[Review 1014] Lemon cheesecake @ Pret A Manger

Got the lemon cheesecake here because the texture of the cheese was as light as mousse.
I would have preferred it, if it was more tangy.
As a cheesecake, it tastes as good as the Lemon cheesecake from UK's Marks and spencer, but the taste isnt so strong.
If it could taste more tangy, I would be back for more.
Overall it was very mousse like and the cheese taste wasnt strong. I would have liked a ginger biscuit base too.
Whilst taking the cheesecake out, there was a label stuck on the cheesecake box, which I usually rip of with brut force, but somehow I peeled it off gently and found a "cute" note about their "nasty" packaging.

[Review 1013] Taiwanese version of the obanyaki (Imagawayaki) @ 醬爆果子燒

This shop looked interesting, tiny but with all the intricate details of a Taiwanese stall.

The snacks look exactly like the Japanese obanyaki's which are filled with savoury or sweet fillings.
It is made of batter and heated in the waffle iron and the filled with fillings. The common fillings are custard, fruits, red beans, and other savoury items.

As well as round ones, they also have triangular ones!!

However these are more artistic because the shell has a different coloured batter that creates a pattern as shown on their poster.
The slight difference is that the two halves are not completely sealed, so the fillings ooze out, so perhaps this is why they are called "jeung bau" but it makes it very messy to eat.

There were ten flavours to choose from, printed on their paper bags:
Cheese and onion with chicken
Black peppar, sweetcorn and tuna
Rich taro
Strawberry and cream
Peach and custard
Original custard
Green tea and red bean puree
Original red beans
Belgian chocolate and custard

They cost $10 each, or $27 for three, so I got three and tried the following flavours, 2 savoury and 1 sweet.

Black pepper, sweetcorn and tuna

Cheese, onion and chicken

Peach and custard

After paying, I was given a ticket, so I took a walk around the area, I managed to buy other snacks slowly and returned they were still not ready, but I could see that they were making one flavour at each time.

When they were done, they were presented in box, the halves were not really sealed, which is very messy to eat, so decided to eat them in halves.

The peach one was nice, the filling for the savoury alone were good, especially the pepper, because it was freshly grounded black pepper.
However for the savoury one, the batter was sweet, which didnt really go well together.
The batter could have been cooked more thoroughly because the outside was crispy, but the inside was still floury.

Not sure if they are meant to be like that, because for the Japanese version, the filling is totally encased inside the shell.

Tried their signature beef patty cakes, flat disc shapes of beef patty.

I thought the texture was going to be soft like the usual minced patties, but it was hard like minced chicken and gristle.
The beef taste wasn’t that strong, as for the noodles, they all taste the same, unless the broth is extra strong or tasteless, or the vermicelli is thinner or thicker.

As for the squid it was so soft!!

Apart from that, they had an English menu which was Brilliant especially for a noodle shop.

[Review 1011] Steamed egg white with Hasmar Jelly @

There are various versions of steamed egg white, hasmar jelly, bird's nest and the plain one.

The taste of the egg white was bland, but you could taste a hint of ginger, but no milkyness or eggyness.

Anyway, the hasmar jelly and the bird's nest are just added on top if you choose those ones.

[Review 1010] Edible confectionery and nourishment for skin @ Chocolat-ier

Walked past and saw this cute shop selling confectionery and skin care products made of Chocolate.
It reminded me of LUSH and SKINFOOD.
Although they specialise in chocolate skin care, they have chocolate confectionery too such as chocolate and nuts, a big range on yoghurt covered berries, chocolate covered nuts and gift sets.

For the yoghurt-covered fruit, there were cranberries, strawberries, pineapples, cherries, blueberries, raspberries and nuts too.

The ones that had real dried fruit were pineapple, blueberry, cherry and raspberry, the strawberry and cranberry were like a berry version of maltesers.

They are said to be able to keep for a year without going off, but Hong Kong is a hot and humid place, which makes it difficult and the fact you cant stop eating them!
Yoghurt covered dried fruit and nuts are very common and cheap in the UK, infact you can get them at Pick and Mix stalls.

The staffs at the shop had pretty eyes and spoke good English.

Chocolate almond:
This was very impressive, there was a good ratio of chocolate and almond, and it was not too sweet, I was told it had a slight savoury taste. It is a good one to start off with, because the taste isn’t so intense.

Chocolate covered nuts:
My favourite was the brazilian nut, they had chocolate sunflower seeds too!

Yoghurt covered fruits:
Overall they were good, the texture of the yoghurt coating was a bit like marzipan, and sugary icing.
The taste was not too sweet or overpowering and it complements the fruit.
The pineapple was nice, but I found the texture of the pineapple bit too moist and soft.

The cherry and blueberry were the best, especially the blueberry because it had a strong taste, and it was slightly chewy too and the berries are not freeze dried.

For the raspberry it was a whole freeze-dried berry inside which gives it a different experience and the coating was decorative too. It is similar to the Japanese versions.

The cranberry and strawberry ones were like berry maltesers!

Anyway the white yoghurt covered ones are a must try, because the yoghurt covering is different from the Japanese sugary ones.

I was quite surprised there hadnt been any reviews and it wasnt listed, despite it is right next to Crumbs, Kami Teapresso, that new taiwanese grilled cakes and Roll across the road.

Despite it is called Yuen Long jing gay, there are no shops in Yuen Long
Basically this noodle joint in the food court specialises in the mouth numbing hot and sour Sichuan noodles.
As well as the standard rice noodles (mai sin), they also a do a thinner type of noodles called “dragon beard noodles”.
I got the dragon beard noodles and picked two sides, the soft bone pork and spicy ground julienne potatoes.
The bowl of noodles was presented nicely and came with lots of other treasures such as pickled vegetables, beancurd skin, beanshoots etc.
The noodles were the best, but as you eat them, they become softer from absorbing the soup, and the soup gets thicker from the starchiness from the noodles.
Apart from noodles served in broth, there is also the one in sauce, which is good as well, however the sauce one is slightly oily.
Although there are not many reviews, there are many people queuing up for it and I like the way they can served their noodles not spicy for people who want to try Sichuan noodles.

Usually when I walk past the food looks inviting and sometimes not, this time the bittermelon and red beancurd looked delicious so I got them.
The red beancurd was strong and creamy yet not greasy. I wish I was given more tofu though as it was mainly vegetables.
The bitter melon was soft and cooked well, not too bitter.
With rice, you can either choose two main dishes or three.
The curry fried rice was nice too, but too hot as it contained grounded chili powder.
