Since I saw the good pictures of the noodles in sauce, I have been budding to come here.
However, the portions were very small, even with the extra vegetables we ordered, I still felt hungry.
I was expecting there would be some French beans on top of the noodles as shown on the OR pictures, but there was none.
Having said that, I really liked the egg based noodles here, they were wide and flat. Lacked elasticity as it was egg based. I love noodles in soy sauce especially when there is no pork oil involved. Had noodles with Ostrich meat and the pork belly, the pork belly was soft, and the ostrich meat tasted like beef, slightly chewy.
The whole dish reminded me of 涼拌簥麥麵 at 普洱(前名滇園) Tsuen Wan, except the sauce dosnt have vinegar, and there is more sauce to it, the portion at Tsuen Wan is much bigger.
It used to be located in Laichikok/Cheung Sha Wan before it moved to Tsuen Wan.

The pork bone soup, tasted like chicken to me, and very strong in peppar.
As for the vegetables, it could have been cut better, it was just the whole thing cut in quarters, it needed the sauce to enhance the flavour, the homemade sauce was good too, not too spicy.

[Review 525] Prepared for the worst @ Lung Moon Restaurant 龍門大酒樓

I have heard so many comments on this place, mostly regarding how dirty it is, I was even told they had spit buckets in the olden days, so this would be one of my last options on the list.
I had previously noted a few dishes that I would be interested in trying if I went there, which was the baked fish intestines, fried scallops in taro mash, and the fish head. Then I read the review that it would be closing down, so I decided to give it a visit. I arrived in the early evening, and managed to get the last table, as the rest of the tables already had bookings due to people flocking to try it before they close.
The restaurant was not as dirty as I imagined, just old and ancient with a stench. Maybe it is messier in the daytime when there is more people hustling about.
The menu was hand written, it looked like those ghost writings in the Chinese ghost films, the menu was very hard to decipher, and not all items were listed.
The fried scallops in Taro mash had to be reserved beforehand.
Luckily I read about this place beforehand, or I wouldn’t have been able to know what to order.
The scallops in taro tasted quite good, although slightly over fried, but the taro was velvety. The fish head was slightly crispy and nicely flavoured with ginger and spring onions.
The ironic thing is, some places you would never want to visit, but only because it is closing down, it becomes a place to try.

[Review 524] Good meal with a blocked view @ Suzuki Cafe Company 鈴木珈啡館

Usually I know what I want to eat, however today was clueless, so randomly walked into to this place.
Even with the menu, I was clueless on what to choose, mainly because the dishes were Hong Kong style Japanese food. The sickly rice pots, and overly creamy pastas. I got my inspiration my from a pair of Westerners and got the set with Ribs, the other with chicken in Sake.
The table was too small, so the set that was served in a box, had to be taken away, and the little dishes placed on the table.
For the starters, the salad comprised of rocket lettuce, red lettuce and Japanese vinegar sauce. The scallop and asparagus was tasteless, but tasted ok after dipping it in vinegar. The prawn and pork dumplings also tasted good.
The spinach and baby scallop soup was quite good too, there were about 4 scallops in the soup.
The mains were not as good as starters, the ribs were a bit dry, and the chicken was just boiled frozen chicken thigh with fat chicken skin.
Finally the honey jelly was very good, light and refreshing.
The only disappointment was the cruise liner blocking the sea view.

Not sure if the dim-sums here are more expensive than other places, but quality is good too, they always have artistic dim-sums too such as penguin shaped things etc.
The packaging they gave for the dim-sum is also good, not the CFC ones that fume the food with chemicals.
This time I got the prawn toasts, not that similar to the ones in UK, but they are bite sized with one prawn on each toast.
The ones in UK are ground prawn paste on top of bread and dipped in sesame seeds.

[Review 522] Juicy Lamb Burger @ Hot Dog Stage
Hot Dog Stage 06/11/2009

Shop A1, G/F, Ka Ming Court, 688-690, Castle Peak Rd, Kln, Lai Chi Kok
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/juicy-lamb-burger-e2041642
This is quite a good joint for burgers and hotdogs, the staff speak English too.
The hard back menu is quite nice too.
The menu variety is good, but they ran out of leaflets when I got there, so took a picture instead.
I ordered a lamb burger, as not many places serve them. The burger was wrapped nicely and had their sticker stuck on the wrapping, the outer paper brown bag made it authentic US burger style too.
The lamb burger was on a bed of Rocket lettuce, which I was impressed, not the plain ice-berg type, although it is bitter, the rocket lettuce matches the price of the burger. It was neatly topped with mint sauce and tomato.
According to the menu, only 20 lamb burgers are served a day.
I can’t wait to try their hotdogs.

[Review 521] Popcorns savory and sweet, the new snack in town @ Popcorn Monster

Shop3, 41-43 Dundas Street, Mong Kok

I don’t usually eat popcorn, because of the bits of husk, and also the flavours were boring before, just Toffee, butter etc.
This snack shop reminds me of Jimcus donuts, the snacks are powdered with the relevant flavours like the donuts.
Anyway I got the sour cream and chives, and plan to try some other savoury flavours, but the shop is overflowing with people queuing up for it.
The taste of sour cream powder was not that strong, probably it hadn’t been mixed well or not enough was used.
But overall quite interesting, I will try Salt and vinegar, Cajun, Creamy dill on my next visit.
