Taiwanese and Shanghai fare

When one wants to eat Taiwanese food and the other wants to eat Shanghai food then come here!
At first I thought it was a Taiwanese restaurant but they serve Shanghai style dumplings as well.
Started with the Beef noodles and the beef was soft and full of flavour.

My friend had the Taiwanese mince with rice where you can choose some unusual combinations such as fried luncheon meat.

The Taiwanese Oyster omelette turned out to be the star of the show.
When it came, it looked overdone but I was surprised it was crisp and airy without being oily despite its dark brown colour.

The rest of the snacks we had:

For dessert the Cincao (Taiwanese grass jelly) somehow tasted like the Chinese grass jelly from the can.

Last but not least, the tea was pleasing.

[Review 6556] Chocolate Milk at [Cameo's Kitchen] @ 臨記 Cameo's Kitchen

Cameo's Kitchen specializes in Eggettes and Waffles but these are not my thing so I decided to get a milkshake.
There were four flavours: Banana, Chocolate, Vanilla and Strawberry.
Decided to give it a try because they said it was blended with icecream.
When it came, there were bits of chocolate in it and the texture was slushy at the bottom and slightly watery at the top.
The taste was quite good as it wasn't too sweet and I liked the bits of chocolate.

This is just the joint for people who like grilled food.
Located in Tinhau, it is conveniently close to the MTR.
My favourite happened to be the ribs which were tender and came off the bone easily with a strong cumin bbq taste.

The beef cubes were are juicy and tasted good with a dash of salt.

The fried platter was different, there were fried duck tongues which were crispy but quite bony.

The mushrooms were a bit bitter though.

The scallops were stuffed with uni to give it that extra creaminess.

I always come here for my dandan noodle fix because the noodles are just right and not too soft with a strong peanut taste in the broth.
The jellyfish here is healthy as it is paired with Chinese radish and it is not oily. Also had the Wuxi ribs which had a punchy sweet and sour taste.
The dumplings are good because I love the way the broth is crystal clear and oil-less that I end up drinking it.
Had two different ones, a vegetable one and a pork one.
The vegetable one was really tasty because the vegetable one is made with the filling that you find in the steamed Shanghai veg bun.
While the pork one had a nice crunch from the siutongchoi vegetable.

Finished with the prune drink, a classic Shanghainese drink which has a smoky taste.

For crab lovers, they are going to like this buffet because they have lots of crab related dishes.
My favourite was the typhoon shelter noodles which are aromatic topped with crispy garlic and black bean bits. Each strand is evenly flavoured.

Seafood delights:

It was good they had congee because I felt like having congee, you can have it with seafood but I had mine plain because it was tasty on its own.

They had marinated delights as well.

Save room for dessert because they have silky tofu, icecream, fried icecream etc but I liked the automatic pancake maker the most.

It slides out warm and soft pancakes.

I love Indian food but not many places on the HK side offers vegetarian food.At Haveli they have my favourite Idi and Vada so I got the platter which has both of them and the dosa.
The Idi and Vada was as good as anticipated because I like starchy tastes.

My next favourite was the Tandoori mushrooms which had strong flavours and they used quality button mushrooms which were juicy.

For mains I had the paneer bhurji and lemon rice.
Both were satisfying because I just love bhurji.

[Review 6106] Menu is slightly diff to Whampoa @ 早安越南 Chao Chao

I went here because I saw avocado milkshake but unfortunately this item and some others are only available at the Whampoa branch.
Anyway, decided to stay for the food anyway.
The beef with red rice was ok but the rice lacked tomato flavour and it was just fried rice.
The salted lemon drink was just the usual, ie a salty lemon plonked in water, so it was salty.

The Danang noodles with black glass vermicelli was my favourite and I am so glad I ordered it because the broth tastes a bit like Tomyum but much better because it has basil leaves which make it very fragrant and it does not have those annoying lemongrass leaves.

For some strange reason, more Taiwanese shops are opening up again.Discovered this place because this Taiwanese lady was on Electric road yelling in Tawanese about this new joint which later turns out to be the lady who works there.

The drinks selection was really good because they had Earl Grey Taiwanese style hot or cold drinks to choose from.
Both tasted great because I just love Earl Grey.

The beef noodles are worth trying because the broth is strong and there are lots of carrots and white radish in it.

The rice vermicelli was a little different to what I was expecting because the strands were thick and not the thin ones I normally come across. The soup was a little bland as well.
The fried chicken was ok but a bit salty.

Tried to get lamb pilaf again at Northpoint but discovered they had moved here so came here for it.
Had the lamb pilaf which was fragrant and hot topped with lamb and carrots.
Also had lamb skewers which was fantastic with the pilaf rice because it was well seasoned with a crispy surface.
The meat was lean and tender.
Finished with the lamb soup which was light flavoured by the sweetness of the onions and the lamb was not gamey.

Modern Sichuan food

I love Sichuan food so I have tried quite a few restaurants in this chain.
It can get quite confusing because the Chinese name of the restaurants all start with 12 flavours...... In English, it is slightly better because they have different names, eg Andy's chili party, Emma's... and Clinton's ......

Went here for lunch so had a lunch set and some other items.
The fish in chili oil was delicious because I just love that numbing fragrant Sichuan pepper taste yet it is not spicy.
The fish was a bit too silky because it kept falling from my chopsticks and breaking into smaller pieces when it fell on the plate, so it was too silky to eat.
Anyway, when I managed to get it in my mouth, the fish was divine.
The chicken with lime and Sichuan peppercorns was presented like a Thai Salad but again it was refreshing with a Sichuan taste to it because of the spices.

For snacks, I had the grilled chicken claws and wings.

Finished with the fried milk which was amazing because it was perfectly fried in fresh oil with creamy milk pudding in the middle that was not too sweet. There is condensed milk given but I didn't need it.
