I rarely go for Chinese desserts but tried this place because it is famous and found it addictive after trying it.
The other famous chinese desserterie in Sai Kung failed to impress me.
Chung's dessert in Po Lam is also good but inconsistent so hopefully they will cope with the new competition.
The lighting in this branch felt slightly unnatural and surreal.

Chinese HALO!
I hardly eat Chinese desserts so I do not know much about them but this reminded me of the Philipino dessert called Halo-Halo which is also a mixture of things. (see below for more information on Halo Halo)
Anyway the locals said that this dessert was a Chinese dessert called Ja Ja with mango added to it.
It was interesting because there was sweetcorn, black eyed beans in it.
This is not really my cup of tea but wrote about it because it reminded me of HALO HALO.

Halo-halo is a popular Filipino dessert that is a mixture of shaved ice and evaporated milk to which are added various boiled sweet beans and fruits, and served in a tall glass or bowl. Ingredients include boiled kidney beans, garbanzos, sugar palm fruit (kaong), coconut sport (macapuno), and plantains caramelized in sugar, jackfruit (langkâ), gulaman, tapioca, nata de coco, sweet potato (kamote), pounded crushed young rice (pinipig). In terms of arrangement, most of the ingredients (fruits, beans, and other sweets) are first placed inside the tall glass, followed by the shaved ice. This is then sprinkled with sugar, and topped with either (or a combination of) leche flan, purple yam (ubeng pula), or ice cream. Evaporated milk is poured into the mixture upon serving.

White Jelly with aloe
It looked interesting on the menu so ordered it, when it arrived it looked really angelic but does not show up on the photo.
The lychee noodles looked really nice because they were transparent and glistened in the light.
Basically it is cubes of almond pudding, white pearls, aloe and lychee noodles on top.
I liked most of elements in this dessert apart from the lychee noodles because I found it slightly too sweet.

Purple rice with sea coconut dessert
The purple rice was nice and cooling and the sea coconut was sweet.
Also not my cup of tea but if it was not so sweet it would be a good source of fibre.

Purple rice custard dumplings
I rarely like Chinese sweet dumplings but I loved them.
There was also other flavours as well from traditional to green tea with custard.
The dumplings were served in sweet ginger soup which was had a nice strong fiery ginger tone which balances out the sweetness of the dumplings.

There was am interesting fly on the bill. When I took a picture of the bill it turned itself to the camera and did not fly away! What a poser!

[Review 590] Been there, done that! @ 潮州合成甜品 Chiu Chow Hop Shing Dessert

Not my usual place for dessert, especially chinese style, everything on the menu basically contains lotus seeds, a chinese ingredient that I do not like, a bit starchy.

Anyway I got the chiu chow style dessert with split green beans, water chestnuts and the compulsory lotus seeds, it was totally different to the one I had at this other chiu chow joint, it is totally watery here, and has lots of bubble on the surface!

Luckily I ordered the cold version with ice, it helped cool down the dessert and diluting the sweetness of it, also the shop had no air con, so it got a bit hot and stuffy.

As for the other dessert, another weird mix of ice-cream, lotus seeds, and other stuff.

[Review 276] Snowflake ice @ 甜品老媽 (筲箕灣) Dessert Loma

So happy, finally had a chance to try the snowflake ice, I actually gave up twice at the other place, but after discovering that the snowflake ice is exactly the same as the MK one, I was totally confident to try it here.

Basically, production wise, it would be the same, as the same machine is used to make it, and taste wise, they both order from the same manufacturer, and the add on ingredients were the same too by comparison, ie the pearls, liquid filled pearls, stars etc.

The snowflake ice base has 11 flavours to choose from, hence I chose the milk one to start off with, to get a feel for its textures and taste the toppings.

I chose hazelnut sauce, however I wasn't sure if it was on it or not, cos the whole dessert was plain white, not a sign of any sauce on it, I was expecting hazelnut to be brown? Anyway the other toppings I added were mango stars, white pearls, and chocolate filled pearls.

The snowflake ice tasted how I expected it to be, a icy texture slowly melting into cold milky liquid, then adding the toppings to it, added some chewy texture oozing with melted snowflake, due to the pearls.
Then eating the snowflake with the chocolate pearls, it was like bursts of chocolate sauce. As for the mango stars, they were rather soft and sweet.
But overall I enjoyed it thoroughly.

[Review 71] Sweet sweets @ 發記甜品 Lucky Dessert

Ordered a baked banana in filo pastry.
Served as shown on the picture.
I think if there was more pastry it would taste nicer. Next I will try the durian one, as banana is a little bit too sweet for me.
