Made an effort to get up for breakfast, luckily the truffle and egg has been a popular pick for the locals, so it has been on the Ala Carte for a while.

I really did not expect anything for the truffle to taste like the real thing, but just wanted to give it a try. The real truffle is very expensive, so I do not expect Fairwood to offer the expensive stuff, same as Pizzahut, so it seems there is a low grade version or truffle essence or oil is used for the cheaper end of the market.

Anyway, ordered the set with chicken steak and gravy, toast and freshly grounded coffee.
The coffee had lovely white froth covering it. I do not drink coffee, but that coffee was good, no sour taste to it, and the milk was just right. The chicken was also good, the skin was crispy.
Then the egg was just scrambled with finely chopped mushrooms on the top mimicking the truffle, with truffle oil on top.
For people who have not experienced truffle before, there is a slight hint of truffle to it, but for experienced trufflers, it is not that pungent.

Kwai Hing industrial area has the worst selection for good food, the food variety is mainly the Chinese cafe's or lunch boxes.
The price range is reasonable for this area, but the quality is so-so, there seems to be a lot of variety on their menu, but the waiting environment is not that good, so usually you are forced to get lunch boxes.
The only stuff that is reasonably good to eat is the Roast selection, the guy with the bushy eyebrows is quite helpful, not sure if he is still working there now!
The bakery corner is not that good, and the drinks selection is rather boring too!

From the shop interior, logo and menu design it seems the company is set out to be successful, they even have a good website too, with menu, prices and highlight.

As you enter the shop, its too good to be true in an isolated part of town, the tables look good, but as you walk to the far end of the restaurant it starts getting smelly and dirty, even the seat had sauce on it. We were also sitting right next to the kitchen, so I will not order chicken from them, especially when it is at ground level!!!

The variety on the menu was quite good, from noodles, crystal noodles, steamed fishes, steamed rices, and even dim sum.

I probably made the wrong choice today, nothing tasted right, the Laksa instant noodles with soft pork bone didnt have any laksa taste, the pork bone was tasteless. As for the curry, it was so bad, i could have cooked it, it was translucent and watery. The curry is meant to be Hoi Nam style, but plain crap.

Anyway just felt that its a weird place to open a restaurant here, and the staff are probably locals.
Next time I will probably try the steamed fishes and sit as far away from the smelly kitchen as possible!

Last time I wrote a review, it got approved but not classified as a food review.

This time I came and tried the SICILIAN CASSATA, although it is not the authentic version as Babedolphin saids, I quite liked it, I have not tried the real thing hence I can't compare it to anything,
I felt there was a name confusion, the wrapper saids Bindi (reminds me of okra and the Indian Bindi dish, probably Bindi is the makers of the dessert).
Unwrapping the dessert reminded me of unwrapping butter, wrapped in tracing paper.
The dessert was distinctly sliced with a layer of yellow, brown, and the centre looking like tutti fruitti nougat. The whole thing tasted quite good, not two sweet, also the bitterness of the chocolate balanced out the sweetness. If the orange peel was replaced with bits of orange I thought it would have tasted better.
The edge of the ice-cream was like dehydrated ice-cream, hard and chewy.

[Review 506] 28/10/2009 Second time trying Flipino food @ Mang Ambos

Finally found a quiet time to try this place, Filipino food is rather new to me, the last time I tried it was at Jolibee but that is commercialized Filipino food. I tried the pork with pork blood gravy, pork with squid and this vegetable dish.

The pork with blood gravy was rather smelly at first, but the gravy was nice, with little curds of blood in it, some of the pork was soft, some was dry.
The vegetable dish looked strong in taste from its sauce and colour, but it was quite gentle, there was dab of some red stuff, which turned out to be salty garlic and dried shrimp, probably to give the vegetables some flavour.

Overall, the food was Ok, felt a bit like school, served in those trays.

Located at the basement of Empire hotel, with tiled floors, there was quite a good variety of food for their buffet.

Most of the food was sushi, salad and chinese dim-sums.

I reckon as it was lunch time, it was mainly dim-sums and salad, there was not much hot food.

There was a reasonable selection of cold meats.

Although it has more branches than Tony Roma's, the ribs at Tony Roma's are much better.

The ribs are tender, but do not come off the bones easily.
The rest of the sides are just ok, such as the coleslaw and egg salad.
The egg salad was made with the western creamy sauce rather than salad cream.

I think next time I will order the mini burgers.
