A pungent prawn smell when you you open the box, but the prawn paste taste isnt that strong, topped with pork floss and cooked with lots of onion.

Overall it tasted quite nice, but I didnt like the fatty pork that was used in the fried rice.

Today felt like having thai food again, as usual their air conditioning was overly cold.

I ordered the minced beef fried ho fun, assuming it was ho fun with bits of minced beef, but when it arrived it looked like chinese bolognaise on top of ho fun.

The bolognaise as i call it, was basically stirred egg bits with minced beef, green peppers and tomato mixed together in clear sauce, and the ho fun, was just stir fried ho fun beneath it.

Their stir fried noodles is rather salty.

Presentation wise, my friends said it looked like puke!!
Service was very slow today, usually the food arrives a a few minutes after placing the order, also this time the dishes came one at a time!

[Review 531] Labelled Kaya bun, but tasted of custard @ 星巴克咖啡 Starbucks Coffee

This bun has the appearance of a milk bun with the crunchy milk topping, however it is labelled as a Kaya bun.

Usually Kaya is green, but the filling inside was custard colour, in fact it tasted like a high class egg custard bun.

For $10 the price is reasonable for a top quality heated up custard bun, but as a Kaya bun it was not worth it.

Havent been here for a while, the staff seemed to have changed.
The variety was the same as before, a good choice of rice, curries, salad bar, fried items and lots of sauces.
The food was quite spicy and aromatic.
There was complimentary naan and drinks were included in the buffet lunch.

There are a choice of steamed dumplings and pan-fried dumpling, so I chose the steamed ones, firstly because it looked better from the pictures, and secondly not many places steam these type of dumplings.

After trying the steamed ones, I can understand why the edges of the pan-fried ones are tough, because when they were hand made, the edges very compressed together firmly.
When it is pan-fried it makes the edges even more tough, because the edges on the steamed one was quite tough.

There was not much meat in the dumplings, so it was quite a moist, mainly julienne vegetables, about 95% vegetables and 5% bits (bits of pork, shrimp, off bits).

The siu-mai was average quality too.

[Review 528] Service Madly Lousy = SML @ SML

Apart from the Quarry Bay MiscoCool, this is the second restaurant featuring communal tables but in larger lounge.

The whole concept is fresh, and vibrant, nice for the young chics and boys to show their pride in a lively lounge. It also reminds me of school dinner days too, a rejuvenation of youth, relive the young days again, sitting amongst other hip and cool people.

If you do not fancy being on display, I guess it needs time getting used to, like California fitness gym for a specific part of the target market.

Anyway, sat down in the middle of a large bench table, people started filling beside us, but there was no one sitting on our left hand sides, so we placed our bags there. We were ushered to place the bag on one side, then a while later, the waiters from the opposite side ushered us to place the bags on the other side, playing shuffling bags here if u've played shuffling chairs!!

Food ordered:
Chicken Confit & Foie Gras with Truffle Salad
Basically two pieces of sliced baguette served with salad and a pot with shredded chicken, bits of foie gras topped with poppy seeds. The chicken was not dry or chewy, and the bits of silky foie gras buttered the chicken, but there was not that much of foie gras. I thought it should have been layered chicken, then foie gras then the poppy seeds.

Prawn Toast with truffle
Same comment as Babedolphin, no taste in truffle, overly greasy, I suppose the bitterness of the alcohol sauce took away that greasy taste.
Honestly I have had better prawn toasts at Takeaways in UK.

Octopus salad in olive oil
This was a very good mixed of diced yellow peppers, leaves, onions and the octopus, the octopus was chopped tentacles which were very big in diameter, I thought the octopus would be chewy, but it wasn’t at all. There was also some sort of jelly that had formed on the octopus, so it is probably the tinned version.

Lamb kebab
This was a huge stick of minced Lamb on a stick, I tried it with the olive oil from the salad, it was quite nice, and the lamb was strongly covered in Cajun powder. The yoghurt sauce that came with it was lovely, pure sour yoghurt.

Mushroom risotto
This had a very strong smell, but not that strong when I ate it, the texture of the rice was a bit hard, like red grain rice.

I was contemplated to order the Hangar steak and chips, but then I decided to order two desserts, which finished the meal quite elegantly! I wanted Gnocci too, but it wasn’t listed on the menu anymore!!

Pot of chocolate w/chocolate mousse & fudge
This was yummy chocolate mousse with bits of chocolate cake covered with white cream and topped with two pieces of fudge.

Lime cream w/vanilla pineapple & coconut jelly
There were bits of coconut jelly with cutely diced pineapple pieces, layered with lime cream at the bottom, refreshingly delicious, leaving you with a slight hungriness that you will be back for more next time.

Lastly, we tried to paid for the bill, but one of the dreaming waiters either forgot to print out the bill or there was something wrong with the order, so had to ask another waiter got it for us.

Price wise, I think it’s quite reasonable for around $300 considering we ordered food with truffles, foie gras. I think for a good meal, its best to pick out the fine stuff rather than the stuff you can get anywhere, or it just defeats the purpose.

Before I paid it a visit, I thought it was more of a western pub, however after looking at their menu from its website, I realised it was more Philipino/Indonesian.

I ordered two sets, spiced chicken with yellow rice, actually it was two chicken drumsticks with orange rice, and the fish kebab, was just two skewers of fish with tartar sauce.

Overall I thought the food was OK, more suited to the Hongkies, luckily the tea was the teabag one. The price is slightly cheaper than pubs around that area.
