肯德基家鄉雞 (KFC) Kentucky Fried Chicken

Just felt like having KFC, so got the new Mega burger, the one with chicken, egg salad, bacon and a choice of sauce.
Got two sets, one with criss cut fries, egg tart, chicken hot shots, picnic bite sized bar, chicken wings and drink.
Ordered two Mega burgers one with barbecue sauce and one with Tangy cheese sauce.
The chicken in the burger was not that dry, still soft and tender, the complaint being it was warm, not hot at all, so it had probably been cooked for a while.
Also from their promotional pictures, there is lots of sauce, but in the real thing there was only one tiny splodge in the centre same with the egg salad. The chicken was only half the size of the bun.
Their hygiene should also be improved, because the table cloth they used to wipe the table was smelly, which really puts you off.

[Review 483] 16/10/2009 Interesting shop @ 撈麵王
撈麵王
灣仔謝斐道155號地下D2舖
Shop D2, G/F, 155 Jaffe Road, Wan Chai
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/interesting-little-shop-e2037065
I first noticed this shop when I saw their shop name meaning King of noodles in sauce, so got a leaflet but was not tempted to pay a visit, because the noodles are just the same ones and choice from other noodle joints, and the topping are also the same such as beef brisket, pork liver, chicken wings, fish balls, ham etc, nothing special which I hadn’t tried before.
The appearance of the shop is not attractive at all, but the staff looked a bit out of place, prettier and neater than the shop, in fact I felt they looked a bit like office people, the one that takes the order.
The shop is very small, and it was quite cute there was one table behind the counter, with only one customer eating inside!
There were also some interesting bottled sauces on the table, but couldnt see what they were, but not the common ones.
I ordered the pan fried dover sole with Maggie sauce, it literally is what it is, pieces of dover sole and a separate bag of Maggie sauce. A bit different to what I thought it was, especially when you compare it to the Maggie steak at Sun Chu Koon.
The portion of fish was big, more than the portion of rice, I think the fish portion was one whole doversole in the box. The rice was a little too hard, and the fish was too soft from the marinade. Although it was frozen fish, but acceptable to have it once in a while.
The meal also came with a drink, a bonus to the locals as they have bottled soy milk and Common selfheal fruit spike.

[Review 482] 16/10/2009 Yummy Pancakes @ Spaghetti House 意粉屋

Spaghetti house is not my usual pick for pasta and pizza, because their branches and locations is a bit off radar.
Anyway, went to this one which is located right in front of a bus stop with long queues of people waiting for the bus, so you need to get past the people to enter the door.
I ordered the afternoon tea set, but couldn’t find the apple pie advertised prominently on their tea set menu cover, only available a la carte. I supposed it would be cheaper to just order the a la carte since I didn’t like the drinks.
Ordered the Squid ink rice with pork chops and apple, and the pancakes with peach and syrup.
The squid ink rice was very good, each grain of rice was distinct, and similar to the Japanese pearl rice, there was bits of fruit on top too, and melted processed cheese.
The pancakes were perfect too, haven’t had a decent pancake for along time, especially the Jif lemon ones, everything was the right sweetness too.

[Review 481] 14/10/2009 King Parrot does the Job @ 香辣屋 Chilli N Spice

Chilli n Spice is a subsidiary of the King Parrot group, the restaurants I have tried from King Parrot group are ok, so this one was ok too.
Ordered the set, which includes soup, starters, rice and a choice of two mains and dessert.
Crabmeat and sweetcorn soup:
Slightly different to what I expected, the soup had lots of onions, and it tasted like watery A La King sauce, I think ingredients were a bit weird together, onions and sweetcorn.
The crabmeat was not cooked together with the soup, but topped on the surface of the soup as a final touch, so don’t expect a lot of crab meat.
Starters:
Chicken satay was skewered with thigh meat, so it was tender, the peanut sauce was slightly sweet.
Crunchy garlic butter chicken wings, were crunchy as stated, however the garlic wasn’t that strong, the butter was just right, not sickly and oily as the famous Vietnamese one in Causeway bay.
Katong beef: Strong in coconut and lemongrass flavour, but not spicy at all.
Steamed fish with sauce: the fish was rather big, so the fish was slightly coarse. It was scaled properly, so you only need to watch out for the bones.
Red bean dessert and coffee dessert, both these were agar based, and I am not a keen fan for these, I just found it too sweet.
If the dishes arrived in order such as starters then the mains, then it would be better, as the fish arrived first.

Not surprised it is not listed in OR, as it dosnt offer much.
I think the crowd would have directly gone to Sxxxxxx de France or the new Japanese bread one.
The drink selection is mainly coffee, the tea is only Lemon tea, for those who are do not drink coffee, will find it hard to accompany coffee lovers unless the other drinks are ok for them.
I found only one cake that attracted me to this shop, the strawberry chocolate cake with the appearance of a black forest cake, however its size is rather small.
Hopefully there will be more choice in the future.

When I go for vegetarian food in Wanchai, people will assume it is this restaurant, however I finally found out this was the one they were mentioning about.
It seems popular in Wanchai for the local Chinese, but it didn’t really appeal to me to try, but today I was slightly hungry, so just grabbed a quick snack to try.
I got the char siu roll, looking a bit like a sausage roll.
I thought the pastry was slightly too thick in proportion to what was inside, the intimation pork was slight hard and a bit like dry chewy hard plastic.
The taste was acceptable but not delicious.

Noticed on their menu the white grass jelly, so finally tried it, apparently it is meant to good for your respiratory, the owner said it was made of fruit, and a high source of fibre.
I got a bowl to take away, it was nice the syrup was a separate tub, I tried it without the sweetener and the jelly itself had a faint taste of sweetness, the appearance of the jelly was not white, it was crystal clear. The texture of the jelly was like grass jelly, although slightly chewier than grass jelly.
