Out of the blue, saw people queuing, so noticed a shop here selling Taiwanese drinks.
As it is the only shop on that side of the road selling drinks at a reasonable price, I think it should do quite well, from people waiting to get the buses to people from the Southern playground.

The overall shop decor was impressive, clean and slick. The drinks list was clear and easy to read, the best thing was, it had English. The choice is quite wide, and you can choose the sweetness of the drink too.

There was quite a range of things you can add in your drinks too such as Aiyu jelly, pearls, Aloe Vera, Grass Jelly, Brown sugar jelly, Tri colored konjac jelly, Coffee jellys and capsules filled with liquid chocolate, coffee, or fruit.

Anyway ordered the Taro tea and added sugar jelly to it.
Tasted Ok, the milk was made from milk powder, and the brown sugar jelly tasted as it should.

[Review 334] Japanese kanten 寒天 @ Hui Lau Shan 許留山 (灣仔)

After trying black sugar kanten in various desserts, I fell in love with the chewy dark brown jelly.

Kanten is the Japanese word for 寒天 meaning cold weather (according to Wikipedia).

I ordered the White snow with Kanten, which is just basically dessert tofu, mango pieces and mango sauce and Kanten.
I have a hatred for Asian mangoes, or to be more specific, amber coloured ones (phillipine ones). I only eat Puerto Rico mangoes, the one with a greenish/reddish skin.

Anyway, the dessert was presented nicely, I spooned some tofu with the jelly, and just a tiny bit of mango sauce, it tasted really good as expected. The bean taste in the tofu took away that nasty mango taste. The jelly was nice and chewy.

After a while, my mouth got a bit numb and couldn't really taste anything.

I rarely go to HLS, only when they have some hard to resist desserts/snacks, the last time I came was for the pancakes and curry sauce. It is not the sort of place I would go as I dont eat the traditional chinese desserts, and mangoes put me off from coming, so does watermelons, and the usual Hongkie stuff. So I wonder, what is the next dessert/snack that will make me visit again.

[Review 333] As good as TsuiWah @ 味皇魚蛋粉 (灣仔)

May Wong has a higher standard than most of the HK style cafes.

The quality can almost match that of Tsui Wah, except the variety is not as diverse as Tsui Wah.
Tsui Wah has more sophisticated dishes such as Ox Tail in red wine sauce, noodles made of tofu.

Although the dishes here are much simpler, they have very good combinations such as the thick noodles with soft pork bone and fried fish patty. Their drinks also make them unique, such as the green tea with Jelly, adds some fun to it, rather than the boring standard drinks, such as Tea, Coffee, Lemon tea etc.

The noodle set I ordered came with Organic beanshoots, making it a balanced meal of meat, carbohydrates and vegetables. The portion of beanshoots was quite decent too, a bowl of beanshoots in soup with strong sesame oil seasoning.

[Review 332] For people in a rush with no expectations @ Ada 美食廣場

Ada 美食廣場 11/7/2009
灣仔柯布連道 4A-C號香江大廈地下
G/F, Hong Kong Building, 4A-C O'Breen Road, Wan Chai

I never intended to try food from this place, firstly I rarely get food from street stalls, they tend to be so dirty and the staff are not that friendly. I feel that they are more concerned on customer turnover than service or quality.

Anyway, I decided to give it a try on a quiet Saturday, ordered the rice rolls with spring onions and dried shrimps.

Obviously the staff, are not good with the sauce, or care how they give it to their customers, sauce was all over the bag, on the top of the lid too, so I got sauce all over the table.
I really don't know why people can get food from these places.

Anyway, there were bits of black stuff in the rice rolls, they were too soft.
The rice roll texture was not smooth, but lumpy and porous.

[Review 331] Veggie burger @ Delaney's Wanchai (灣仔)

I am now on a second burger craving since last year.

At Delaney’s I have tried almost everything, from roast, fish and chips, Irish pancakes, and now the Veggie Burger.

Served with potato wedges, or Jacket potato, the Veggie patty is coated in fine breadcrumbs, with mashed bits of broccoli, potato, slight cheese, and carrot shreds.
When it came, the patty looked huge, due to a pocket of hot air that expanded during the process of being deep-fried. I deflated it with my fork. However the burger was still piping hot, so beware.

The potato wedges were a bit dry and over cooked. The veggie burger was ok, the patty contents were soft and creamy, only the coating had been overdone. Slightly too greasy.

[Review 330] Yummy chips @ Burger Mix

Again I was drawn to this place because of chips, not the chips itself, but the cheese sauce, not the melted cheese type, but a smooth runny cheddar sauce.

I like various styles of chips, especially poutine, gravy and chips, curry sauce and chips.

Anyway the chips here and the sauce complemented each other very well. Firstly the chips were light golden yellow, and not too burnt, giving it a crispy skin with a nice and soft starchy centre.
The oil was fresh, hence there was no foul taste in it.
The sauce was nice and runny, and salty enough to flavor the chips.
It reminds me of the American Cheese sauce, shown on the pic, but not as thick as that, and the sauce here does not go thick after a while.

I was a bit hesitant in trying outside food bars due to the hot weather, but the chips were hot, but not piping hot, and they were ready very quickly too, so either they had been done for a while.

I wanted to try the burgers, but there wasn’t a comfortable environment to eat.

Price wise, I thought the fries were a bit expensive, just a small cup, but since the quality was so good, I thought it was worth it. Comparing the cost of fries and their burgers, they both cost around $1X so if you are ordering burgers and adding additional fries, it would be a better deal.

In the distant future, when the weather cools down, I will probably try their burgers, mainly because the reviews say the patty is thin, and also the cheese sauce is good.
Apart from the tuna burger I had at Freshness, I believe this is the second place in HK that serves it, but only for breakfast/afternoon periods.

The menu saids you can choose the fillings, sauce, but it didnt say what sauces they had, so I am guessing the usual tomato, cheese, mustard etc.

Even if food is not an option, the drinks would be an option to me, Grape smoothie sounds interesting, Apple honey, and exciting sodas such as Peach, Strawberry.

The price for the sodas are quite reasonable too for $10. The smoothies are also quite cheap for $15 too, usually they are at least $30 or more. They even have milkshake too, but not sure what standard they are.

I hope next time I visit, their fries are still at that standard, not overcooked, and their frying oil is kept fresh.

[Review 329] Cuttlefish burger @ Toppings (北角)

Thanks to Babedolphin, found out they do cuttlefish burgers, so went to try that.
Since they moved, this is my first visit to the new location.
All in all, it is much better, very spacious and more hygienic.

The cuttlefish patty is also hand made by them too. Inside the cuttlefish patty, it contained bits of sweetcorn, and to my amazement I found some caraway seeds that gave it some texture and spice to it.

Everything is the same as before, you can choose the toppings and sauce yourself.

Still the same good old staff.
