I saw this blueberry cake after I bought the chocolate forest roll from Sakurashima Bakery.
As mentioned previously the chocolate roll contained eggshell pieces, I didn’t take any pictures because I ate it whilst walking.

The blueberry cake looked more like cranberry, pink in colour.

The cake tasted ok, but as with all Chinese cakes, it was spoilt by the signature Chinese salted cream.

I would have preferred plain cream or simply slightly sweetened cream.
The texture of the cake was a bit flat, not light or springy at all.
Overall I liked the cake, but felt put off after finding eggshell.

Anyway I can't believe over two consecutive days, I found eggshells in my cake and from two totally different bakeries!!

What are the chances of finding eggshell in a cake from shop 1, and then the next day finding eggshell in a cake from shop 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[Review 733] Black forest roll @ 櫻島麵包餅店 Sakurashima Bakery

Felt like something sweet, so just got a cheap $5 chocolate roll from this place, they also had the black forest cake at $6 which was very cheap, but considering I didn’t like the white chocolate shavings on top and they didn’t even have a box to put theses cakes unless you bought a dozen, I got the chocolate roll which was the same as the black forest cake.

The location is very annoying too, located near the butchers and fishmongers, it is a bit hard to carry delicate bakery amongst slow walking housewives and people with kids.

Anyway, the roll was big and cheap, the sponge was ok, not that chocolatey.
The cream inside was the usual fake stuff, embedded with diced blackcurrant jelly.
It tasted ok, but then there was this crunch and I realised it was pieces of egg shell.
So I suppose, I can confirm 100% it contained egg.

[Review 732] Shroom Shroom! @ Freshness Burger

Portabello mushrooms are rare here, so when I saw pictures of it I just had to get it.

As with all burgers at Freshness, all the salad vegetables are too big and chunky, they make up for at least two thirds of the burger.

I think if the onion had been finely diced, it would have tasted much better as a whole, also the tomato was cut too thickly too.

Anyway I removed the tomato, onion, and lettuce and just had the mushroom sandwiched between the burger.

The mushroom was skillfully grilled in that it wasn’t dripping with oil or juices when served.
Although it wasn’t dripping, it was still very juicy at consumption.
The balsamic vinegar and mayonnaise complimented it very well too. The texture of the mushroom was meaty and earthy.

The last time I had a Portobello mushroom was at the burger joint in sheung wan, it was awful, it had been soaked in vinegar.

It is good that they have a vegetarian range too, the tofu burger and mushroom burger both taste nice.
The burger was 90% similar to its product shot, however there was extra mayonnaise, the tofu burger was a bit different to its product shot.

Food here is deteriorating, even with the spring onion buns, you can see not all were cooked at the same time, the other two are nice and white, and the other one is over fried.

Anyway, while I was there, they had a staff meeting, they were trying to improve things with more deluxe items such as abalone, which I heard they sourced them for $7 each.

In a suburb town like TKO, I believe that appropriate things should be offered, too fancy and people wouldn’t try it, unless they saw people having it.
They should give food items realistic names rather than fancy names that not even their waiters would know what dish they are.
It's a real put-off for me, when I need to ask the waiter what a dish is because of its fancy name, and then wait for the waiter to ask the chef what it is, since the name is so fancy even their staff doesnt know.

Not everyone is that curious to find out or try their luck with a dish that doesnt say what they are.

It’s just so simple! They could just check Openrice and see what other restaurants are serving and get inspiration. V Cuisine is a good restaurant direction they could head for!

[Review 730] Truffle with scrambled eggs @ Chrisly Cafe 華星冰室 (灣仔)

Came here just for the scrambled eggs with truffle.

Their scrambled eggs are perfect, so I thought with the addition of truffle it would intensify the flavours even more, as the egg itself was abit bland, so with truffle it would give it some saltiness.

Anyway, when it arrived I was a bit surprised, there was lots of truffle on top, yet I couldnt smell any of it, even the cheap one at Fairwood had a more pungent smell.

The truffle didnt have much taste, so I wondered if the truffle had not been in an air tight container hence loosing its smell and flavour.

Also tried the toast with kaya and jam.
The jam was a bit sweet.
The kaya was orange instead of green, but it seems the Chinese serve the orange ones.
The flavour wasnt as fragrant as the green one.
Anyway I had mine without butter, as I don't like sweet and salty flavours mixed together.

The cost here is slightly more than the other all you can eat Japanese places, but the food here is surprisingly better than their lunches.

Lots of varieties, the grilled scallops are the best, they have clams in sake too.
