[Review 7152] Starbucks at the ground floor of the Maxim's Building @ 星巴克咖啡 Starbucks Coffee

As I was in the area, I discovered that this whole building belonged to the Maxims group so went in there out of curiosity and discovered a Starbucks.
There is another restaurant on the 1st floor but it is only for Maxim's staff.
As it was lunch had the meatball and potato pie, pancakes and Chocolate red tea latte.
The meatball and potato pie was held in a flakey tart base and it was filled with rich tangy tomato sauce which was also quite sweet at the same time.
The meatballs in the pie were quite nice as it had lots of herbs and tasted more like sausage meat.
You could tell the pancakes were pre made and taken from a stack and heated as they were neatly stuck together in a pile.
They were a bit dry and sweet but dipping it in the drink made it more palatable.
Finished with the Chocolate red tea which was rather sweet and the chocolate was more prominent than the tea so I didn't really like it.

Affordable Hainan Chicken in the area
2019-01-22  142 瀏覽
Ended up dining here because it was affordable and less expensive compared to other restaurants nearby.
After looking at the menu, discovered that it was very similar to the Golden Chicken , they both serve the pumpkin soup, pork knuckle with gravy, meat patties but Chick n Rice has one item that Golden Chicken doesn't have which is the bak kut teh soup.
Both have a very similar Chinese name if you compare the characters, the last 8 characters are the same ie 去骨海南雞專門店.

As it was my first time here, I ordered the small portion of Hainan Chicken for HKD44 and requested for the White meat.
The best thing is that you don't get charged extra as Hong Kongers hate it whereas if you ask for the chicken leg you get charged HKD5 more.

It really depends what cuisine I have, if it is Western Style roast chicken, I always request for the leg but for Asian Style I always go for the white meat as there more edible meat there.
Asian chicken is always randomly chopped so you get served a lot of chicken skin, bones, parts that should be thrown away which are not.

When I got it, I was really pleased with the chicken, it was neatly sliced, the chicken was half exposed.
It was pure lean chicken meat and not much to throw away except the skin and the weird mid joint wing at the bottom left which doesn't contain much chicken anyway.
The only complaint was the rice because it was really hard which was a waste especially when there is so much good quality chicken and delicious sauces.
The pumpkin soup was a bit sweet though and it had green carrots in it as well.

Went to Food Creative to see what was around and ended up having soup after some noodles.
There are various of soups to choose from ranging from HKD48-HKD68.
HKD68 is quite expensive for soup especially if you don't know if they are good or not so I chose the HKD48 soup to start with.
In terms of taste,  it was much stronger than Stewed in Cheung Sha Wan and there were more bits and bobs found in the soup.
The black fungus was very gelatinous and the taste of the soup was a tad salty with some MSG but better than the bland soup at Stewed not because it was saltless but it lacked pork which gives it more umami flavour.

Previously tried Funky Monkey in Jordan and I have always wanted to go back for the Nepalese food rather than drinks.Went to Food Creative recently to see what was around and Funky Monkey was there so went there for the noodles.

The only thing I wanted to try was either the momos or the noodles.
In the end got the noodles because Nepalese noodles are rather tasty.

The noodles came with tomato soup.

The noodles had lots of flavour but unfortunately too salty just like the noodles at this other Nepalese joint near SYP.
The tomato soup was very acidic, it tasted like the tomato brine that you get in canned tomatoes but in soup form.

Above average Japanese fare in Cheung Sha Wan

Cheung Sha Wan has changed quite a bit over the decades.
There are more newly built residential flats and new offices in the area raising the living and dining standards, hence more restaurant chains and expensive restaurants are coming to the area.

Heya Crystal and Heya Aqua are relatively new developments in the area.
At Heya Crystal, you will find fairwood and saizeyria on the ground floor, while on the first floor you will find Lime Fish and Yuyu Sushi.
I was lured by the yakitori and sushi as they had both.

If you order four or more different skewers you get 20% off.
Started with the snapper soup which was creamy and had a lovely umami aftertaste.

For sushi, I had the lean cut tuna sushi which was ruby red in colour, also umami to the max when dipped in soy sauce.

Finished with the yakitori which was glistening and smelling good when it arrived.

The chicken ones were rather sweet and my favourite one was the Iberico pork which was lean and tender complimented by the baby sweetcorn.
Will be back as I regretted not getting the salmon roe warship.

Went here after dining at Yuyu, frankly I should of left because the lady at the reception was rather rude.Anyway, decided to dine there anyway as I was already there.
There was so much used tissue from the previous table and this was just one piece.

I was quite surprised that I had to place my order asap without having to press the order button because she was literal standing by the table demanding me to order.
The table on my right kept complaining their table was smelly so asked the be-itchy waitress to wipe it and the be-itchy waitress just gave them a tissue and walked off.

My semifreddo desserts arrived quickly but both needed some time defrosting as they came straight out of the freezer.

The hazelnut semifreddo was really good as the hazelnut was prominent and there was a layer of meringue in the  middle as well as cream.

The chocolate semifreddo was strong and rich heavily on the cocoa but not as sweet.

Both were good with coffee and tea which are available at the drinks bar for an extra HKD13.
Saizeryria is good in general but not this branch.

Went past this a while ago but soon forgot about it because the location is at the outskirts between cheung sha wan and sham shui po.
Finally went past it again and got a drink because it was so hot that day.
Got the mint chocolate slushie and it was impressive watching the guy make it because everything was measured eg the milk, flavouring etc so that each drink will taste consistent.
It was blended with ice cream so I really liked it and the mint taste did not taste like toothpaste so it was really good.

Gold Mondo is a nice place for gatherings in the SSP/Cheung Sha Wan hood as the food is affordable and they even have sake.

The staff were really friendly.
I had the durian smoothie which was surprisingly good as you could taste real durian.

The lime soda was ok.

We all shared the snacks platter.
My favourite was the steamed Bánh cuốn which was packed with tasty minced pork, shallots etc.
The rest were a bit over fried.

The Hainan chicken relied heavily on the scallion oil as to make it tastier.

I appreciate teas so whenever there is a new tea house or tea themed cafe I have to go and check it out.
When you go in, you will notice the simplistic yet modern decor. The menu is extensive, as you will find set meals, tea based drinks and cakes.

The set meal is pretty simple, you can choose from Chazuke, Noodles in tea soup, or noodles in cold tea soup paired with two sides from a choice of four.

Tried the Chazuke and Noodles in Tea Soup.
Both were filling and the sides that day were yuzu and sencha chicken wings, tofu in Jasmine tea, mixed mushrooms in oolong and fish in lemongrass orange dressing.
As well as the tea flavours in the sides, there were lots of tea leaves that you could see.

Chazuke:

Noodles in Tea Soup:

There were so many drinks to choose from so I had the chocolate with masala which was chocolate with a hint of spices.
Masala Chocolate:

The Matcha Au Lait was a popular drink, where you get to mix the matcha and pour it it.
It was fun and you get try the matcha before you pour it in to see how it tastes.
As well as Matcha, they also had my favourite Earl Grey in chiffon cake form.
It was light and fluffy complimented with my favourite whipped cream.
I can't wait to come again but queues are expected on the weekends.

Oxidised guacamole

Went here as I was in the area and was still hungry. It is obvious that not many people have ordered the loaded fries because the guacamole is oxidized on the surface and probably has been sitting in the fridge longer than it should have.
The lady next to me also asked me what the green stuff was so I think it is a good indicator that the people in this area are not that adventurous.
Anyway, the so called salsa sauce on the fries is just sauce with a touch of BBQ and Cajun so it doesn't contain fresh tomatoes but then McDs hardly ever uses fresh tomatoes in its ingredients.
Everything tasted ok but I got the shxits the next day.
