so they can maintain quality and freshness.
Tried the curry and BBQ pork with tofu.
The curry was really fragrant with a strong coconut taste while the sauce was rich and thick in consistency which went well with the rice.
My roast pork was fantastic, even though I came a bit late, the roast pork was soft and lean.
The colour was brown as they did not use any red colourings.
If you have seen people roasting char siu, quite a lot of colouring is used!!!
I also chose this because the dish had soft and silky tofu which is delicious with rice.
The soy sauce was not too sweet so everything was in harmony.
I can't wait to come back to try the dinner as it is quieter and portions are bigger while the menu is slightly different.

MonKee is famous for the semi cooked scrambled eggs with roast pork and prawns so this is a must order by default.
Unfortunately, I had eggs five days in a row so my meal here had to suffer by ordering something else.
As with all Chinese sets, they also come with toast and scrambled egg which I gave to my friend.
I had the liver noodles which were rather salty and the liver could have been silkier.
Ordering food here is quite difficult because you have to concentrate on the menu if you have menu dyslexia.
Finished with the salted lemon drink which wasn't salty enough for my liking.
