Impressive macaroni
2017-05-07  604 瀏覽
Went here to avoid the Festival Walk crowd and I was in for a surprise.

I ordered the luncheon ham laksa macaroni which turned out to be delicious.
It was not an authentic laksa broth base because there was a strong tomato taste with hint of coconut but it was surprisingly addictive.
The macaroni was decent as well, it was soft but still al dente with a good thickness.

I was impressed with the ham as well because it was chopped up and not served as a slice.

The beanshoots in it was weird though but it didn't annoy me.

I was on my way to ....but when I got there it had been replaced by this!!
Anyway, I decided to try it because there were so many gelatos and drinks.
I started with the Panini which was difficult to choose as there were two that were good ( The parma ham and buffalo mozzarella and the ham with fontina cheese).

For dessert it was a battle choosing between the purple potato egg puffs and the black forest pancakes.

In the end, I ordered with Ham with Fontina cheese panini and the purple potato egg puff.

+++++++++

Fontina cheese panini:

I loved this because the panini was crisp and light while the fontina cheese was melted and gooey.

There was sweet apricot mustard in it as well which balanced the heaviness of the cheese.

+++++++++

purple potato egg puff:

I didn't have any expectations for this because desserts in HK are way too sweet.

Surprisingly, the sweetness was just right because the purple potato gelato isn't very sweet which balances the sweetness of the waffle.

The coconut pieces were the best because it was soft young coconut meat which made me wish it was taro flavoured gelato instead of purple potato.

There were cute oreo biscuits on the waffle to garnish which are about the size of the egg puff bubbles.

Well, I guess I have to come back again for the black forest pancakes and the other panini.

When the DIY burgers were first launched, there were not much options for vegetarians and ordering it without the beef patty would cost the same.

Later they added pumpkin and asparagus to the menu and now they have Portobello mushrooms which is more substantial if you are on a vegetarian diet.
Unfortunately, it tasted like canned/boiled mushrooms because it was soggy and they didn't grill it.

There was also lots of black pepper on the Portobello mushroom which ruined it.
The grilled champignons were a waste of money as well.

Also had these freshly fried crisps which just tasted like crisps with a little warmth to it.

Out of all the Create Your Taste branches, this one is the most disorganized.
The restaurant is rather small and queues are chaotic.
This time I opted for a beefless burger which does not cost any cheaper.
I went bacon mad and mainly got the crispy bacon because the bacon is so crispy and delicious that it felt like eating a bacon bap burger.

Festival Walk is an annoying labyrinth but I managed to find a way of walking to Dolci via the outside of Festival Walk, which seems quicker.
Settled for the Pistachio hot chocolate and apple crumble icecream. The apple crumble icecream was loaded with crumble but less pieces of apple.
I don’t normally drink hot chocolate but the pistachio products at Dolci are a star.
The hot chocolate pistachio version was really nice, because the pistachio was really strong and the drink was thick and rich.

Joyeux noel avec mes copains dans Agnes B

There are not many decent French places on the Kowloon side so I retreated to Agnes B that has other branches in Hong Kong.
It is well hidden in Festival walk because it is camouflaged behind their clothes store.
+++++++
Started off with the assorted platter which had:
Duck foie gras terrine on truffle farm bread, shrimp with truffle caviar, Quail egg wrapped in parma ham, green asparagus, escargot with fries.
 1 讚好

It was a nice savoury assortment and the foie gras terrine was silky and thick.
The escargot was a surprise because it looked like a real escargot shell but the shell was made of crispy wafer so the whole thing was edible and really nice with strong herbs.

Finished with the asparagus, which was crisp and sweet.
+++++++
Then we had the Black truffle cheese fondue which is what you would expect because it was real cheese mixed with wine. To go with the fondue were cubes of ham, chicken, asparagus, bread and quail eggs.
 0 讚好

My favourites were the cubes of ham, asparagus and bread because it goes well with the cheese.
+++++++
For the mains we had Braised beef cheek in port wine truffle sauce which looked really similar to Beef bourguignon.

It was just as nice as Beef bourguignon because the sauce was rich and tasty packed with carrots, pearl onions, mushrooms and leek.
The beef cheek was soft and gelatinous while the sauce just matched in heaven with the bread.
+++++++
We also had a Galette filled with smoked chicken and smoked duck with cherry sauce.
 0 讚好

As well as the visible cherry sauce, there were more delicious sweet cherries in the galette which made the chicken even more appetizing.
++++++++
For desserts we had the Panna cotta with blood orange sauce and truffle icecream.
 0 讚好

The panna cotta was presented in a cute copper saucepan and I liked the way the tartness of the blood orange sauce balanced the sweetness of the panna cotta.
 0 讚好

On the other side of the plate, there was truffle icecream on a bed of truffle jelly cubes.
++++++++
To finish off we had the sparkling Christmas cakes.
Let it snow (ginger chocolate mousse, ginger apricot and cocoa streusel).
 0 讚好

With Love (chestnut mousse, blueberry mousse, almond bread and chocolate chiffon cake).
 0 讚好

Stay together (Chocolate ganache and cocoa crumble).
 1 讚好

My favourite was WITH LOVE because there were lots of different textures and tastes going on.
A cup of Earl grey was needed to go with the cakes and the was imported from France.

Back for more clean and tasty street snacks

As I was in the area, I stopped by for more snacks.
The fishballs were big, soft and springy and the Chinese radishes were sweet.
 0 讚好

Then I tried the peppery balls which were made with stomach and it was surprisingly tasty because it tasted like Vietnamese sausage meat.
 0 讚好

For drinks I had the honey Chrysanthemum tea which was sweet and good for dry throats.
 0 讚好

I didn't try this but my friend said it was nice and chewy just like mochi covered in spicy sauce paired with crispy pieces of fried chicken.

Cute NY style food truck spotted at Festival Walk

When I first heard of this joint I wasn't sure what it was because the name sounded strange.

After seeing photos from fellow foodies, I realized it was a food truck.

The truck is brightly coloured in black and yellow which reminds me of New York and the food boxes are the same style as the US Chinese takeaway boxes with the cute handle.

It was a cold day so I had the mock sharks fin soup and fried fish shaomai.

The fish shaoai was really impressive because they were fried with an airfryer which makes them healthy as only a drop of oil is needed.

The Shaomai was really crispy and delicious.

After that, had the mock sharks fin soup which was really nice especially with the vinegar, white pepper and sesame oil.

The black fungus and tofu skin were really filling.

This is a really good joint for street snacks in a clean and air conditioned environment served in clean dishes with a neat seating area.
