[Review 113] Flimsy floppy egg tarts @ V8美食軒

Date reviewed on openrice: 24/08/2008

Tried the egg tarts at 3.5 dollars each.
Not worth the price, as you end up eating 60% of the tart.
Where did the rest go?
The flimsy, floppy tart is not rigid at all, so floppy that its pastry sticks to the foil tin.

[Review 112] Nice Clean Restaurant @ 越南人 Le Deesse De Vietnam

Date reviewed on openrice: 20/04/2008

A newly furnished little restaurant in the busy streets of Mong Kok.
Limited seating, but overall, it was pleasant and clean.

All the staff were polite and well mannered except for the manager in black, I merely enquired if one of their dishes was hot, and the response i got, was just " well, its just Vietnamese rice noodle with chicken fillet"

I can see that from the menu, i dont need them to repeat what I said, my question was only asking whether it was spicy or not!!

Anyway the food was good, nice and lemoney, and the chicken was juicy. It was good that the chilli was separated from the main dish.

[Review 110] Dumplings @ 御品軒 Sino Receipe

Date reviewed on openrice 17/04/2008

I have always wanted to go in this restaurant, because of the attractive interior and front.
A little different in urban causeway bay, especially the back of causeway bay, facing the World trade centre.

Before going in, it heavily promoted is dumplings and milk dessert.

So we ordered the scallop dumplings, and prawn and bamboo pith dumplings. We wanted to order the abalone ones, but were told they were sold out.

The dumplings were surprisingly better than expected. The scallop one had a hole scallop wrapped inside. Hence would have expected the same for the abalone one (most probably a mini abalone inside).

The the dessert was good too, not too sweet.
The milk dessert was the best, the top had curded milk, not too creamy which was good.

The mango with crystal noodles was also good, not too sweet, but hard to eat with a spoon.

[Review 109] Allow one hour for food @ Home Place Cafe

Date reviewed on openrice: 14/04/2008

OK, if your trying to date someone, but cannot find the right words, here is the ideal place!!!

This is because the food takes forever to arrive, so if you didn't pluck up the courage to demand for your order, you can still sit there and stare dreamily at your dates eyes!!!

Now to the real issue, we were a group of 10 people and ordered 10 set meals from their menu, mostly pasta's and lasagne.
The drinks came reasonably quick, but the waitress should have clarified what they were.
The strawberry tea, tasted really nice, not too syrupy, balanced nicely with the tea.

We waited an hour, nothing came, so we said we waited for an hour, and the waitress said that was normal. Then she finally brought a bowl of pasta, and after another 20 minutes another bowl would be brought over.
The food didn't come all at once, so we were watching each other eat their food, one by one.
We believe that they only had one oven, since they didn't answer us when we asked them.
The lasagne tasted good, just the standard pre-made lasagne you would find anywhere.

[Review 108] sooooooooo noisy @ 北京水餃皇 Peking Shui Jiao Wong

Date reviewed on openrice: 14/04/2008

Went there for lunch, and ordered the tofu with spring onions because it looked delicious from the poster.

Turned out it was delicious, also ordered the bean thread noodle soup with egg and tomato, no tomato taste whatsoever..

Lastly the lamp and celery dumpling were ok.

Although the food is ok, I don't think I will eat in next time, too noisy, and the staff are arguing.

[Review 107] Confusing Pricing @ 皇后餅店 Queen's Konditorei

Date reviewed on openrice: 02/04/2008

I rarely give negative ratings, but this place is simply confusing, firstly it would appear that the cakes are clearly priced in the cabinet, however when you sit down and order, they are more expensive.

I think there should be a notice or a tag stating the takeaway price and eat in price.

Also the tea set is quite stupid too, the customer gets a choice of pastry and a cake and tea.
But the pastry choices are not listed, how are you supposed to choose? Random, or whatever comes to mind?

Although the cake selection is good, I will not come back until there is a clear pricing.
