After renovation, the outside looks neater and brighter, however it remains similar inside.
Came on a quiet day, not many people were dining there, so sat on a big table.
There were two staff that day, an Asian woman, and a British woman one (possibly the owner).
The British lady was very nice and bubbly, asked us how the food was, however the Asian one was being over smart when no-one requested her to do so.
Basically, that day, the restaurant was not even half full, the Asian one requested us to sit at a smaller table.
Had the Steak frites, slightly over done for a medium rare, but tasted nice and juicy with fries on the side. The dessert was good too, I think it was fudge cake rather than chocolate cake as stated on the menu, same with the soup, tasted like potato rather than parsnip.
Anyway the dessert was lovely and velvety, rich in chocolate but not cloyingly sweet.
The British lady was very nice, she cleared up the dishes to give us more space to eat.
We did have a big table, if it wasn’t for that other waitress!

[Review 691] Worst Sawaddee Thai branch in SK @ 旺泰特食 Sawaddee Thailand

=================================================================
Firstly: they had the aromatic oils burning in the restaurant which made me sick and dizzy.
Secondly: The pad thai I ordered was TOO SWEET.
Thirdly: The prawns were not intact, the meatier section was chopped off, leaving just the tails. What a con!

[Review 690] Satay City's white curry and moldy chopsticks @ 沙嗲城 Satay City

Basically, the white curry can satisfy someone who has a white curry craving with no Satay King nearby, however it tastes more coconutty and creamier.
As for the utensils, they were moldy.
Anyway, this is the beauty of Hong Kong, you can get away with serving unhygienic food and get away with it as well as being rude!

[Review 689] Only because of shrimp roe noodles @ 皇后咖喱 Queen's Curry
皇后咖喱 Queen's Curry 24/03/2010
將軍澳貿業路8號新都城中心2期2樓美味坊
2/F, MCP Central, 8 Mau Yip Road, Tseung Kwan O
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/only-because-of-shrimp-roe-noodles-e2071130
Wasn’t really intending to try this place, however something made it special.
The owner said the noodles served here were the shrimp roe ones, so because of that, I gave it a try.
Basically it was shrimp roe noodles (har Ji meen) topped with satay sauce and grilled beef.
Not many places serve these noodles, and also with curry. Interesting!!
In general, most Indonesian food are basically noodles in sauce, but I think this is an adaptation for HK’ers.
The noodles were slightly too soft, but not stuck together, and the satay sauce was good with lots of peanuts and not evidently sweet like the chinese satay sauces.
The beef was ok, thinly sliced and slightly soft due to the flour used to soften it up, although there was one piece that was still raw (on the left side of pictures).

[Review 688] Dipping soldiers @ Applegreen
Applegreen 24/03/2010

2/F, Plaza 2000, 2-4 Russell Street, Causeway Bay
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/dipping-soldiers-e2071109
Came here especially for the “egg in a hole” an interesting Applegreen adaptation from Toad in the hole.
Ordered egg in a hole and toast with cheese, egg and ham.
Egg in a hole:
Two round pieces of bread perfectly toasted with an egg in the middle of it, and the cut out piece was placed on top.
The egg yolk inside was perfectly runny, good for dipping toast, which reminded me of Marmite soldiers.
There were two thin pieces of pork sausages, probably one sausage cut in half. It was slightly over salty.
The ham was a nice thick slice, with the patterns of the wrapping still embedded on it, not too salty.
The potato that came with it was also good, finely shredded potato, with oven crisp cheese on top.
This came with a glass of fruit, refreshingly served in orange juice that was perfect to finish the meal.
The fruits were melon, pineapple, orange, all that went well together.
As for the cheese and ham toast, the bread visually looked like the bread from BO-LO’GNE Café & Bar in central.
It was light and soft, with a slight sweet taste, same with the egg in the hole one.
The ham they used for the toast was a good choice too, wafer thin ham.
The tea that was served was proper tea too with normal milk, not the Hongkish tea.

[Review 687] Turkish food made simple @ The Golden Horn Restaurant

Two things I learnt today!!
Fact 1: The foam box doesn’t melt in the microwave.
I ordered an Iskender, and basically the guy put the ingredients in the white foam box and shoved it in the microwave.
I thought it was going to melt but it didnt!!
Fact 2: The Iskender is so simple to make, the ingredients are readily available from the supermarket!!
2 Slices of bread
Nestle original yoghurt
Tomato puree
Chicken!!!!!
All the guy did was diced the bread, placed it in the foam box, put some chicken on top, then tomato puree, and then the yoghurt and heated it through the microwave!!! :0
HEY PRESTO! ISKENDER is so easy to make!!
Also quite amusing, was given chopsticks and Chinese plastic spoon by the Turkish joint!!!

灣仔軒尼詩道87號地下

https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/cack-ka-roach-fried-rice-e2069946
Firstly, I think the photo explains it really.
Secondly, it is hard to order from the waitor who seems to talk gibberish!
Thirdly, this little shop has been established since 1969, i wonder if they've been serving cochroache fried rice all these years to keep in business!!!
Fourthly, did this cockroach happen to walk by the wok and get cooked in,
anyway, if it was clean, they shouldn't be walking about!
