翠華餐廳 Tsui Wah Restaurant

Tsui Wah is getting boring these days, after trying other chinese cafes, it appears that other places offer much more variety, yet Tsui Wah remains the same, and also their prices are slightly above average.
Got the chicken with sauce, crispy bun with condensed milk, and sharks bone soup with seaweed.
The chicken was rather dry and coarse.
The crispy bun was the best, despite there wasnt much condensed milk, it tasted ok.
Sharks bone soup with seaweed.
This was the most disappointing, it is Tsui Wah's signature soup that claims there is no MSG.
There was no MSG, but it so was so SALTY and the coriander herbs in it spolt it. Even the soup at Sun Chu Koon tastes better than this.

[Review 761] Cheesy Hidden 10% service charge @ The Big Apple
30/05/2010
The Big Apple
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/hidden-10-service-charge-e2088039
I couldnt be bothered to take pictures of the Tea set menu, but I think the photo taken by
Yannielwy http://www.openrice.com/restaurant/photos.htm?shopid=46183&photoid=456096
clearly dosnt show any 10% service charge at all!
I have seen this restaurant at Sanlitun before, in the scenic balcany along with other bistro restaurants. It was a bit far to go, but now it is located in Jaffe Road.
Although it does seem to be posher being located in Sanlitun, the new restaurant at Jaffe Road looks dark inside.
Anyway, I got the cheese platter. Before I came I phoned and enquired what cheeses were in that platter, they answered "Mozzarella, cheddar, and xxx ver"
I couldnt quite work out what she was trying to say for the third one, but when I ordered at the restaurant, I asked again, and I still got the same answer :xxver"
I asked for the Mozzarella to be replaced with something else, so when I got the platter there were three different types of cheeses: Camembert/Brie, Stilton, and Cheddar, alongside with some puree which I thought was Apple, and some lettuce with balsalmic vinegar and two slices of toasted baguette.
It was slightly different to how I expected it to be, I always had the impression this place would be quite authentic western. I had in mind cheese would be served with savoury biscuits or fresh sliced apples/grapes.
The cheddar was very soft and bland, the stilton was nice and strong, but velvety soft. and the camembert was gooey.
Lastly, I had tea, luckily I asked for the milk to be served aside, because when it came, the milk was the condensed type, which ruined the breakfast tea.
When I left, the manageress was very nice and asked if the food was ok, she said the apple puree I had was infact their freshly made Pear sauce. I also mentioned about the milk, because I thought it was obviously that normal milk should be served with breakfast tea, and she said that the staff were hard to train, which is fair enough since it is a newly opened shop.
IMPROVEMENTS:
1) Staff should have better food knowledge, but they are currently being trained.
2) The menu's should clearly state a 10% service charge
3) Better hygiene, because there was a pesky little fly on my table, and it managed to sample some of my pear puree ><!

[Review 759] Bread Tree Express @ Bread Tree Express

I have always wanted to try Bread Tree Express for lunch, but their staff attitude are rude and when I tried to make orders by phone no one picks up.
Bread Tree Express (http://www.openrice.com/restaurant/sr2.htm?shopid=10883)
Anyway, a while ago, this new cafe was being decorated and recruiting people, and all enquiries were diverted to Bread Tree Express, so I assumed it was a subsidiary of Bread Tree Express.
Finally when it opened, the menu is exactly the same as Bread Tree Express, so I decided to try it.
I tried phoning first, but no one answered.
So I went there directly and ordered a baby honey pork shanks in curry sauce.
There was a choice of pasta, rice or mash to go with it. I picked mash with mine.
It also came with Tea/Coffee or soup.
The chicken and sweetcorn soup was very thick, with pieces of chicken and generous crunchy sweetcorn in it. The soup was so thick, it could have been sauce.
The pork and mash was nicely presented in a plastic dish, it was layered with mash and topped with three pork shanks.
The MAJOR complaint was the cutlery, I was only given ONE PLASTIC FORK and a chinese plastic spoon!!!!!!
It was majorly difficult trying to eat a pork shank on bone with a plastic fork!!!
Anyway, despite that, the food was ok, the curry sauce was the typical chinese cafe type and the mash was slightly better than anticipated, it had pieces of potato as well as pure mash.

[Review 758] Chicken Mushroom Swiss @ Burger King

Tried the mushroom swiss, which is a nice adaptation of the beef version.
It was a really good match of juicy grilled chicken with melted cheese and thinly sliced mushrooms.
The fries and onion rings tasted how it should be.

[Review 757] Lan Fong Yuen TST underground grotto @ 蘭芳園 Lan Fong Yuen

There has been much hype with the LFY in central, but it has never motivated me to go.
Frankly I am not really a fan of Chinese food from these HK style cafes.
Discovered this old looking cafe in the newly renovated underground mall that used to be Cybermall, so decided to give it a try.
Tried the instant noodles in sauce: one with chicken steak and the other with pork neck meat in BBQ sauce.
Both those dishes had ginger and onion sauce.
The noodles were a bit disappointing, it was rough and foamy.
If they had used Nissin instant noodles instead it would have been much better.
The lemon tea that came with it was so foul, it was so bitter I thought I was drinking coffee.

Went there for lunch, and it was loaded with people.
The lunch was a bit heavy, the selection was more like dinner.
The waitress could speak English surprisingly, but not that well!
Ordered chicken in wine and mushrooms in oyster sauce.
The mushroom in oyster sauce was so watery and tasteless.
The chicken was bit boring, and even my Australian friends didnt like it much!
