There were two yoghurt smoothes: blueberry or mango and raspberry.
I wish it were blueberry and raspberry rather than mango and raspberry.

At this branch, they also have lunch sets such as noodles and curry with rice.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Blueberry yoghurt smoothie

Anyway I ordered the smoothie without sugar because I had a feeling the yoghurt would be sweet.
When it was ready it looked exactly like the product shot topped with three blueberries on top.
Luckily I asked for it unsweetened because it was still sweet because of the yogurt.
Overall it was a really nice drink and the blueberry taste was not artificial.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Came back for the set lunch because not all the branches do set lunches.
All the set lunches come with a choice of three drinks: mango and coconut milk, coconut milk or watermelon juice, so if you are a fan of HLS drinks then this deal is not bad for $31 as you get the drink which normally costs around $2X so you are just paying $1X for the food and you get a delicious dessert as well.

For the food you can choose noodles or rice to go with satay beef or marinated chicken leg in soy sauce or mixed curry.
For the dessert you get to choose iced mango cake or cookie iced cake which is just an icecream cake topped with bread crumbs.
Anyway I chose the chicken leg with rice, coconut milk and the cookie iced cake.
When it came the hot food was wrapped in clingfilm as well because the lid to the chicken was too big.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
chicken leg with rice

Although the chicken was not fresh the chicken meat was tender.
As expected it was pre-cooked chicken and reheated just like their other items such as the fishballs and squid.
The soy sauce was generous but it just tasted sweet.

The rice was too soft and mushy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
coconut milk

I did not like the set drinks but chose this for the sake of choosing it.
The drink was a bit sickly but the sweetness was just right.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
cookie iced cake

The cake was delicious, it was thick frozen chocolate cream with pieces of soft cookie bits in it.
To be honest it was icecream with cookie crumbs on top.

I really liked their stirring chocolate series, so when the Christmas edition came out I did not hesitate to try it.
On the product shot, the Christmas edition is chocolate with nuts which look green on the product shot.
I thought they were pistachios.

However when you get the drink, the nuts cannot be seen as nearly as the product shot and they are not green.
It would have been nice if the nuts were pistachios.

Anyway, the milk was luke warm so it did not melt the chocolate properly.
But other than that, the new drink is as good as the other drinks in the Stirring chocolate series.

The last time I had the fondue was in February, ten months later, HLS have introduced a better fondue, and the fondue items were slightly better than last time.
This time, there are two chocolate flavours for the fondue, white chocolate and strawberry and chocolate and orange.

The white chocolate and strawberry was sweeter than the chocolate. The strawberry flavouring was not as fake as expected.

As for the fondue elements there were: melons, cantaloupe melons, kiwis, strawberries, bananas, marshmallow, finger biscuits and frozen mango cream cake.
The finger biscuits were slightly soft and stale.
As usual I think its weird to put melons and kiwi’s into fondue, but maybe its Asian style or the availability of fruit, usually it is berries and banana’s.

The chocolate fondue was not as sweet compared to the strawberry, and there were pieces of orange rind, which gave it some orange flavouring.
The chocolate fondue was nice with the banana, and the rest tasted nice with the strawberry fondue especially the strawberry because the sweetness of the fondue took away the sourness of the strawberry.
The marshmallows were better than last time because there was no colour in it.

Lastly there was the frozen mango cream cake, I would have preferred more fresh fruit instead or the cookie cake because the cream was just tasteless and not really a cake if it was just plain frozen cream and mango.
It is similar to the serradura, but just made with fake cream.

The candle beneath the fondue was not that strong because the chocolate did not become hot after sitting there for a while, and I tried to burn the marshmallow by placing it close above the flame nothing happened!

◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆
To warm up for winter, lets play a game of spot the difference!
If you have read my HLS reviews before, you will know what I am talking about.

◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆
The last drink I had at HLS was the chocolate fruit drink, it was extremely nice, but it depends which branch you go because I found it inconsistent.
I really like the way HLS is slowly changing its image by serving almost Western drinks with some Chinese elements to it.
The design of the cup is similar to the Western brands of coffee with a slight Taiwanese touch to it.
It is quite interesting their recent products such as the choco fruit drink and this drink do not feature their corporate image.

HLS design VS Pacific coffee:

Anyway, I tried to order this drink when I dined there, but I didnt realise it was Takeaway only!!

The fine print: Take away only

I felt that it killed the fun because as a Takeaway drink, the solid chocolate on the spoon was already in the cup of hot milk with the lid firmly on.
It took away all the magic of visually stirring it and seeing it turn from milk into chocolate and virtually impossible whilst walking through packed streets with the lid on.
But with a lid clasped firmly on, and for takeaway, it takes the fun and magic away.
Anyway it totally defeats the purpose being called Stirring Belgium Chocolate.

It should be served A la Carte with the spoon of solid chocolate and the drink served separately so you can have the fun of putting the chocolate into the hot milk and stirring it until it magically turns into hot chocolate, after all their poster is conveying stirring belgium chocoate.

However the magic could still be saved if they used a clear plastic cup, but the cup would be too hot to hold as a takeaway drink.
The weather is not helping too, because I love sipping hot chocolate in the cold, and frankly it is still summer to me.

I do not like milk but since this one had Belgian chocolate I decided to try it.
It was basically a cup of hot milk with a choice of Belgian chocolate, Strawberry chocolate or Mocha.
You also get a free condiment to put in the drink which is similar to the Taiwanese drinks, the choices are wheatgerm, purple rice or mini glutinous rice balls.

The service at this branch was poor, the staff didn’t seem to have any knowledge of the drink or perhaps it was new and no one had ordered it yet, the staff did not ask me which chocolate I wanted or which condiment I wanted. I had to tell her I wanted the mini glutinous rice dumplings.

I ordered the Belgian chocolate but when I opened the lid I saw bits of pink floating!!

They gave me the Strawberry chocolate and not the Belgian chocolate, but luckily I chose the glutinous rice balls because I don’t like the combination of wheat germ or purple rice with strawberry.

Fully melted chocolate mixed with milk
Luckily I found a quiet spot to stir the chocolate before it melted and it turned out quite nice.
However there was SYRUP in it which made it too sweet and totally ruined it, but the scent of strawberry was really nice with the chocolate and not that fake.
The mini glutinous rice dumplings matched ok with chocolate and strawberry.
Next time I will request it without syrup

[Review 1172] HLS Choco-series Part 1 (Choco-strawberry) @ 許留山 Hui Lau Shan Healthy Dessert

Hui Lau Shan is getting impressive these days, it used to be boring mango and Chinese fruit desserts.

After discovering I could request for drinks to be less sweet, the drinks became nicer, and the last time I had HLS was the chocolate fondue.
It was nice to have chocolate fondue elsewhere rather than at a western dessert house.

Again, saw this chocolate drink which is unusual for HLS, quite different to its style.
This time a chocolate beverage!
The good thing about HLS is that the drink is guaranteed to contain real fruit rather than fruit syrups or essences.

After I tried all three flavours, I found that it tasted different in different branches, also the pricing was different!
In conclusion, the HLS at MetroCity is the best for the choco-series.
The other two at Hang Hau and Wanchai tasted like slushy blended ice milo with a powdery chocolate taste!
From the other two reviews, the photo shows that the chocolate is not as smooth as this one.

After trying the melon and banana from those branches I forgot how good it tasted, but when I went back to MetroCity, the taste was totally different.
The chocolate drink there is much smoother and velvety. The chocolate taste is extremely creamy and the texture is a bit like McDonalds chocolate shake with a significant amount of blended fruit.
The chocolate tasted like blended chocolate ice-cream and NOT like chocolate powder milkshake.

If you do go want to try the choco series and happen to be in MetroCity, here is the place to try, do not bother with other HLS branches because the proportions they use in blending the drink may be different, also the price could be $32.

After trying the choco-strawberry and choco-melon drinks, I got the choco banana from this branch to try.

There was a price difference from the two other stores, both Hang Hau and the Po Lam branch cost $29 per cup, but here the choco-series cost $32!
If you check my choco-melon review, the photo shows that it only cost $29 per cup!~

picture that shows it cost $29 per cup
http://static4.openrice.com.hk/UserPhoto/photo/2/278/00FNF13C53CE10779AF703m.jpg

Anyway, I ordered two, the choco banana and choco strawberry to compare the strawberry one at this branch with the Po Lam one.

However when both drinks were made, the drinks where not consistent, there was more chocolate powder in the choco-strawberry than the choco-banana, and the colour of the choco strawberry was evidently darker!
It was even more evident whilst both blenders were side by side, you could see the colour difference.

To my dismay, both of them at a more expensive price than the previous branches did not taste as good at the one at Po Lam.
There was too much chocolate that it was powdery and there was not enough strawberries or banana in it.
It was just like drinking a slushy chocolate smoothie.
Nothing near the amazing choco-strawberry drink at Po Lam.

Previously tried the strawberry chocolate drink which was the best, the banana one would be second best, but decided to try the choco-melon before that.

This branch is newly opened and is opposite the sushi take-away joint.
For beverages it is competing with Gung Cha drinks nearby, and as a dessert shop, it is competing with Chung's nearby.

As expected this drink did not taste as good as the strawberry one I tried first, partly because of the fruit combination and partly to do with the chocolate.
I mean who combines melon and chocolate, only the Chinese do and they weirdly give you melon and watermelon for chocolate fondues!

The strawberry one I had at Po-Lam was much better, the chocolate was silky and not powdery like this one.
The one at Po-Lam was more slushy, but the one here had a milkier taste.
The only difference is that the one at Po-Lam was drunk straight away, and this one was not, so the ice in it may have melted.
The chocolate curls given here were not as much as the Po_Lam branch.

Next I am going to try Choco-Banana, which should be good because banana and chocolate always go well together, hopefully the proportion of cocoa powder will be less.

There are various versions of steamed egg white, hasmar jelly, bird's nest and the plain one.

The taste of the egg white was bland, but you could taste a hint of ginger, but no milkyness or eggyness.

Anyway, the hasmar jelly and the bird's nest are just added on top if you choose those ones.

Ordered the chocolate fondue, which is practically as good as the fondue else where, the fruit could have been fresher and the fruit selection could have been more appropriate.
Usually it is berries, but I suppose in Hong Kong, I have to make to with the locally available fruit such a melon.
I consider melon as more of a fruit to go with savoury items such as Parma ham

The fondue set comprises of chocolate fondue, ice-cream, plate of cut fruit consisting of banana, kiwi, strawberries, honeydew melon and cantaloupe melon, finger biscuits and 3 marshmallows.

Although the waitress forgot to light up the candle beneath the chocolate fondue until I was halfway through eating it, I could have done without because the type of chocolate they used is not even fondue chocolate but lame chocolate sauce which does not go hard when you dip cold things into it.

The fondue set costs $58 but there are vouchers to download on their website.

Apart from the chocolate set, I also got the curry mixture, which consists of fish balls, sliced stomach, squid tentacles and white carrot.
The curry was a little too spicy for me and there was a film of chilli oil at the top, which made it even spicy.
The sliced stomach was a little too soft, but the rest was ok.

Nice cooler for the summer. Peach yoghurt with mini dumplings at the bottom.
There is also a pineapple version too, and you can choose either crystal jelly or mini dumplings.

The yoghurt does not taste like Yakult or natural yoghurt, but the whole drink tastes a bit like the pomelo mango dessert.

There are two types, one served with red beans and the other served with sugar jelly.
I ordered the sugar jelly one, because most of the elements I liked such as strawberry, peach, sugar jelly, pearls.

It was presented on a bed of fruity ice, with sugar jelly, strawberry slices, peach slices, dragon eye, pearls and another scoop of fruity ice on top.
Overall, it was pleasant, not too sweet.
The pearls let the dessert down as it was hard and chewy.
I was impressed with the strawberries because they were red and ripe.

The texture of the fruity ice was slightly like sorbet, but since it contained hokkaido milk, it was not so moist, but brittle and dry.
It didnt taste that milky but there was hints of dragon eye in it.
