[Review 120] Tofu in "lo shui" sauce @ 阿鴻小吃 Hung's Delicacies

Date reviewed on openrice: 17/05/2008

I had already had lunch that day, but accidentallywalked past this place which I was going to try someday.
Anyway I went in, and tried the "lo Shui" tofu, something light that I could eat, wanted to try the mustard chicken feet too, but was too full.

The tofu was drenched in lots of sauce, and the tofu was quite well soaked up with the sauce, so the tofu did have some lo shui flavour in it.
In places where they are not done properly, you can taste a strong tofu aftertaste and not much of the sauce. The sauce was quite savory too, I think it must have been used to marinate the meat first then the tofu.

[Review 119] A very satisfying meal for a big stomach @ Devil's Advocate

Date reviewed on openrice: 14/05/2008

We went there for lunch, and sat at the table facing the road on a coolish summer's day, warm and breezy, just the way to relax.

On the daily menu offered, there was for starters: French onion soup/Tuna Salad.
Main dish: chicken with pasta/pork chops with potatoes.
Drink: soft drinks (refillable)

Anyway ordered both set lunches and the starters.
Was served bread with butter.
The soup was a small ball, probably because french onion soup is rich in general.
As for the Tuna Salad starter, it was served in a big bowl, with appetizing contents not just some large bowl with not much inside it.
The salad was drenched generously in dressing, and there was a reasonable amount of tuna in it smile {the size u would get for main dish in some stingy place!!]

As for the main dish, the pasta was rich and creamy.
The pork chop was ok, a good enough portion to fill me up
The salad impressed me the most, so I am not so bothered with the main.

[Review 118] 大食代 Food Republic

Date reviewed on openrice: 12/05/2008

Ordered the chicken rice hainan style, was very impressed was the presentation, quite a generous amount of lean chicken. Some places that serve this dish like to put bones and fat underneath and put chicken on top so that it looks like a big portion.
Other places like to serve fatty chicken or chicken bones.

Anyway the sauces were self service.

The taste of the chicken could have been better, it was rather dry.
Other than that, it is ok

[Review 117] Not as good as Belgos in London @ Belgos East Mussels & More

Date reviewed on openrice 12/05/2008

Initially I was really looking forward to my dinner at Belgos, however the food wasnt that great. The mussels which are a signature dish of Belgos didnt taste good.

They are not as fresh as the ones serves in UK, even the mussels at Baby Blue taste richer and fresher.

The table we were allocated was too small, and the waitress didnt know where to put the dishes, so I suggested to move tables, but in the end they added an extra table.

The mayonnaise that came with the fries were such a tiny amount, after dipping two or three chips, it was gone, so had to ask for more. The chips were over cooked too.

[Review 116] Refreshingly light @ HUSK

Date reviewed on openrice 28/04/2008

Nicely decorated restaurant, set out like an overseas thai place.
Dimmed lighting with spacious food court seating.

Ordered some satay, salad rice, and cant remember, but in general, everything was well balanced and light.

The best thing I liked was Pandan leaves tea, and pandan drink, both delicately flavoured, with natural leaves.
The tea tasted like light chinese tea, but with the scent of Pandan leaves.
The iced pandan drink had a stronger pandan taste which was sweetened too.

[Review 115] Tasteless ramen @ 銀座蔵人 Ginza Kurando

Date reviewed on openrice: 28/04/2008

Went with friends on a weekday for lunch,
many set lunches for around $6x including side dish, main dish and drink.

The sushi came as it appeared on the menu, so did the main dishes. In general, the food was ok, however the ramen was tasteless, so after adding the soy sauce from the sushi, it enhanced it.

The tea was good, western tea, however my fd complained about his coke, saying it tasted different.

[Review 114] Snacks @ The Pawn

Date reviewed on openrice 24/04/2008

Went there for the opening of TIME-OUT magazine.

Nice decor, in an old building, basically it was a party, so light snacks and finger buffet food was served.

Standard drinks.
