As always the food is always flawless at J Marriott’s Lounge.
This was my second visit, hence I was better prepared.
The problem is, the food is excellent from salad to desserts, so save some space for dessert.
Last time I came, there wasn’t Abalone sashimi, but this time it was available, the abalone came in slices, and it tasted great on its own without sauce. It was very sweet.
The fruit juices were refillable.
Most importantly to finish of a good buffet is to drink a good tea or coffee.
I didn’t realised there was a whole book of choices for tea, there are some which you need to pay extra, but the complimentary tea’s and coffee’s are already superior enough.
I tried the Wife cake, which I previously didn’t and that tasted nice coming from someone who does not really favour Chinese food.
Throughout the meal, there were other delicacies brought to your table such as scrambled egg with truffle and potato cakes, and grilled tomato.

[Review 1127] Pancakes @ The Flying Pan

Been here numerous times and have tried the nearly everything except the pancakes.

The soup is a new item that wasnt there last time.

Anyway this time ordered the scrambled eggs with chicken patty, grits, tomato soup and pancakes.

For the tomato soup, it was very natrual, there are real bits of tomato in it.
It was quite funny because it was supplied with a chinese ceramic spoon.

As for the pancake, it was really nice too, soft and light.

However I think next time I will ask for it without the butter.

[Review 1126] Portobello Mushroom and Chips @ 椰林閣餐廳 Yeh Lam Kok Restaurant

I love Portobello mushrooms, so I got the grilled Portobello mushroom with chips.
It was a plate of chips/potato wedges and a big mushroom.
The mushroom was covered in cheese and Chinese salad cream, which ruined it.
The Chinese salad cream made it sweet and slightly sour.
The chips were fried nicely and not too burnt.
The meal wasn’t that filling, but at least I had a chance of eating Portobello mushroom instead of having it in a burger joint.

Before that, there was soup as starter and it was interesting to find octopus/squid tentacles in it.

[Review 1125] Fried macaroni and cheese @ Bee Two French Baguette & Coffee

Since reading Blue Smoke Bar-B-Que reviews
[http://www.openrice.com/restaurant/sr2.htm?shopid=45983]
I have wanted to try the MAC and CHEESE, which is fried macaroni and cheese shaped in a ball and coated in batter.
Then I found out Bee Two French Baguette & Coffee had a similar thing, but in triangular nugget form!
Made a trip over Easter into the brightly yellow decorated shop and ordered the fried cheese macaroni and potato balls.
The fried snacks were drizzled with mustard, the colour just like the shop!
Thankfully the sauce was not sweet which would’ve spoilt it, but next time I shall ask for it without.
The cheese and macaroni didn’t disappoint me and I loved the melted cheddar cheese inside.
At first it is daunting to go in because the owner looks huge and scary, but he is actually friendly.
Next time I will have to try the baguettes and mini hotdog, but it is quite cramped inside, and there are no eat-out areas in Prince Edward.

[Review 1124] Free buffet thanks to Open Rice @ Harbour Grand Café

Thanks to the coupons given by OpenRice I was able to have a free lunch there.
The hotel was very easy to get there, it is just a few roads across from Fortress Hill MTR facing the sea.
I really liked the dessert section especially the soufflés and the ice-cream, they also had yogurt ice-cream which tasted refreshing. The other flavours I liked were pistachio and chocolate.
They had free flow of juices, and it was fun mixing them, the melon one was nice, but slightly too sweet, but was nice after mixing it with grapefruit juice.
The chocolate earl grey cake is also a must try item, the chocolate taste is nicely infused with earl grey taste.
In the salad section, the mozzarella slices and tomato was nice with pesto dressing and pinenuts.

[Review 1123] Maxim's Laksa @ 美心MX Maxim's

Found out there was Laksa, so ordered one.

There was a choice of chicken or beef, so I picked the beef and also ordered the dessert because it looked colourful on the menu.

Laksa:
The Laksa was quite good for Maxim's standard, especially the soup.
The soup is thinner than the authentic ones, but it was slightly spicy and has a strong prawn base flavouring.
The only thing that let it down was the vermicelli, it does not soak up the soup.
It was a case of vermicelli tasting like vermicelli, unless you put the soup in your mouth as well.
The Laksa had the combination of basic ingredients that i felt were Vietnamese, such as Vietnamese sausage, shredded chicken, and tofu puffs.

Dessert:
This came with the noodles for an $8, it consisted of three pieces of sweet puddings: sweetcorn pudding, taro and sago pudding and red bean pudding.
The taro was quite bland, and the sago pearls kept falling out.
The sweetcorn one was a bit sweet but was the best.
The redbean one is not my cup of tea, but the jelly that bound it together was crystal clear and pretty.
The spoon that came with the dessert was really really nice!

Overall MX's food seems to be improving, especially the packaging and cutlery.
Previously I had caramel milk tea because I liked the cup they used not because of the drink!

[Review 1122] Finally got the sweet potato steamed bun @ 唐記包點 Tong Kee Bao Dim

Previously tried the taro bun which was nice, but this was even nicer, no wonder it is ALWAYS sold out.
Anyway, this branch is quite good, because it has been here for along time, so most people have tried it the sweet potato.
The sweet potato steamed bun costs $3.5 and the shape is oval and also lilac in colour, the top of the bun has some lines on it to distinguish it from the taro, even though the shape already does.
