Soba Noodles at KFC Hong Kong

I was at Shun Tak to try this Japanese place but unfortunately I was lured by the something at KFC!
It was the bucket rice combo because it had luncheon meat which is not what you should find at KFC!
On the other poster, there was soba noodles which I thought was there to make the picture look Japanese and they really had it so I ordered that as well.
I made my order through the self service kiosk but when my order was ready, it didn't show up on the screen but luckily I was nearby waiting for it.
To my surprise, the fried chicken was actually good.
The coating was light and the chicken was tender.
The luncheon meat was really good because it had a crispy surface yet it was moist in the middle.
Sadly I tried this at a different branch and had that been my first experience I would have hated it.
Also tried the soba noodles for fun but the ones they serve are the thick ones which isn't my cup of tea.

Will go back anyway because some other branches might be good but I don't recommend Metro City in PoLam

Went here a while ago but since there is already a comment, there wasn't a rush to post mine.
According to their facebook, the owner of the restaurant has changed and so has the menu
Sadly, the English desserts are no longer served.
Had the chicken wings and salad.
The chicken wings were very boring and salty.
The burrata and Heirloom tomato salad with basil leaves was quite good except for the processed cheese strips which degraded the whole thing.

Overall, satisfactory, might return if I am in the area.

I buy muffins from here regularly and it is always good.
Went on a Sunday and that particular staff just has an attitude problem.
Muffins are normally wrapped in a piece of paper before they put them in the bag but this particular lady likes to throw them in the bag and snatches money when you hand over the cash.
Other than that these muffins were perfectly delicious and moist.
The ones I got were the cherry and they were crammed with quite a few pieces of cherry.
Perhaps I bought the ones she wanted at the end of the day so she was in a strop.

Amazake at Bad Ass Stylish Coffee Joint

Discovered this joint a while ago but it was 18:00 so the coffee section was closed.
It is best to go during the week days when it is less busier.
There is also a GOOODS store inside but it seems a no go area as the staff are not welcoming.
I was intending to get a sweets Bento from Gooods but the staff there seemed disinterested when people asked questions about the place.
Twice I went and the service was like that so I only ended up getting a drink from Bad Ass Coffee.

Got the HKD37 AMAZAKE which is a fermented rice drink.
The one they served was non alcoholic.
The smell and taste was a bit strange so I wasn't sure if it was meant to be like that.

I have attempted to try this restaurant many times but without success.
They always seem to be fully booked and do not really open for lunch.
Anyway finally tried it one evening.

Raw Bar No.8 obviously specializes in oysters but as it is the summer I'd rather not risk it after falling sick from some semi cooked oysters recently.

Ordered three dishes: oyster chowder, Fish of the day with lychee sauce and salad.
I ordered the oyster chowder because it was different and it had oyster obviously.
When it came, I was shocked how big the portion was and enough for two.

Basically it was the usual chowder with an oyster plonked in the soup so the soup didn't have any oyster taste to it.
Since the oyster was the star of the show I was expecting a bit more and not just one oyster.

If they intend to put one oyster in that big bowl of soup, I felt that the portion of the soup should have been smaller because less is more.
Next was the fish with lychee sauce.

It was good that the sauce and fish were served separately.
The sauce didn't look like lychee sauce but it was and I believe there was butter in it because you could see a layer of oil.
Overall, I liked the creativity but I didn't dip much of the sauce as it was quite oily.
The salad we had was worth mentioning as it had fennel and orange which go well together.

Overall been here and tried that so might come back in the winter for oysters as I have a sensitive stomach.

Drinks while you're waiting for your laundry
2019-06-17  579 瀏覽
Spotted this joint ages ago so I kept a mental note to try.
Obviously they have coffee and they also serve small bites like cookies and muffins.
At the far back, there is a seating area for people waiting for their laundry or having a drink from here.
As it was a hot day, had an Iced Earl Grey Tea.
I didn't realize it would be sweet by default but luckily it wasn't too sweet.
The notes of Earl Grey were quite fragrant with a touch of bergamot that wasn't too strong.

[Review 7495] Some hits and misses @ Pica Pica

I have always wanted to try PICA PICA but they were not open on Sundays when they newly opened.
Finally went when they were open.

They serve tapas with a modern twist.

From the menu, you can see the modern techniques used like the wagyu tartar topped with apple sorbet and the oyster topped with frozen cherry gazpacho.

Here was what we had:

[Oyster Daniel Sorlut N3 with cherry Gazpacho]
Not really an oyster person but ordered this because of the cherry gazpacho.
Unfortunately, when it came, there were oyster shell fragments on the corner of the oyster yet it had to be eaten quickly because the frozen gazpacho on top was melting fast.
The cherry gazpacho was very refreshing and enhanced the taste of the oyster but I didn't really enjoy it properly knowing I had the shell fragments in my mouth.
The oyster was still attached to the shell when I took it out which made it extremely difficult to brush the shell fragments aside.

Wagyu Beef steak Tartare with Apple Sorbet:
Ordered this because it was wagyu beef steak and the fact that it had apple sorbet on top which makes it different from other restaurants.
It was quite nice with a sweet touch from the apple sorbet which I did not find tangy enough.

Lamb Neck with Chimmichurri on Aubergine:
Apart from the bed of oil, I loved this dish because the lamb was so tender laced with middle Eastern spices like cumin and it was served on a bed of aubergine which tasted like eggplant dip.
The pieces of lamb had quite a bit of fat attached so about 20% of it was fat and the dish was rather salty in general.

Fideua from Gandia with Cuttlefish and alioli:
Compared to other Fideua dishes I have tried, I found it too oily and too crispy for my liking.

Catalan Cream Foam, Vanilla Ice Cream:
Finished with the dessert which was so damn good, the foam texture was really heavenly.
The only thing I didn't like was the biscuit base and the caramelized finishing.

I normally avoid lunch hours for lunch if I can but was meeting a friend here for lunch.

Chose this place as I haven't tried it.
The dishes are reasonably priced at HKD4x for 3 choices.

The choices are as seen by the window so I chose sweet and sour, sweetcorn mountain yam and Taiwanese three cups chicken.

All three were equally as good.
The mountain yam was surprisingly tasty.
My favourite was the sweet and sour as it was nice and tangy.
The Taiwanese choice was quite filling as it was a lot of potatoes while the basil was nice and strong.
Will be back soon.

[Review 7480] Go for the seafood, not the pasta @ Trattoria del Pescatore Hong Kong

Trattoria del Pescatore is a must go restaurant for quality seafood but we ordered the pastas which turned out to be a complete disaster!
Started with the bread which was simply amazing.
I loved the balsamic vinegar for the bread because it was different.
The consistency of it was like thick sauce.
Started with the pistachio crusted scallop which was slightly overdone and it was quite oily at the bottom.

Next was the romanesco, again it was quite oily at the bottom.
The reason I ordered the pasta was the Bottarga and Salmon Roe.
Had it changed to Angel Hair but I didn't expect them to over cook it.
The angel hair was so soft that the strands stuck together and they lacked elasticity and broke.
Again, there was so  much oil dripping from it.
I was more confused when I told the guy the pasta was too soft and he said that's right because I requested for angel hair instead of linguine.
But as a chef, different pastas have different cooking times which I thought they would know.

Finished with the apple tart which was just the usual served with a scoop of icecream.

Dinner finished with a shot of Mirtle and cheese.
Overall, I don't recommend the pastas so go for the seafood.
The only reason I had pasta was the bottarga.
