[Review 5675] Trying to stay focused on the food @ Cassio

Cassio is opened by my favourite group dragon-i and in the kitchen it is helmed by THREE Spanish chefs!!
One of my favourite chefs Martin Currasco works there and he recently went to London's Michelin starred barrafina for training.
At Cassio you can expect high quality food here and some unique dishes created for the Hong Kong palate.
We began with the popular Sangria soaked with rich red berries that releases the sugar into the drink.
I had the Cassio lemon which was strawberries in macerated Sherry vinegar, basil, compressed citrus and soda water.

Boy you can really taste the vinegar in it.

Dining at the bar table can be very distracting because Sebastian is really good looking that it is hard to focus on the food and remember the how it tastes!!!!

(For the whole night I kept looking down at the table to stay focused!!)

prawn croquetas:

You will only find this at Cassio because they created this for HKers.

Croquetas with a twist filled with silky seafood bisque bechamel and pieces of springy prawn.

Stuffed courgette flower with mushrooms, Alaskan crab lightly coated tempura batter.

It was beautiful how the flower was stuffed with crab and then lightly fried.

Inside the filling was rich and tasty complemented by the baby sweet courgette.

Marinated olives:

There were three types of olives gordal, manzanilla and kalamata.

A lovely assortment of olives which were salty and nutty in flavour.

Spanish red prawn:

Spanish red prawns always taste good, they don't need any special seasoning.

You get bread to dip that delicious sauce so don't forget to squeeze the head for the best bit!

spinach pear salad:

A nice mix of pomegranite, balsamic vinegar, pecan nuts and Idiazabal cheese.

Classic potato omelette:

There are three different omelettes that they serve and they are must order items because the inside is runny so you won't find another tortilla like that unless it gets copied.

A deliciously simple omelette made with fine eggs and potatoes.

Juicy seafood rice clams red prawn:

This is a bit like paella but it comes with more broth which makes it even more yummy topped with fresh clams and red prawn.

Stuffed chicken wings:

Hong Kongers love chicken wings so Cassio has searched their recipes for chicken wing related dishes and created this.
They are juicy wings stuffed with prawn, mushrooms and zucchini.

vegetable menestra:
As a veggie lover, I loved this because it was vegetables in a foie gras stock which is not as heavy as you would think.

It had my favourite romanesco and okra.

I was really full but we still had the Macedonia dessert which was fluffy vanilla chantilly with a filo cracker topped with fruit.

Went here again because the veggie balls were sold out last time.
On the last visit, I was puzzled why people kept pouring liquid from the metal flask when there was hot water in the machine.
I finally found out why when someone used a clear bottle and it turned out to be milk they were pouring so you can get free milk here lol!!!

Veggie balls with big couscous pearls:
Tried this before and I hated the sauce. On this visit, I forgot to ask them not to put it in.

Anyway, the the veggie balls are more filling now because they give you big couscous pearls (underneath) for the same price.

Pizza:

A nice slice of pizza with a soft base and melted cheese.

Simple and delicious with a tangy tomato paste.

Cinnamon bun:
I didn't like this because there was a weird plasticky smell and taste.

Tried to order food but the stuff I wanted was sold out.
I went earlier the next day for Thai crepes but they didn't have it either so I wonder if I should bother a third time the next time I am in the area.

Went here and ate some interesting dishes.
The roasted piglet (not mine) was no bigger than a chihuahua!!
I found the vegetable dish very interesting, it was a cooked salad of lettuce and tomatoes.
Despite the strange combination, I liked the tomato broth.
Tried the NZ black abalone which is grey in colour. It tastes a bit like squid.
There was fish maw but it tasted a bit fishy.

I was really looking forward to dining here because of the decor.

However the noodles were average and the broth was very salty.
The pork blood cubes tasted strange and rather metallic.

The fried chicken fared better but also extremely salty.

Got the noodles in satay broth with Vietnamese pork sausage afternoon tea set.

I wasn't impressed with the pork sausages because it was laced with lemongrass.

The broth was tasteless as well lacking any peanut flavor.

Eating in crappy Sai Kung is getting expensive these days Thanks to the damn people flogging to SK every damn weekend and public holidays.

If you have travelled to other countries, SK is shat!

I definitely wouldn't waste my time in SK because there is so much better food on the HK side.

Anyway, had the pad thai which was quite good with lots of tiny dried shrimps in it and it was not cloyingly sweet.

Went here randomly and as there were not much options on the menu I decided to go for the Sichuan fish poached in Chili oil.

I wanted to get the fried rice with Sichuan beef but it was risky because fried rices in HK have this weird oily smell.

Started with a Chinese soup which was really good because the pork that they put in was really fresh.

Next came the nightmare, it didn't even look like Sichuan fish and the fish they used is not the typical fish that they use which is silky and smooth.

Secondly there were no Sichuan spices and it was not even spicy that you could drink it like a broth except that it was quite salty.

Weirdly, there were pieces of shiitake mushrooms and beanshoots in it as well.

The worst part was the rice, it was not even cooked that it was quite crunchy I thought I was chewing on fish bone!

When this place opened I have always wanted to try it.
However as this joint has funny opening hours and days that they are closed I messaged them on FB in October for a menu but didn't get a reply.
Anyway, finally made it one day and had the chocolate milkshake which was rather icy and not as smooth as I anticipated.
