Went here because it looked pink and girly.
There menu had a good range and I liked the mini taros with chopped chilies but my friend wouldn't eat taro so ordered other stuff instead.
The panfried tofu was very tasty and spicy.
The duck was interesting because it was like sweet and sour with lots of fruits in the sauce.
Last but not least was this RICE TOFU.
I was expecting it to taste like tofu but it tastes a bit like steamed radish pudding without the radish and meat.
It was a very memorable dinner because we saw a furry friend scuttle to the cashier area.

[Review 5241] PAN de PAIN de Cheveux with 1% discount @ PAN de PAIN Pancakes & Sweets

PAN de PAIN Pancakes & Sweets

I have always wanted to try this place because of the souffle pancakes.
Went on a Monday because there is a 11% discount which is actually a 1% discount as there is a 10% service charge on top.
Basically it tasted like an eggy souffle but to my disgust there was hair in it.
I asked the waiter what it was and he confirmed that it was a strand of hair but he was nice enough to give me another one.

[Review 5050] Free newspaper clippings @ 合時小廚 Hop Sze Restaurant

https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/free-newspaper-clippings-e2543567
The menu drives people away because the options are weird.
For $102 you get a choice of vegetables, a choice of mains and two bowls of rice.
The reason it turns people away is that most of the choices on the mains are noodles or fried rice and then you get another two bowls of plain rice for what.
There is also a hidden charge for tea, which I sensed when I sat down because they were really pushy to get you to order tea ASAP.
The noodles I had were actually ok but I didn’t touch the rice because it was weird having rice with noodles and the rice was too hard to eat.
As for the vegetables, there was free newspaper clippings with it!
This is why I love Chinese food, there are so many fantastic unexpected surprises!
Anyway, they waived the tea charge for one person, which was so generous (NOT).
It is also interesting that on the menu, dessert is included but the staff don't tell you and when they finally do realize there is dessert, they said the red bean dessert is going to take time because it is not cooked yet.
Surely if dessert is on the menu, they should have it readily available because red bean dessert is a simple dessert that just needs to be kept warm in the saucepan.

[Review 3472] Great food but better hygiene required @ Ole Spanish Restaurant

https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/great-food-but-better-hygiene-required-e2373792
I have never heard of this restaurant but decided to go when I saw photos of the food posted by a fellow foodie.
This restaurant has been in business since 1998!!!
I was on my way there (on the 28th June) however I ended up going elsewhere because that restaurant had a captivating brunch.
After brunch I was still hungry so decided to check this place out for the squids but the staff said they were out of stock so I didn't dine there.
She took my number and called me back on Monday evening as promised (June 30th) so I decided to go the next day (1st July which was a public holiday).
Arrived and was allocated a nice big table.
The decor of this place was really nice.
The table next to me slightly irritated me because this local Chinese guy was talking really loudly and you could feel his voice resonate in your head.
Anyway, this was a minor issue as they had nearly finished and then left so it was nice and quiet.
Started off with the soups and found a strand of black hair in it.
This was promptly changed and I didn't think anymore of it.
However when we had dessert, my friend found a long strand of hair in the dessert!!!!!
It must be a 1 in a million chance of more than one person finding a strand of hair in two different dishes!!!
Now back to the food.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Stuffed baby squid with prawn and almonds:
This was amazing especially the squid ink sauce, each squid was tender filled with aromatic almonds in the middle.
The remaining squid ink sauce in the dish was not wasted because it was delicious with bread and potatoes.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Roasted suckling pig:
The suckling pig was tender and soft, the skin was crisp and delicious.
A definite must order.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fried milk with toffee reduction:
This was a bit sweet but I loved it, it had a light crispy coating and inside there was curded milk flavoured by the delicious toffee sauce.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
The food was great so I do intend to go again.

[Review 3354] A taste of Chatuchak @ Chatuchak Coconut Icecream
10/05/2014
Chatuchak Coconut Icecream
太子水渠道30-32A地下 3 號舖
Shop 3, G/F., 30-32A Nullah Road, Prince Edward
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/a-taste-of-chatuchak-e2362466
As I haven't been to Thailand before let alone Chatuchak, I was glad that this joint serves the famous Coconut icecream from Chatuchak street.
Ironically, it is located right next to this coconut milk beverage joint which has been there for years.
[I wonder if they are competitors or partners!!]
I specifically came here for the NC coconut jelly but they said it was sold out even though there were two in the fridge which is the same packaging as the one on their FB.
[It was probably reserved for the media].
Sampled their coconut icecream which was not bad.
As I came all the way to MK, decided to try the dessert served in a coconut shell which is basically the famous Chatuchak coconut icecream served in a coconut shell with coconut flesh and a topping.
Some of the flesh is partially scooped for your convenience.
For $25, you get a mini cup of coconut water and a free topping.
The toppings you can choose are coconut gels, cornflakes, palm coconut, red beans and more but I would like to see glutinous rice as an option too.
It was a bit troublesome paying and collecting the dessert because MK is really crowded.
I was given the coconut water which I downed immediately or I wouldn't have hands for the dessert.
The coconut water comes from the coconuts and not the cans displayed beside it.
It was quite good that they gave you that because when they open the coconut the water isn't wasted and it freshens your mouth with a nice coconut aroma before you start the icecream.
After i finished that, the dessert came which was served in a small coconut shell wrapped in some paper.
I chose cornflakes as a topping because the cornflakes were unsweetened.
Beneath the scoop of icecream, there was scraped coconut meat from the shell.
I loved it because the coconut icecream was like icy sorbet with pieces of coconut meat in it with a creamy taste that was complemented nicely by the cornflakes which had a tad of saltiness to it.
As i finished most of the icecream, the coconut meat was pretty hard to scrape using their plastic spoon.
For improvements, it would be good if they scraped all the flesh because their spoons are not made for tough use.
While I was eating there this woman also had trouble finishing off the flesh at the bottom and queried the girl about it.
The staff was really nice and helped her scrape the rest.
However the scraper was not immediately washed and placed back in the holder so when they next use it that person will get her saliva.
Apart from that, it was really delicious because the coconut flesh tastes creamier with more mouthfeel compared to the young coconut flesh which is softer.
Next time I am in MK, I will try the coconut jelly.

[Review 3115] $10 for an unusual experience @ Initial Ice Cream Store

Initial Ice Cream Store

Shop 2, G/F, 48 Cameron Road, Tsim Sha Tsui
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/10-for-an-unusual-experience-e2343160
After reading the reviews I was curious about their softserve icecreams.
Currently there are two flavours:
-Usual experience - 3.6 hokkaido milk
-Unusual experience - I dig leather
There is some speculation that there will be a new flavour to come called "tears".
(I wonder if it is going to be savoury!)
The softserve costs $10.
It was hard deciding which one to get, so I asked the guy about the Unusual experience and he said it tastes like tea.
I was silly to have thought that he meant Western milk tea coming from a Chinese guy because for milk tea they only have one kind which is the one I hate.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
I dig leather :
Unfortunately I did not like it because it tasted just like Hong Kong Style tea.
I really regretted not getting the Usual experience because it tastes like white rabbit sweets according to the reviews.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Maintenance!
Yeah right!
I was so annoyed they stopped serving softserve because no one eats froyo/icecream during the winter except me because the temperature of winter here is probably autumn in the UK.
COME ON... ITS NOT COLD!!!

I was attracted to the new Durian dessert with Glutinous rice because of the Jar.
Previously tried it before because Mjqueen7e got me the Frozen one from some local supermarket.
According to their Facebook and product shots, the glutinous rice is on the bottom layer with fresh durian meat on top.
There is a label on the jar in Chinese saying " Please take me home to be reused"
The glutinous rice was in a plastic tub which was put inside the glass jar.
The fresh durian was placed on top of the glutinous rice and strangely garnished with parsley which was so funny in a dessert.
It seems that you can take the inner plastic tub out which contains the dessert, and the bottom half of the jar is clean.
As I was going to reuse it, I decided to wipe the jar with tissue in case there were traces of dessert on it and I was SHOCKED to see the TISSUE WAS BLACK!!
How can they put food in DIRTY containers.
Food grade containers are a standard and clean containers for food are a must!
Wouldn't this make an interesting article for Appledaily after having just reported Hoi Tin Tong's contaminated turtoise desserts.
It makes me wonder if people in Hong Kong know the definition of Food grade containers or even food hygiene.
I suppose I was also lucky because according to their Facebook, the glutinous rice and durian is actually in the jar and touching the insides of the jar directly.
The only fortunate thing was that the glutinous rice did not touch that black stuff.
Their recycling label should read:
I am dirty, please take me home to be recycled
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Durian and glutinous rice:
The durian was quite mushy and sweet and the glutinous rice was dehydrated and hard that I wonder how long it had been in the fridge.
