Previously visited this place for the noodles, it was relatively new that time, so I didn’t realised they left out the French beans on my noodles until I saw the other reviews.

I came back this time to try the egg with the runny centre, or sugar centred eggs as the Chinese call it.

It is good when places serve new items, it will make customers come back to try the new items, well I do anyway to try out the new things.

The egg was served in a bowl with about two spoons of wine sauce, the waitress told me to let it stand there for 2 minutes before eating it, as she said it came straight out of the fridge.
Before I started eating it, the chef also apologised that the eggs were over boiled so the centre wasn’t runny.

Usually the egg white is tasteless, but the egg white here was nice and flavoured, so the whole egg was fully flavoured.

The egg in wine sauce surprised me, I was expecting the wine to be like the drunken chicken type, which is watery, but the wine sauce here is slightly viscous with some chicken essence in it.
The wine taste wasn’t very alcoholic either, it didn’t leave the egg white tasting bitter.
The clarity of the wine sauce was slightly cloudy. The viscosity of the wine sauce is good at adhering to the egg giving it flavour.

Anyway, as the chef told me the egg was overdone, it didn’t ruin my expectations of a runny centre.

As I knew it was overdone I consumed the egg white first with the sauce, and left the egg yolk last.
The egg yolk itself already has a natrual flavour itself anyway, and it was slightly runny in the middle, so the texture was slightly sticky.

The wine sauce tasted exactly like 「女兒紅鳳爪」(chicken in wine sauce) served in Chinatown in the UK.
「女兒紅鳳爪」is a popular dish served at various restaurants in Britain’s Chinatown, but I can’t find it served anywhere in Hong Kong nor the US!

[Review 740] I fancy a snog and a smooch! @ Smooch

Intriguing, after having a snog in the UK, there is now Smooch in Hong Kong.

It serves mainly frozen yoghurt just like Snog and Smooch (Indonesia).

The image of Smooch in Hong Kong is simply red and white, that suits central, neither the punk nor rock of the Snog in UK or the Pastel cuteness of the the Indonesian Smooch. However with the indonesian Smooch, i like their variety in flavours:
Plain Classic, Pomegranate, Green Apple, Blackcurrant, Plain Sour, Peach, Acai Berry
Mango, Mojito.
With Berrygood, they do have these flavours, but they are under weekly rotations.

Snog website: http://www.ifancyasnog.com/
Smooch website (indonesia): http://www.smoochyogurt.com/

Anyway, with the increasing popularity of froyo in Hong Kong and the scorching summer to come, it is another joint to go to in Central to join alongside Berrygood and Yoghurtime.

Hopefully they will have more flavours in future, and I can imagine for the coming Christmas, we could have some fun if they had their ceiling covered in mistletoe and having a tempting smooch!!

Last visit, I forgot to take pictures of the Macarons, so this time tried more flavours.
Hazelnut, blackcurrant, passonfruit, lychee and raspberry.

Raspberry and lychee tasted the same as before.
The rest were of that were the same crumbly texture.
The Hazelnut basically had hazelnut paste in the middle.
I was assuming blackcurrant would taste the strongest, but it wasnt, and passionfruit wasnt that sour either.
Overall, I liked their macarons as they are not as sweet as the other places.

The only improvement is the packaging, I think for people who buy more than four, they could at least provide a better packaging to protect them from being crushed.

[Review 738] Cheers to no alcohol! @ Freshness Burger

Apart from burgers, the drink selection is also quite good, from the usual teas I found a non-alcoholic beer.

There were three flavours: apple, peach, hibiscus and original.

I got the original one just to see how it tastes naturally, it was surprisingly similar to the real beer without the alcoholic content, also it had that bitterness but more bitter than the real thing.
I was surprised it also had the frothy white foam like the real thing too.

I also ordered Lemon Tea too, which I found to be too sweet, with the addition of the Bavaria drink mixed to it, it tasted quite nice, the bitterness diluted with the sweetness of Lemon Tea.

Having visited the other Freshness burger stores, it seems that only the TST branch serves this drink.

The food and setting was clean.
Best Lemon tea:
Even though I rarely drink it, I will here!!
Best Laksa soup.
Best Tom Yum Kung soup:
Again I never have this, but here it doesn’t have that lemon grass taste and the onions matched the soup base very well. It basically tastes lemony, and the soup tastes just like Mama’s brand Tom yum instant noodles.
Best chow mein:
All the strands of noodles were evenly covered with flavour and colour, every mouthful was packed with ingredients such as red sausage, sesame.
Best liver:
Tastes even better than Trusty gourmet, cut to small pieces, there was so much in my bowl, I thought I was on the last piece, but I kept discovering more at the bottom of the bowl
Best menu:
Nice and clear, with ENGLISH too!

[Review 736] Amazing @ 金裝燉奶佬餐廳 Daniel's Restaurant

I was very surprised with this dessert, it tasted so good I would have expected it from a dessert joint rather than a Chinese cafe.
Came across the restaurant in Wan Chai, but went to the CWB branch.

I ordered the Sawdust with milk and egg white pudding, there were 5 flavours: original, pudding, mango, red beans and apple.
Basically the pudding is topped with the flavour of your choice.
For my dessert I had the apple.

The apple topping was very very sweet, its appearance was stewed diced apple pieces in thick golden apple sauce, exactly the same as the filling in McDonalds apple pie minus the cinnamon flavouring.
I tried the pudding initially without the apple, it was smooth and silky and even better than the milk pudding at Yee Shun. The sawdust was finely grounded biscuit crumbs, which were crunchier than the normal sawdust served in other places.
The milk pudding was not overly creamy and didn’t leave a sour taste like other dairy items.
The decorative cream at the top was good too, smooth and creamy.

Firstly it was like eating milk crumble, then it felt like apple crumble.

It would be good if they had more layers of the sawdust in between the milk pudding, and it would be milk crumble and then by adding another layer of apple, it would become apple milk crumble! Wouldn’t that be fun!

Overall there is wide variety offered there. However some dishes are plainly weird!
Soft pork bone with clams (bit strange pork served with shellfish)
Imitation abalone and fatty beef slices (bit weird beef and abalone).

The restaurant was very noisy, as with all Chinese places.
Also the staffs product knowledge could have been improved, I asked about a noodle dish as I wanted to know which noodles were served, and they answered “ordinary” noodles which really explains it considering there are many types ie egg noodles, wonton noodles, etc.

po l
Cheap, with various combinations and sauces such as fried chicken/pork chop with basic items such as luncheon egg and ham.
Curry sauce was very watery, it was good that it was watery, because the fried items was very dry.
The onion sauce tasted like the tomato sauce from Heinz baked beans.
