[Review 155] Tasty curry beef belly dolls noodles @ 輕鬆一下 Relax Restaurant

Date reviewed on openrice 0707/2008

Practically not many places were open for breakfast, so I came here.
I did worry I would get food poisoning, because I saw them just heat up the food.
Indeed I did get food poisoning!!

Anyway I ordered fish siumai and dolls noodles with curry beef belly, the noodles were good, soaked up with curry sauce very well, and the siumai was good too, not too soft.
I only ate a few pieces of the beef since it had just been heated up.

[Review 154] heavy dessert afternoon @ Best Berry

07/07/2008

I had a photo shoot in Kwai Hing, so I thought I’d try Best Berry after trying Berrygood last time.
Before going, I had an expectation the yoghurt would be similar to BerryGood.

When I got there, the choice of toppings was less than Berry good, but there were more cake and some lunch sets.
In busy Kwai Hing, this café on the isolated corner of the mall is a good place to chat or sit for a while.
However the tables are not big enough, a lot of people were combining tables to make the table space bigger for all the desserts and cakes.

We ordered 3 sets:
Set 1: cheesecake and coffee.
Set 2: Original yoghurt cake, Yoghurt with blueberry sauce, and Yoghurt shake (berry flavour)
Set 3: Strawberry yoghurt cake, Yoghurt with a choice of three toppings, and coffee.

The cheesecake is just an ordinary cheesecake, but the original yoghurt cake was good, a big piece square cake, a thin layer of yoghurt cream on top of the cake, if there was more yoghurt cream in proportion to cake it would taste better, as the cake was too sweet.
As for the strawberry yoghurt cake, it tasted ok, enough yoghurt in proportion to the cake, but the size was smaller compared to the original one. The yoghurt is slightly too sweet.

The drinks were a bit sweet, and I think the set was a bit too heavy, too sickly.
Overall I think I prefer Berry Good, a much lighter option.

[Review 153] I am still hungry @ Délifrance

Date reviewed on openrice 05/07/2008

The Delifrance here is very big, many seats.

Anyway came here for breakfast, there are so many choices.
Even the bakery selection is huge and innovative.

I ordered the breakfast set including the standard croissant and tea, and chose sausages and scrambled eggs.
Although the croissant wasn't heated up, it tasted good, the sausages are just plain frankfurter ones, and the scrambled egg tasted good, but such a small portion.

It cost me $22 which is very cheap, however the portion is tiny.

I will try other stuff next time such as baked egg.

[Review 152] singmalay part 5 @ 巴沙新加坡小品 Pasar Singaporean Flavour

Date reviewed on openrice 04/07/2008

Ok I think this is my third time eating in a Singaporean restaurant.

So I am just trying out to see which one so far is the best.

Ordered fried quay teo, Prawn noodles (vermicelli) and pandan cake, barley water and salted lemon drink.
In my opinion i think the food here is a little over priced in comparison with the other two i've tried.

Fried quay teo: tasted ok , reasonable portion size.
Prawn noodles: the soup base didnt have much prawn taste, just peppery.
Also it didnt have a big prawn like Katong, considering it was priced more than Katong.

The drinks were ok, the barley water tastes better than katong, not so strong.

Although the Pandan cake doesn't taste so good, it was the best, quite a big portion for $28 dollars. Tasted like Pandan but I thought there was too much egg taste in it.

[Review 151] Really really good instant noodles in tomato sauce @ 口福小廚

date reviewed on openrice 04/07/2008

I was attracted to this little restaurant by its simple banner and tomato soup base.

Anyway i ordered a bowl of instant noodles in tomato soup base with fish belly.
For people who dont like tomato, there is fish soup base too.

The noodles tasted just right, not too soft and not too hard, and nice and tangy in the tomato sauce. I really liked the tomato soup base, tasted natural.
In addition there were two tofu puffs in the soup.

The fish belly that came with it was tender, and there was an extra dish if soy sauce for dipping, and a spare plate to put the bones.
I really liked that arrangement, not too messy as I could dispose of the bones on the plate.
Apart from fish belly, there are many other choices, including, fish head, fish balls, fried eggs, chicken wings etc.

[Review 150] Nice cosy little place @ 小飛象葡國燒烤餐廳 Little Flying Elephant Portuguese Restaura

Date reviewed on openrice 04/07/2008

We came here on a late Friday, and the restaurant is only half full.
A good place to settle down for a big group of people who just want to eat and chat.

The restaurant is beautifully decorated, almost vintage, and it feels like you’re in a different country.

Food wise, it is quite cheap, after ordering numerous dishes, it worked out around 80 dollars per person.

Ordered:
Fried potato balls
Portuguese curry chicken
Lamb chops
Duck in vinegar sauce
Broccoli in Portuguese sauce
Ox-tail in wine sauce
Pasta in white sauce

The potato balls tasted a bit dry, but the ketchup made up for it, inside it contained bacon pieces, cheese.
Portuguese curry chicken tasted spicy, and had a coconut flavour to it.
The lamb chop were tender and juicy, originally wanted the chicken legs, but they were sold out.
Duck in vinegar sauce was confused with the ox-tail because of the colour, but the duck tasted alright.
Broccoli was a bit undercooked.
Ox-tail was good, strong in wine.
Pasta was good too.

Finally we had the cane and carrot drink, which was really nice, not too sweet, and you can taste it is boiled purely from those ingredients.

[Review 149] Interesting bakery @ 39℃ BAKERY

Date reviewed on openrice 04/07/2008

Its worth visiting, not just for food, but generally looking at their bakery, black bread, purple bread! The shop is called 39C, it makes u think of body temp but a few degrees higher so you would except a warm feeling, however its cool blue in design, so quite contradictory, yet it gives u a cool image.

Again another chain of QQ Rice, as they use purple rice, charcoal, as main ingredients.
Anyway I got the little cups of desserts from the fridge, cheesecake and milk pudding,
quite tiny, but quite cheap.
The milk pudding tastes the same as the one from QQ rice, had a soy taste in it rather than milk. Sort of like a hard jelly.
As for the cheesecake, the sponge at the bottom was pink, a bit unusual, but tasted ok.
