Years ago when there was not much sushi restaurants about, Genki and G.Sushi were the only choice.
Sushi is getting cheap these days, you can get cheap sushi for $3 each at Sushi Express, most of the items at Genki can be bought there.
I was a bit shocked the sushi here didn't taste as fresh as Sushi Express and it was slightly more expensive as well.

The food used to be good, but when I went this time the sushi was too salty.
The seaweed used for the Handroll had gone off, it was not crispy and very chewy.
The soup was too salty that it needed diluting.

[Review 1293] A green 缽仔糕!!!!!! A real head turner @ 濠江豆業 Macau Soya Bean

I hardly ever buy from this place, because all the products are too Chinesey such as glutinous desserts, silky tofu, etc. There were a few green items I wanted to get, but to my dismay they told me it was Green Tea and not Pandan.
Despite the fact I do not like Chinesey green tea combinations such as green tea and red bean.
I got this mint green 缽仔糕 expecting it would be green tea and red bean! The usual boring combination.
To be honest I never eat 缽仔糕, they are usually too sweet and I hate red beans.
To my surprise when I was taking the photo I could smell coconut, a good sign!
The pudding was firm, and the beans were nice and hard, not too starchy.
The sweetness was just right and the texture was like dense jelly.
As I am not really a red bean lover, it would be cool if it the red beans were chocolate chips.
They should be more adventurous and make more flavours!!!
Flavours I think they should make:
Mint with chocolate chips, Strawberry with strawberry pieces, Chocolate with crushed peanut, coffee.
The list could be endless.

[Review 1292] The best chippy in Hong Kong and it is true @ Chippy
26/09/2011
Chippy
中環威靈頓街51A地下
G/F, 51A Wellington Street, Central
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/the-best-chippy-in-hong-kong-and-it-is-true-e2196717
Being an expat, the most missed thing is roast dinners, fish and chips and the English style Chinese takeaway foods.
I have read numerous reviews that this place is the best for fish and chips but I was not familiar with Central and those narrow streets similar to THE LANES in Brighton.
Anyway, finally managed to locate it one day and it looks and smells the same as the British Fish and Chip shops.
They even had pickled eggs and gherkins in glass jars.
The familiar boards with chalk writings and the local catch of the day were there as well.
After I sat down, I was given a menu.
There were so many choices of fish as you would expect.
On the table, there was the good old Sarson’s vinegar bottle! [not sure if it was real Sarson’s vinegar inside though.]
It was hard deciding what to order and they had my favourite chips with curry sauce or gravy too.
In the end I chose Fish cake and chips and Cheese and onion pie with chips.
The food came quite fast.
Although the chips looked over done and dark, they tasted amazing.
The potatoes are freshly cut and fried.
++++++++++
Fish cake and chips
This was a REAL fishcake!! The ones I had at school, ground fish with herbs and some mashed potato inside a crispy crumb coating. I went mad with the vinegar and put loads on the chips and fishcake.
Along with the fishcake there was the classic mushy peas and real tartar sauce.
+++++++++++
Cheese onion pie
It was the same as the school ones, thick gooey cheese inside with slivers of molten onion.
Its hard to explain but it is not sickening or creamy, but really cheddary and gooey but not stringy.
The cheese becomes firm after it has cooled down for a while.
It came with gravy too!
+++++++++
Freshly squeezed lemon drink which was very refreshing.
+++
It was really comforting because they had deep fried mar’s bars, although I was really hoping to see Bubble and squeak on the menu too!
Let’s hope that will be on the menu soon.

Not my usual fare because I dislike grills and Teppanyaki's because of the grease.
I just tried this for fun, but the restaurant's air conditioning was FREEZING!!!!!!!!
It was Teppanyaki with pomelo sauce.
Butter was used on the plate to grill the food.
The set consists of beef, bacon wrapped frankfurters, onions, green pepper, sweetcorn, egg and crab.
Basically anyone can cook this without any cooking knowledge, but you just have to know if the meat is cooked or not.
Overall it tasted OK, the sauce was thick and the beef remained juicy.
The pomelo sauce was slightly syrupy though.
The service was rubbish because I was not given the cooker until I requested one from one of the waiters who was clearing the tables.

[Review 1290] Baker’s Boy bakes his way from Malay with Mex buns @ 貝克男孩 Bakers Boy

https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/bakers-boy-bakes-his-way-from-malay-with-mex-buns-e2196715
Baker’s Boy opened in 2003, Kuala Lumpur selling Mexican buns.
This is their first branch in Hong Kong!
I wonder why they chose Tseung Kwan O for their first branch in HK?!?!
As well as Hong Kong, they have bakeries in Taiwan, China, Singapore, Korea and Thailand.
I have never come across Mexican buns in UK, Europe or even Mexico so it must be an Asian thing.
Anyway, the appearance is similar to the crispy milk bun, but the top crust is much thinner and lighter.
Their buns attracted me because they are small and available in eleven flavours.
I did not buy on my first visit because the Pandan flavour was out of stock.
The eleven flavours are: vanilla, peanut, orange, chocolate, strawberry, coconut, pandan, durian, banana, mango and coffee.
The buns cost $10 for 3, so I chose pandan, banana and coffee.
The flavouring was really strong that you could smell it from a distance.
Baker's Boy reminded me of Jimcus Donuts because at Jimcus they also have lots of flavours but flavoured powders were used instead of the essenses at BB.

Pandan flavour
This was my favourite, It was not green, but the Pandan flavour was strong.

Coffee flavour
This was also another strong flavour. I only got this because it was recommended on the Baker's Boy website.
◎ⓢⓤⓟⓔⓡⓢⓤⓟⓔⓡⓖⓘⓡⓛ◎ⓢⓤⓟⓔⓡⓢⓤⓟⓔⓡⓖⓘⓡⓛ◎
Banana flavour
This was the worst, I think I will not choose fruit flavours because the taste was exactly like Banana chewing gum!
It was so fake and smelt of solvents!
◎ⓢⓤⓟⓔⓡⓢⓤⓟⓔⓡⓖⓘⓡⓛ◎ⓢⓤⓟⓔⓡⓢⓤⓟⓔⓡⓖⓘⓡⓛ◎
It would be fun if it these buns had real fruit in the middle or flavoured cream according to the flavour of the bun.

In general the pastries at BreadTalk are really good.
This particular blueberry danish is always sold out.
The shape of this danish is like a bowl, in the centre there is custard cream, and on top it is topped with blueberry jam with lots of real blueberries.
I like to eat the edges of the pastry first with the blueberries then moving to the centre with custard cream and some blueberry jam.
