Was surprised the food here was good.
Ordered: chicken in wine, cold noodles with shellfish and cucumber, noodles with beef slices.
The chicken in wine was the best, not sure what the wine is called in English, but it is called Fa Diu according to the menu.
Luckily, it was value for money, every piece of chicken had meat on it, not just FAT skin and BONES, it was also chopped cleanly too, there were no tiny bone fragments found.
Cold noodles: rich al-dente noodles that were slightly chewy and springy in texture.
The shellfish was sweet as well.
Beef noodles: tasted okay, but bland after eating the other strong dishes., also the colour and taste intensity doesnt look as rich as the product shot.

[Review 684] Not much variety @ 青樓
青樓 17/03/2010
Noticed this new shop, sleek black at the corner of a busy market.
At the counter, there is a fake bird cage with a dummy bird, giving it the vibes they are doing ancient teas.
The tea names are quite interesting, what you find in old TV programs, such as "ching lau", a brothxl house in old china, as i have been told.
Anyway, from their menu range, they specialise in Chinese teas such as oolong, pu erh, iron buddha etc.
Apart from that, there are various fruit syrup teas which frankly can be bought anywhere else, same with the Taiwanese taro tea, rose tea.

[Review 683] Yoghurt pasta @ Skyline Cafe
Skyline Cafe 17/03/2010
灣仔莊士敦道206號地下
G/F, 206 Johnston Road, Wan Chai
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/yoghurt-pasta-e2069635
I had previously picked up their menu and was deciding to dine in or get a take-out, in the end I opted to dine in.
The menu was slightly helpful as they had English too, however for one of the dishes, in English it indicates noodles, but in Chinese it reads Rice.
Basically the choices were either pastas or the Chinese dishes. All the dishes were mostly fusion such as beef with peach with is neither chinese or western! Usually peaches are treated as a sweet fruit cooked with poultry and even pork, I think this is the first beef dish with peach in HK!
As for the pasta, I was surprised there was a wide range available, ie angel hair, fettuccine, spaghetti.
To order, you need to walk up to the counter and order your food, they will give you a ticket and bring you your food, next time I will phone for a take-away, as it is difficult to order in a noisy background.
Their front door is a sliding glass door, which seemed to be previously an automatic door that is non-functional, so either it is non-functional or they are saving electricity costs.
Most of the items come with soup and a drink.
The soup that was served was western soup, the typical chinese-western soup, by appearance it looks like western soup, thick, white with pieces of ham in it.
By taste, it is totally chinese, ie pork broth mixed with flour/starch with pieces of ham in it.
Penne pasta with yoghurt sauce, basil and squid
Very big in portion, generous with basil and squid, the squid was tasteless and tiring to eat!
The pasta was quite nice, however not hot enough and not enough sauce. The sauce was quite nice with curds of yoghurt in it from the cooking process.
Chinese dish – chicken with “three cup” wine and aubergines
Tasted nothing like the usual “three cup” dishes with lots of onions, green peppers.
The chicken was good though, generous chunks of chicken thighs.
The only prominent taste was the oily wok odour, typical in chinese food.

[Review 682] Nice lunch but limited food choice @ 香港地 Hong Kong Day
香港地 Hong Kong Day

Shop P102, The Peak Tower, 128 Peak Road, The Peak
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/nice-lunch-but-limited-food-choice-e2069434
Basically after scanning the menu, I felt the two items ordered were worth eating, the rest were items such as instant noodles, curries, baked spaghetti, stir fried noodles, sandwiches which could be ordered anywhere.
Overall, there was not much choice on the menu, the range was small.
The beef steak was thinly sliced beef covered in pepper sauce, the beef was quite good, only a tiny edge of fat to be found.
The legumes on top of the steak was long beans which is better than the effortless diced frozen vegetables found in the usual HK cafes.
The chicken steak was the best, similar to Wing Sik, but less flavouring for the chicken and topped with generous spring onion and ginger sauce.
The only thing that let the chicken down, was that it had a strong frozen chicken taste and some weird taste from marination.
Both pieces were de-boned chicken thighs.
I thought it was a big portion, but I still felt hungry after eating it all.

[Review 681] Jaffe road branch worst of the three @ 沙嗲城 Satay City

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
There are three branches in Wan chai, this one is the worst, the take-away bag is always wet with sauce, which gets your hands sticky.
This time I tried the long macaroni's with Satay sauce.
The prawn is rather dark, so are the vegetables. I will not come to this branch again, however the other two branches are ok.

[Review 680] Signature Satay sauce rather than white curry @ 沙嗲城 Satay City

https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/signature-satay-sauce-rather-than-white-curry-e2069084
Previously tried their white curry and curry, the white curry is not as good as Satay King, it tastes strong in coconut.
The curry however is fiery and tastes better than Sun King Yuen curry in Spring garden lane. The curry itself is packed with fine grounded chili which can be seen in the sauce.
The satay sauce is the best sauce. It does not taste like the satay sauces found in general chinese places.
It is thick and rich, it dosnt have that sweet tone or curry tone, it is peanut butter based, that tastes like the Satay sauces served in UK, it matches the one at Stephen's take away in Willingdon.
The only thing I didnt like was the sesame, everything else was fine.

[Review 679] Some improvements @ Coyote Bar & Grill

Coyote Bar & Grill 11/02/2010
灣仔駱克道114-120號嘉洛商業大廈
Gaylord Commercial Building,114-120 Lockhart Road, Wan Chai
Food was good as usual, the tea was improved this time after last time needing to put the teabag in separately.
In general all their starters, soups are good, especially the onion soup, lots of onions.
Their salads are very appetizing too, sometimes it will have citrus fruits such as orange, on other occasions it is baby spinach leaves in a strong lemoney dressing.
The sauces cupboard reminds me of Nando's peri peri chicken with hot sauces of various degrees.
