Since there are no restaurant pictures of this place, I could only judge this place by its first review by faywongnum1 and the food pictures.
The food they ordered seemed the general Sing malay food, ie chicken, laksa so I assumed it to be a restaurant, same with the name, however with the word Deluxe, I thought it would be a high end Sing malay restaurant.
Arrived there around 6.30pm, which I am sure everyone would consider as EVENING, sat down, was given a free bottle of water and a menu to look at.
The place looked like a high-end restaurant, however my local friends said it looked like a pub.
Looked at the menu, maybe I was wrong, it was a bar indeed, it was a happy hour menu, I cant remember the exact time printed on the menu, either it said 3-6, or 6-9, all the items were salads and small things like that.
I then asked if there was a full menu, because it is a bit unbelievable a nice place like that doesn’t have a proper menu, but a printed menu encased in hard plastic.
They then gave us a menu for dinner, the items on it were not the usual Singmalay stuff, at that moment I wanted to leave because it didn’t serve LAKSA or HAINAN CHICKEN as mentioned in the first review. SECONDLY, it was served in the evening according to the review, so I was so confused by the waitress as she said the Laksa was only available for lunch!!!
At this point, I had reason to suspect the staff could have written the first review, since that user has only written one review so far.
I think that LAKSA or hainan chicken is a standard item for any singmalay place.
At that moment, I really wanted to leave the restaurant but there was also the dessert I wanted to try, so I ordered only one item from the main menu and the two desserts.
After a while, some other customers came in and after sitting down and looking at the menu, they left.
I think they probably read OpenRice and came for laksa or hainan chicken but found it wasn’t on the menu so left.
The waitress then came over and said she asked the Chef and we could order the Laksa and Chicken, so we ordered that, I finally caught a glimpse of that menu with those items and I didn’t see any specified time for ordering those items.
The Hainan chicken was the first to arrive, it came with soup. The soup was not the usual wintermelon soup served with the chicken, but mushroom soup.
The rice was piping hot, there was only 4-5 pieces of chicken, most of it was chicken skin, but consistent with the pictures in the first review, ie not many pieces.
All the dishes served had freshly picked yellow petals sprinkled on top, not sure what flowers they were, but they had a mini herb rack, where they picked herbs and flowers to garnish the dishes.
The seafood laksa was served in an elongated round bowl, many toppings just like the picture in the first review, this was one of the attractions that made me want to try it. I was curious to see what the green stuff was, but it turned out to be seaweed rather than laksa leaves. There were clams, surf clams, prawns, and this fried prawn ball covered in oats. There were long thin mushrooms, radish, tiny dried shrimps and boiled egg.
This was the first time I ate the yolk in a laksa dish as it was half done.
Taste wise, a little salty, overall the portion was very big, almost like a double portion. Although not that authentic, it was more like a supersize laksa with unusual toppings such as seaweed and mushrooms.
After finishing the mains, the waitress came over and said the Taro mousse I ordered had a problem, she said the Chef said there was something wrong with the TEXTURE so it wasn’t available. I wasn’t very pleased because I came here intending to have that. I would have preferred she told me when I ordered it, rather than telling me after I finished my food and expecting dessert to be served.
Since I ordered the Pandan bread pudding, I only had that, it was egg baked with pandan paste on top, when I cut it, green liquid oozed from the bottom.
Anyway as with all bread puddings they taste sweet, but this one was salty and sweet, I asked the waitress and she said it was normal.
After I finished the pudding, our bowls were replaced with cleans bowls, I thought it was weird, because we had finished all our food, unless the other dessert was suddenly available!!!!
I asked them to check if there was anything else to arrive, but it seemed there was nothing else to come.
The dessert bowls and spoons were tiny, it makes the dessert portion look big, and eating it in many rounds.
I only uploaded pictures of the dessert and surroundings as the food I ordered was more less the same as in the first review.
IMPROVEMENTS: I think this place needs to improve on their menu options unless they are relying solely on their alcohol business, if so why the singaporean name.
After eating all these singmalay places in Hong Kong, this is my 20th review, I didn’t expect this place to be like that, anyway Shiok here I come.

[Review 656] Not just rice noodles @ 魚米家魚湯米線大王 Yue Mic Ka

I never intended to visit this shop before because I was under the impression the only noodles served here were the thick chewy rice spaghetti (mai sin).
Later I saw that they served other stuff so gave it a try.
Ordered stir-fried doll noodles with soft pork bone and E-noodles with carbonara sauce and prawn.
Stir-fried doll noodles:
To begin with, when they were just done, the oil didn’t reek that bad, after it had cooled down, its oily odour is guaranteed to make it burp it up later. Either their pan hadn’t been washed or the cooking oil was old.
The dish was about 60% doll noodles and 40% Julienne vegetables cooked in it, so there was not much noodles in the whole plate. The soft bone pork was soft and gelatinous.
E-noodles with Prawn and Carbonara
Saw this on the menu, so felt like having it because I didn’t need to go to the big restaurants for it.
Before it arrived, I expected it to be a similar substitute to the ones served at big restaurants because they have used Carbonara sauce instead of just cheese. Carbonara itself is much creamier than cheese, so I didn’t expect it to taste as good as cheese sauce.
For people who haven’t tried real cheese, when they try the chinese style cheese, they will think cheese is sickly and creamy as the Chinese like to add milk/cream to it.
For their drinks menu, there was nothing much interesting except for one drink which was apple and cucumber green tea.

Apart from Istanbul, this is another Turkish joint, I think its the same as Istanbul, the menu, the fonts etc are the same.
However I think the food is not as hot as it should be.
When I was ordering, I couldnt feel the heat from their open kitchen, so I wonder if the grill was on for the kebab meats.
The rice was slightly soggy.

[Review 654] Clean Blood cockle clams @ 昌發泰國粉麵屋 Cheong Fat Thai Food

G/F, 25-27 South Wall Road, Kowloon City
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/clean-blood-clams-e2063747
The noodles were consistently good as before, so not worth mentioning this time round, although the soup still wasn’t as strong as the first time.
In addition to noodles also had stir-fried water spinach, blood clams, and satays.
The stir-fried spinach was nicely topped with garlic crumbs, and it tasted just right with chili, miso beans.
The satay was good especially the chicken, all had the smoked flavour packed in it from the grilling process. When we ordered we actually asked for beef and chicken, but they gave us pork instead of the beef.
Anyway the pork wasn’t that bad, at least it was pure lean meat.
Finally the blood clams were the best, previously tried them at the other Thai joint in Kowloon city, the ones here were cooked more thorough and cleaner too, the ones at the Thai BBQ were still alive and had some mud on the shells.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I have been wanting to try this place for ages but I was too lazy to pop over to Sai Kung. I went today as there were other stuff to check out such as Camden Town, Fiesta, and various western grocery stores.
It was a little hard to find at first, as I assumed it was on the seafront side, however it was near Sweetheart dessert.
Its a nice little restaurant that distinguishes itself from its surroundings, wooden front and ceilings, there is a reptile area too, but they are display only.
The staff were very friendly, a British one and one that looks like Louis Koo.
I ordered the starter platter so I could try their starters, I ate the ones that I thought were the most tasty, and left the samosa and fish roti last. The fish roti was the best! I never expected it to taste the best out of the five, the filling was purple made with Sri Lankan purple potato, and it was a dense paste of grounded fish and purple potato with hints of black pepper.
I also liked the Samosa because it was made of chicken instead of the usual pork.
The other breaded items were also good, they reminded me of FINDUS crispy pancakes from UK, but with spicy fillings inside.
The Fish cutlet was ball shaped rather than fillets that you would expect from western cuisine.
As for the Pittu, it was rice mixed with coconut, various pulses and some herbs steamed in a bamboo.
The rice went perfectly with the coconut rich curry.

[Review 651] Afternoon Tea served in two rounds @ Focaccino
Focaccino 17/02/2010
尖沙咀彌敦道132號美麗華商場1樓2號舖
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/high-tea-served-in-two-rounds-e2063739
Came here for afternoon tea after comparing their menu with Chum Chum Mi.
The food was served on a plate rather than elegant silverware.
The afternoon tea was served in two parts, the first part was the items on the white dish.
After paying the bill and leaving the restaurant we noticed there should have been panna cotta as well, we notified the chef, she apologized and asked if we wanted takeaway or have it there.
So we had it there.
We sat down and were given a fresh set of forks, but both were DIRTY with food stuck on it.
Tea set:
The tea set included: 2 quiches, cheese and salmon sandwich, cheese and ham sandwich, 2 fruit tarts, 2 cheesecakes, 4 mini scones, 2 panna cottas, 2 profiteroles (replaced by sandwiches as they were out of stock).
Quiche: tasted strong in egg with bacon pieces.
Sandwiches: both contained cheddar cheese, the cheese was ok for the ham, however the ham was slightly stringy and fat.
For the salmon, I felt the cheese was the wrong type, it should have been cream cheese.
Fruit tarts: diced pineapple, blueberry and strawberry on a tart based filled with chocolate mousse.
Cheesecake: tasted better than expected, not too light or heavy with a hint of lemon and sultana just like the ones you get from M&S in uk.
Scones: Totally not authentic although they did taste like scones, they should have been served with clotted cream and jam, however they were drizzled with strawberry syrup, and not even any cream was served.
Panna Cotta: this was the one they forgot to serve, basically it was very creamy and needed the chocolate sauce to support it.
