I am not a fan of Portuguese egg tarts at KFC, firstly because they are greasy and secondly it tastes very eggy.

However the mochi egg tart was fantastic, there was brown sugar mochi at the bottom which lessens the eggy taste, and I love brown sugar.

Before I tried it, I could smell brown sugar/caramel scent.

Then when I tried to cut it, the layer of brown sugar mochi was extremely elastic.
I had some fun stretching it to see when it would break, but from the photo you can see that it had very high plasticity!!
Its texture was like sturdy gelatin rather than the mochi type.

The only thing that let it down was the base, it was burnt, and made the egg tart taste bitter.

There are two froyo shops on this street and frankly this one stands out!!

The other one uses an orange tone, whereas this one has white and orange for its logo differientating it from other froyo's in HK.
Berrygood: white, red, pink
Bestberry: white and pastel circle
Yogurtime:white, light green and brown
Tuttimelon: pink, peach and green

The logo for this place is very cute, with two faces and a curly lock of hair on its head, the green leaf on either sides of the word "myogurt" gives it some bling, like fresh leaves sprouting with a young refreshing feeling.
The curly fonts match the curly lock of hair on the logo.
I was also lucky enough to meet the young and talented designer of this place too.

Inside the shop, it is nice and vibrant, although the bar chairs were slightly too high, as there was not much space between the seat and table hence slightly cramped for people with larger thighs.

Anyway, there were two yogurt flavours, original and passionfruit.
Tried both, the original was slightly too sweet, but the passionfruit was just right.
The taste reminded me of the supermarket dairy yogurt, and it tasted more like mango than passionfruit.

For toppings I chose grapefruit, which went nicely with it.
As an improvement, it would be good if they labelled the toppings, although some are pretty obvious eg strawberry, etc.

[Review 832] Irish boxty pancake @ Delaney's Wanchai

With so many pancakes in HK, or known as crepes for the French, Boxty is the Irish savory version.

Boxty, is a traditional Irish potato pancake served wrapped around beef, squash and sauce. The dish is popular in Northern Ireland where it is know locally as poundy or poundies; also known as potato bread in Ulster).

There are many different versions but all contain finely grated, raw potatoes, the common version consists of finely grated raw potato and mashed potato with flour, baking soda, buttermilk and sometimes egg.

The mixture is fried on a griddle pan for a few minutes on each side, similar to a normal pancake. Boxty was seen as part of the local culture in the areas in which it was made, that the following poem was written-

Boxty on the griddle,
Boxty in the pan,
If you can't make boxty,
You'll never get a man.

Ordered the beef and Guinness one, which consists of beef taken from the carvery and rich gravy sauce and Guinness.
The guinness gives it a slight bitter taste, and the pancake is not as light as the pancake/crepe version, it is slightly thicker and moist due to the potatoes.
There are lot so shredded onions in it too, which is a complement with gravy and beef.

Apart from beef, there is also chicken, vegetarian and lamb to choose from.
It would be interesting if they had chili con carne or Mexican fillings inside too.

[Review 831] Caramel HK style tea @ 美心MX Maxim's MX

Maxim's has come up with a cute plastic container for their Hong Kong style tea range.
There are three flavours: Original, caramel and coffee.
Basically, the tea is the same but caramel jelly pieces and coffee bubbles are added to the other ones.
The tea is served as a cold drink, and it basically has the taste of typical HK tea, namely the strong condensed milk and bitterness.
The caramel bits were slightly too soft, and its taste was overpowered by the tea.

I had totally forgotten about this place, until my phone mysteriously rang them one day.

Anyway, the noodles in spring onion sauce that was not previously on the menu was interesting so ordered one priced at $10 for takeout.

The bowl of noodles was rather small.

Before I opened the lid, it looked rather dark green from the opaque lid.
I thought to myself hmmm.
When I opened it, it was very green indeed! The noodles was covered with coarsely cut spring onions and coriander.

The noodles below were clumped together, but still soft.
It tasted like those alkaline noodles, but they were so soft, it tasted like egg noodles.

The sauce was abit too salty, but overall it tasted quite good.

[Review 829] Blue forest cake @ 伯伯加奴 PPG PPG (Pappagallo . Pastries . Gelato)

I know it is meant to be black forest cake, but the fact it had blueberries instead of cherries, I am calling it a blue forest cake!
The sponge was too light and crumbly, not spongy at all.
The whole cake was not firm, and it didnt really taste like black forest cake.

[Review 828] Cheese rice rolls @ 海皇粥店 Ocean Empire Food Shop

When I saw their promotional poster, I just had to try it, they reminded me of those round fried Japanese mochi/rice cakes with the cheese in the middle and glutinous filling.

Basically it is rice roll rolled with cheese inside coated with batter and fried.

It tastes quite similar to the japanese mochi cake, however there is less glutinous filling replaced by the chewy mozarella cheese.
The cheese taste wasnt that strong, and the sauce that came with it was the Japanese mayonnaise, making it taste even more like that Japanese rice cake.

I would have preferred it if they used a different cheese, mozarella only has a chewy texture but no taste.
It is quite worth trying, and something that is quite different to the usual rice rolls.
