Out of all Häagen-Dazs products, I felt this one was the best.
It was frozen form of Millefeuille, the custard had been replaced with rich custard ice-cream.
The dessert was topped with crushed flakey pieces and layered with custard ice-cream and raspberry sauce.
If there were more layers of flakey pieces, it would have tasted better.
From experience, I would recommend eating it after a while rather than rock hard frozen.

[Review 810] Cheesy octopus crunchies @ 味千拉麵 Ajisen Ramen
10/07/2010
味千拉麵 Ajisen Ramen
灣仔港灣道30號新鴻基中心1樓104-108號
Shop 104-108, First Floor, Sun Hung Kai Centre, Wan Chai
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/cheesy-octopus-crunchies-e2098543
Got two of the new promoted items, the tempura stuffed mushrooms with mashed potato and fish roe, and the noodles with the cheesy octopus crunchies.
Stuffed mushrooms:
Piping hot, and the shittake mushroom were very juicy.
It was surprising the mashed potato had a very oceanic taste due to the fish roe.
The noodles taste the same as usual, however the fried octopus with cheese was interesting, the cheese texture was like mozzarella, and it was wrapped in beancurd skin and then coated with batter and fried.
It was slightly over fried because the outside was a little too crunchy and brown.
There wasn’t much taste to it, especially the mozzarella.

[Review 809] Rubbish set dinner @ 百伏棧台灣小吃 Greenland Taiwanese Cuisine

百伏棧台灣小吃 Greenland Taiwanese Cuisine
灣仔莊士敦道181號大有廣場2樓201號舖
Shop 201, 2/F, Tai Yau Plaza, 181 Johnston Road, Wan Chai
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/unworthy-set-dinner-e2098539
Ordered the set dinner for two at $178 with 10% service charge on top as well.
The set comprises of two drinks, bittermelon and spareribs soup, chicken and flat noodles with chili sesame sauce, marinated mix, and pork and lotus patty.
For that price, you can have a relatively decent meal at other places.
Soup: this was the best item only, there were soya beans and tiny mussels in the broth which gave it the rich flavour.
Chicken with flat noodles: It was very spicy, basically it tastes the same as the Shanghai version but spicier.
Marinated mix: This was the most worthless dish, a mix of cheap crap, such as tofu, intestines, fatty chicken wings, and chicken gizzards.
The tofu was the worst, it tastes like a cigarette ash!
Pork patty:
As soon as it arrived, you could tell they used pork that wasn’t fresh, and it badly needed condiments to cover it up.
The patty was very fatty and ground with offal.

[Review 808] Apple crumble @ Stick Stick's

Stick Stick's

Not very crumbly, and there was a layer of cake in it too, which made it not so authentic as an apple crumble.
The taste was OK.

[Review 807] It's waffling good @ Green Waffle Diner
08/07/2010
Green Waffle Diner

G/F, Kar Ho Building, 35-39 Graham Street, Central
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/its-waffling-good-e2098211
It's name is intriguing, green waffles?? It turns out the green waffles are made with Pandan.
I assumed it was a place for waffles, but they also do meals too.
It is located nicely, a few doors away from the ABC hangout Berrygood, and now there is a sandwich place next to it as well.
There were so many things to choose from, so opted for two mains and a waffle at the end.
As I wanted to try the green waffle, I opted for the chicken meal which had 3 drumsticks, coleslaw and mash with gravy,
Actually I ordered it because of the mash and gravy.
The other dish ordered was the pit beef sandwich.
Chicken meal:
When it came, it was just chicken and fries, so I asked the waitress where the mash was, and she said they made a mistake, so they gave me the mash and gravy later on.
Despite that, the drumsticks were huge and juicy.
I felt that it was a lighter version of KFC, not so salty and strong on the MSG.
The quality is as good as UK's PFC, where the coating is light and crunchy.
Each drumstick was equal in size and shape, not like some of the deformed drumsticks at KFC.
The coleslaw was also like a bland version of KFC's but not sweet.
Finally the mash and gravy which I ordered this dish primarily for was so delicious, it was very buttery but not to the sickly extent.
There were lumps of potato in it, which gave it some potato taste, and the gravy was nice and strong.
Pit beef sandwich:
This was nicely presented with thinly sliced roast beef and cheese sauce on top.
The beef was freshly roasted beef.
Lastly ordered a "plain green waffle" which the waitress repeated, but when it came it was the plain one, so I said "shouldnt the waffle be green" and so she took it away and came back with a green one a while later.
Since the table opposite also asked for a green waffle, she asked them again to confirm if it was green one they wanted to ensure they got the right one too.
Finally it came, the texture was just right, crunchy on the outside and soft inside, however I was slightly disappointed as I couldnt smell or taste any pandan.
Overall the service is ok, however I think they could offer a glass of water when people sit down, considering its the scorching summer and most of Central is uphill.
They provided water when asked, and there was a slight lemon taste in it, so I reckon they had a jug of water with lemons in it, probably for customers, so why don't they offer it before people ask.

[Review 806] Best Brunch Buffet @ The Lounge (香港JW萬豪酒店) (JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong )
09/07/2010
The Lounge (香港JW萬豪酒店) (JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong )
金鐘金鐘道88號太古廣場香港JW萬豪酒店大堂
Lobby Level, JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong, Pacific Place, 88 Queensway, Admiralty
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/best-buffet-ever-e2098167
Although it was expensive, everything was perfect, apart from the foie gras which was too oily.
Out of the three admiralty pillars, conrad, shanghri La and JW Marriott, I would say this one is the best, although I have yet to try Shanghri La. Also they speak a good level of English here.
There was a nice selection of seafood and caviar, and all the people there were in orderly fashion, and well mannered.
Apart from being satisfied by their food range, I was also impressed with the drinks selection. There is unlimited fruit juice as well as a tea or coffee that is included.
The grapefruit juice was the best, pastel pink in colour and sweetened just right without taking away the natural fruit taste.
The apple juice was a nice pale green colour too.
Most impressively was the teas, there is a wall with many big glass jars that contain all the different teas, ranging from Russian tea to Floral teas.
Anyway I ordered earl grey, and they served it correctly with unfrothed milk.
While I was away getting food, I came back with a nice surprise, there was scrambled eggs with truffle at my table which was still lovely and warm.
It was the best scrambled egg I have ever had, even better than AusDairyMilkCo, it was so creamy, full bodied, and wholesome too with truffle taste reaching out to the tastebuds. Best of all, the scrambled egg was done with skill that it was very moist, almost like scrambled egg in creamy sauce.

[Review 805] Too peacefully unpeaceful @ 天下太平 World Peace Cafe
07/07/2010
天下太平 World Peace Cafe
灣仔大王東街21號
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/too-peacefully-unpeaceful-e2097870
Walked past here so many times, the exterior is grey and looks dark inside, so I always thought it was closed.
I assumed it was one of those classy places that serve western sets, however it turned out to be vegetarian.
The staff could speak a bit of English which was OK.
I came on the wrong day, because the sets on other days are much better.
Ordered two sets, one was Red curry and the other was lasagne.
The red curry had that lemon grass herb in it, and there was a small portion of pearl rice to go with it.
The Lasagne tasted like canned spinach, and the lasagne sheet wasnt proper, it was like thick tough filo pastry.
Overall, the starter was the best, beetroot and tofu.
The tables were cramped apart from the window area, and the people were very noisy making it hard to place an order.
The drinks section was Ok, I got the Piccadilly tea, which is basically just breakfast tea.
As for the pricing, is it pricier than the average pub food @$88 per set with another 10% on top.
