[Review 1219] Finally tried the Fish Maw @ 萬豪咖啡室 Marriott Cafe

Apart from The Lounge at JW’s I have always wanted to try Marriot Café.
Marriot Café is slightly cheaper than The Lounge, however the range at Marriot Café is more Chinese.
The environment is noisier than The Lounge, which is expected, because there are more locals there for Chinese cuisine.
The carvery had chicken, which was good for people who do not eat beef.
The chicken tasted like Tandoori chicken and there were about eight different sauces. The green one (mustard with tarragon) was the best.

The abalone and fish maw tasted how it should, but theses days they can be bought cheaply at the supermarket, but it is a matter of cooking it.
Refills of food and drink were faster here than The Lounge, however the choice of drinks that were included were not as good as The Lounge.

It would be cool if they had a super expensive buffet which has all the highlights of JW such as caviar, lobster, abalone and fishmaw.

[Review 1218] The Noodle Party @ Wing Kee Noodle 榮記粉麵 (灣仔)

榮記粉麵 Wing Kee Noodle

Wing Kee Noodles are really famous in Causeway Bay on Sugar Street and this is their second shop on Tin Lok Lane which is a stretch that divides CWB and Wan Chai.
Unfortunately this branch didn't survive but then it is hard for any joint to survive in this stretch because it is not that convenient.

This time got the one with all the items thrown in, I was able to try the chicken wing tips.

They were quite slippery to pick up with the chopsticks, but overall it was really nice, but a bit too fatty for my liking since it is just chicken skin.

The bowl of noodles contained pig skin, bloodcurd cubes, porkballs, radish, ox stomach.

[Review 1217] Balencia bread that is similar to Bo-logne @ Cafe Balencia (旺角)

Balencia bread that is similar to Bo-logne

Last time wanted to get this bread here, but I didnt realise it was not part of the restaurant.

Anyway, the bread looks similar to the one at bologne, especially the crust.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
It is natrually sweet and tastes better after toasting.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The chocolate and cinnamon toast tasted too sweet, but the cinnamon powder was very strong.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The mochi donuts had two flavours: custard and chocolate.
The custard one tasted better and not too sweet.
The chocolate was one too strong.
Basically it was a mochi fried like a donut.

[Review 1216] Another ramen shop in Wan Chai @ 山川拉麵館

12/07/2011

山川拉麵館
灣仔廈門街7-17號百旺都中心地下B舖
Shop b, G/F, Hundred City Centre, 7-11 Amoy Street, Wan Chai
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/another-ramen-shop-in-wan-chai-e2181104

This noodle joint is located on Amoy Street, an alleyway in Wan Chai between Queen's road East and Johnston Road.
Previously this joint used to be 波記車仔撈麵 a small noodle shop that seated about 10 people.
It can now sit more people probably about 14 with tables closely packed to each other.

The inside has been decorated nicely with a hint of Japanese style.
The style of the food here is roughly the same as before, featuring noodles and grilled items but now serving Ramen noodles.
Each table was laid with simple tablecloth, and laid with a bamboo mat, black chopsticks and spoon, and basic condiments.

This is the second ramen shop to open in Wanchai, after the opening of 幸亭拉麵 which is seated outside.

Although both these joints do not serve the thin noodles like butao, this one is much cheaper, but the soup at 幸亭拉麵 is better.
It costs $38 for a bowl of noodles with a choice of pork bone broth or miso broth, and a choice of udon or ramen.

The presentation of the noodles on the menu is similar to Ajisen served with meat, shittaake mushrooms, bonito flakes, sweetcorn, bamboo shoots, sesame, enoki mushrooms, and the pink and white slice.

The ordering sheet is a piece of paper with choices to tick split up into three parts, noodles, grilled items and drinks.
It has English and Chinese.
As they have newly opened, all noodles come with green tea which costs $5 a la carte.
I didn’t try the grilled fish, but the staff said it was about 30cm in length, which was true from the picture of one that was eaten by someone else.

Overall, I felt this was a localised version of Ramen. The price of the noodles was very reasonable at $38 per bowl.

[Review 1215] Wow a second TKBD branch in Hang Hau @ 唐記包點 Tong Kee Bao Dim

10/07/2011
唐記包點  Tong Kee Bao Dim

Woops I dont know what happened, but after uploading they went a weird colour!
Anyway will try and replace it with colour IF i can find the backup!

Interesting consumer trends, at other branches of TKBD the sweet potato bun is always sold out, but here it is the egg custard bun.

I prefer this one because it seems more organised and its closer to the MTR.
The shop before used to be honolulu cake shop.

The egg custard bun was ok, the filling was a bit like curd and thick, but it was too sweet.
It would be cool if they had different fillings such as strawberry n cream, or apricot jam, or even ice-cream.

[Review 1214] Hazelnut Muffin @ 星巴克咖啡 Starbucks Coffee

Ordered a hazelnut chocolate muffin and they asked me if I wanted it heated up, so decided to try it warm.
It was quite nice warmed, you could smell the chocolate and hazelnut.
It wasnt too sweet.

[Review 1213] Lunches @ Amici

10/07/2011

Amici
灣仔駱克道81-85號霸田商業中心1樓
1/F, Empire Land Commercial Centre, 81-85 Lockhart Road, Wan Chai
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/lunches-amici-e2180676

The lunch deals here are quite good, especially the drinks, there are fruit teas but I had the ginger ale and lime soda.

The pizza here is good because there are two halves, vegetarian half and the other half was meat.
Usually the vegetarian side of things are tasteless, but here the vegetarian half of the pizza was stronger in taste than the meat side.
The courgettes and mushrooms were delicious.

The fish and rice was OK, but I would have preferred risotto but they didnt have it that week.

The only disappointing thing was the minestrone soup, because alot of minestrone soups in Hong Kong are just vegetable soup and do not contain any pasta at all!

The service was good, there was actually a piece of card with my booking name on the table
