鳳城新鴻苑 Fung Shing Sun Hung Yuen
灣仔交加街18號地下 18 Cross St,, Wan Chai
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/fung-shing-confusion-at-the-cross-boundary-e2157648
It makes me curious whether 鳳城小食 and 鳳城新鴻苑 are owned by the same owner, the shops are a few doors away from each other and the names both have Fung Shing to begin with.
The reviews from the two restaurants appear to be mixed up, some that belong in the other one are in this one and some that belong in the other one appear in this one.
Anyway 鳳城小食 serves mainly snacks such as instant noodles, pork chops, and hot dogs, while 鳳城新鴻苑 serves Fung Shing dumplings and noodles.
I ordered the signature Fung Shing dumplings and fish skin dumplings.
The Fung Shing dumplings were nice, they seem to be a prawnier version of wonton with less meat and more prawns and some black fungus.
The shape is slightly longer not like the round wontons.
The fish skin wrapped dumplings were slightly too oily, but if they were deep fried, it would probably taste nicer.
Instead of noodles they offer macaroni which is cool, I've never had macaroni with the traditional wontons!!

[Review 1030] Tea Buffet @ cafe TOO
23/03/2011
cafe TOO
金鐘金鐘道88號太古廣場二座港島香格里拉酒店7樓
7/F, Island Shangri-La Hong Kong, Two Pacific Place, 88 Queensway, Admiralty
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/cafe-too-tea-buffet-e2157265
I was looking forward to the buffet at Café TOO, but it turned out to be a disappointment.
It seems that the Brunch and Dinner sessions had a better variety according to the reviews.
Quite a number of dishes were not labelled, so unless they were blatantly obvious or you are a local from HK, you wouldn’t know what they were.
The dim-sum was quite nice, and the fruit salad was the best, it was finely chopped pineapples, sweet strawberries, melons in orange juice.
The appetiser crystal noodle in sesame sauce was interesting, because the crystal noodles were thinner than the usual types.
In the hot section, there were some delicious things looking like green larvae, made of flour and green vegetables, but again they were not labelled.
The dessert section didn’t do very well, they were not very popular with the diners, and no one really took them.
There was some taro paste thing, which was pretty, but tasted too sweet, the red discs on it were Hawthorn cakes.
The chocolate éclair, which I thought was good, was a bit too sickly, the chocolate cream inside was a bit too sweet.

[Review 1029] 500th Ajisen Ramen store in the mainland @ 味千拉麵 Ajisen Ramen

Ajisen Ramen celebrates its 500th store in Japan, so there is some sort of promotion going on.
Tried the new products: Volcanic spicy noodles: and the Grilled minced chicken with cheese:.
Volcanic spicy noodles:
The noodles were paler than the product shot.
On the menu it was rated not so spicy, and the taste was Ok, not that spicy.
The pork turned out to be more delicious than they looked.
It reminds me of the braised pork belly in beancurd sauce, however the taste was that of “mouth watering chicken” [hau shui gaai].
The chilli they used was exactly the same as the “mouth watering one” leaving a minty feeling on the tongue.
The noodles were too sweet and the other flavouring could have been stronger.
Grilled minced chicken with cheese:
This tasted like the grilled minced chicken at Yoshinoya, but they were made of patties and two of them skewered on the stick with cheese on top.
There were some vegetables present in the minced chicken.
Overall, it tasted OK

[Review 1028] $98 Dessert Buffet @ 金田日本料理 Kaneda Japanese Restaurant
23/03/2011
金田日本料理 Kaneda Japanese Restaurant
灣仔莊士敦道74-80號1樓
1/F, Fraser Suites, 74-80 Johnston Road, Wan Chai
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/desserts-buffet-at-98-per-person-e2157200
I have been wanting to go to Ant One’s for the dessert buffet, but it is only available in the evenings, however when I walked past Kaneda, I saw the dessert buffet for only $98 per person including bottomless drinks.
There are a total of 22 desserts to choose from which is about the same as Ant One, however Ant One offers Chinese desserts as well. Although Kaneda doesn’t have Chinese desserts such as fried sweet dumplings, it was not a loss to me since I do not like Chinese desserts. The items that I wanted to try at Ant One were also available at Kaneda.
The desserts available were:
1) Chocolate cake with molten chocolate filling 2) Baked walnut cake 3) Italian cheese cake 4) Mango puff pastry 5) Green tea and red bean mousse 6) Strawberry pancake with custard cream 7) Ice-cream skewer 8) Serradura pudding 9) Creme brulee 10) Honey milk pudding 11) Apple crumble 12) Mango souffle 13) Mango pudding 14) Fruit profiteroles 15) Banana pancake with custard 16) Baked egg white with almond 17) Almond sorbet 18) Assorted cakes of the day 19) Chocolate milk pudding
20) Various ice-creams 21) Mango pancake with custard 22) Strawberry yoghurt mousse
23) Blueberry cheesecake nice sour berries 24) Mango cheesecake 25) Mango cake
1) Chocolate cake with molten chocolate filling
This was piping hot and the size of the ice-cream scoop and chocolate cake was super mini, it was slightly smaller than a tablespoon.
2) Baked walnut cake
This was not too sweet, nice and chewy, it was made of 90% walnuts and sweet syrup.
3) Italian cheese cake - Didn’t try.
4) Mango puff pastry
This was layers of puff pastry sandwiched with custard cream topped with mangoes.
5) Green tea and red bean mousse - didnt try
6) Strawberry pancake with custard cream - Didnt try, but tried the banana pancake.
7) Ice-cream skewer - Didn’t try
8) Serradura pudding
This tasted like the usual serradura pudding, very creamy.
L:honeymilkpudding R:sawdust pudding
9) Creme brulee - This tasted how it should
10) Honey milk pudding - Nice and creamy but the taste of honey was light
11) Apple crumble - Nice, but too many raisins.
12) Mango souffle - My favourite, but slightly too sweet, there were small pieces of real mango fruit
13) Mango pudding - Didn’t try
14) Fruit profiteroles - Didnt try
15) Banana pancake with custard - The custard cream in it tasted fake and floury
16) Baked egg white with almond - Tasted ok.
17) Almond sorbet - This was my favourite, nutty with plenty of almonds and a rich cake base
18) Assorted cakes of the day
19) Chocolate milk pudding - didnt try
20) Various ice-creams - didnt try
21) Mango pancake with custard
22) Strawberry yoghurt mousse
Another one of my favourites, the strawberry flavouring wasn’t fake and it was refreshing with the yogurt ingredient.
23) Blueberry cheesecake
24) Mango cheesecake - Didnt try.
25) Mango cake
The desserts were served in tiny cups and dishes, there was a fresh plastic spoon every time, which not that environmentally friendly.
There were metal cutleries too, but the spoon couldn’t fit in the tiny dessert cups.
Improvements:
It would be good if there was a side plate to rest my used cutlery rather than directly on the table.

Getting “Dressed” with a Raspberyy cheese Cake Smoothie.
Last time I tried the avocado smoothie, now the Raspberry cheesecake smoothie.
Again, the sweetness of their smoothies are worth commending, they are just right, not too sweet and you can still taste the tartness of the yoghurt.
The Raspberry cheese cake smoothie however didnt surprise me as much as the Avocado, the taste reminded me of the Raspberry Petit Filous by Yoplait.
The cream cheese was however surprisingly prominent in the drink, it was creamy, and slightly savoury, so its a bit like the Petit Filous with a slight savoury taste.
The cream cheese reminded me of Philadelphia spread!

https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/roast-beef-delux-triple-o-e2156978
The roast beef delux was a simple burger that was simply delicious.
It is wafer thin sliced roast beef topped with horse radish and mayonnaise sauce sandwiched between the burger.
There were no other garnishings, the beef tasted gorgeous with the horseradish sauce.
When you open the wrapping there is a big piece of Guerkin to put inside the burger or have separately.
I had mine separately because I wanted to try the beef and the bun alone.
The whole burger was light and healthy.
The bun was nice and soft.

[Review 1025] $10 $10 $10 $10 $10 $10 $10 $10 $10 $10 @ 權記雲吞麵 Kuen Kee Won Ton Noodle

I am surprised that this shop does not have many reviews, despite they have many branches on the HK Island in Central, Western central and North Point. They are famous for $10 noodles with wonton.
I remembered that there was another branch on Wan Chai road, only because of the $10 promotion, but I never ventured in there because the weather was too hot or there were too many people inside. Anyway that store has now closed down, and the remaining branch in Wan Chai is this one.
As well as this one, there are also some other noodle shops beside it and the popular Nam Kee across the road.
I never noticed this place because it is hard to stop by and the pavement is so narrow that there is only enough space for one person.
This is last branch in HK that sell the noodles at $10 per bowl, the rest of the branches have raised their prices.
The prices at the other places are around $12 for a bowl of noodles, and there used to be eight branches on HK island, now 7 after the one in Wan Chai road shut down.
Basically the choice of noodles are vermicelli, ho fun and the wonton noodles.
It’s the usual Chinese noodle taste, nothing spectacular, the noodles just act as a filler.
Unless the broth makes the noodles taste good, or the noodles are different, there is nothing to mention in my point of view.
This is probably why there is always pots of chilli oil, red vinegar and fish sauce around for people to use.
However the wonton noodles here are ok, they are nice and soft not like elastic bands.
Their wontons are good!! They are very big and contain at least two intact prawns inside, some of them may not be de-gutted but as it only costs $10, you can’t really expect much.
The beef balls and pork balls (gung yuen) taste ok, same with the squid balls.
pure white squid balls
pork balls
The seaweed soup is quite nice, however the seaweed may contain sand.
Seaweed soup
The dace fishballs were ok, the texture is similar to the steamed beef balls found in dimsum.
There were lots of silvery and white bits in the dace ball, bones and fish scales, so it wasn’t that edible to me, but apart from that it does taste nice.
Dace fishballs and fish skin dumplings
The dumplings wrapped in fish skin were good too, slightly oily inside. It would be good if you could get fried dumplings wrapped in fish skin, I reckon that would taste quite nice, and the fish skin would taste nicer after frying.
They also do fish cake slices with noodles sprinkled with plenty of spring onions.
