I tried this place in June last year and felt that it had the potential to be famous but I never thought they would be recommended by Michelin.
After that there were long queues so I did not go again, but when I went past there was no queue so I went in.
Sat down by the window and saw that there will be another branch opening accross the road!!
They still served the same rice-rolls as the last visit, however the price has gone up from $15 per dish to $19 per dish, the price range of rice-rolls served in dim sum restaurants.
I ordered the duck rice rolls again, and they appeared slightly thinner than my first visit.
Even when I walked in, the other peoples rice rolls were thinner and they were wrapped very taut.
Although the rolls were dinkier than before, it was more manageable because it was more bite size!
The rice-rolls took longer to arrive as well.
Anyway, it still tasted nice because the rice-roll wrap was al-dente and there was generous sweet soy sauce to go with the rice rolls.

[Review 1415] Lunch @ Assaggio Trattoria Italiana
14/01/2012
Assaggio Trattoria Italiana
灣仔港灣道2號香港藝術中心6樓
6/F, Hong Kong Arts Centre, 2 Harbour Road, Wan Chai
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/lunch-assaggio-trattoria-italiana-e2214496
Previously tried this place in the evening and the service was not that good.
Tried it again for lunch and the restaurant was full of people, they seemed to be short staffed hence service was slow.
Although the service was slow, they had knowledge about the food and were able to explain what food it was instead of reading back the dish name when asked.
Ordered the soup for starters and the artichoke risotto for the mains.
Both the food and drinks took ages to arrive and requesting for the bill proved to be a patient task because all the waiters were busy.
Anyway, the soup was basically clear chicken broth with pieces of liver and a few strands of thin tagliatelle.
The pasta was freshly made hence it was very chewy.
The risotto was my favourite, it was very refreshing because it was slightly sour.
However the portions could have been bigger.
Artichoke risotto
The experience dining there was purely an eating experience because the people dining there were so loud that you cannot have a normal conversation.

[Review 1414] Bakery and snack shop @ 天將麵包 T & C Bakery

On the left there is a bakery called 天將麵包 T & C Bakery and on the right there is a snack shop 天將 that serves cooked foods which are both under the same company.
Anyway, tried the pandan cake from the bakery and a marinated chicken leg from the cooked foods section.
The cake was the usual Chinese chiffon cakes, it was slightly too sweet for me and the egg taste was stronger than the pandan.
I would have liked the pandan to taste stronger, after all it is a pandan cake!.
As for the chicken leg it was re-heated and it was not as dry as expected.

Not a fan of Korean food but tried the stir-fried glass noodles.
The noodles were al-dente and the texture was similar to konjac noodles.
There was lots julienne vegetables and thinly sliced beef and it was very garlicky as the reviewers said.

[Review 1412] London's Belgo versus Frites Belgium on Tap @ FRITES Belgium on Tap

FRITES Belgium on Tap

https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/londons-belgo-versus-frites-belgium-on-tap-e2214016
I have always wanted to come here, but the locations were not that convenient.
I finally got motivated to come because so many new restaurants have opened here such as Greco Pi, which was the one I actually wanted to go, but since it was a cold day, I went to this place instead.
Ever since I had moule frites in London, I have always had a craving for them, I tried Belgo’s East in Hong Kong but it was not good.
The restaurant style at this place was similar to the Friar tuck style with high ceilings and wooden tables and benches.
They serve the same range of mussels as Belgo’s.
However it is slightly cheaper to eat in London, according to Belgo's online menu.
For a kilo of mussels in London it costs £12.95 and for a kilo of mussels here it costs $345 (approx £28).
The mussels were served in half or one kilo portions, so I ordered two half kilos for two different flavours.
I ordered the Laksa and the Hoegarden.
The mussels were fresh just like the London ones, however they were very hairy inside and salty.
The ones in London were not that salty compared to Hong Kong.
The mussels here were so salty that I felt my mouth and throat stung after eating them.
The Laksa one was the saltier of the two and it tasted like Green curry and nothing like Laksa.
The Hoegarden was not that strong, but it was still too salty.
They were both served with a slice of Rye bread and fries that were fried to perfection, and there was a pot of mayonnaise to go with the fries.
Laksa
Overall this restaurant is OK, but I was not satisfied that I had to sit near another table when the restaurant was 90% empty.
If the mussels were not so salty, then it would have been perfect.

[Review 1411] Chocolate jelly noodles with ice-cream @ 五代同糖 Five Generations Dessert

I do not usually come here for desserts because the dessert I had before was too oily, and the other one was too sweet.
However this time I saw three items that I thought were quite good, one was the chocolate jelly noodles with ice-cream, the second was brown sugar noodles with fruit and the third was the steamed egg white.
When you enter this restaurant there are some small inclined steps which easily trip people up at both entrances which happened to me and some other people.

Chocolate jelly noodles with ice-cream
It looked 95% like the product shot but without the chocolate wafer rolls as shown on the product shot.
I am surprised that no one has written about the chocolate noodles on OpenRice, but the combination of the ingredients in the dessert was really good.
It was chocolate noodles, coco pops, chocolate chips and chocolate ice-cream served in carnation milk.
The sweetness was just right for me.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Okinawa black sugar jelly noodles with melon
It was black sugar jelly served in carnation milk with pieces of melon and crystal sago seeds.
The sweetness of the sugar jelly was just right.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Steamed egg white
Not sure if this contains cream but its Chinese description is steamed egg white and cream.
The presentation looked exactly like the product shot and it was slightly warm when served.
It just tasted like the usual steamed egg white pudding but there was no creamy taste if I was judging it by the Chinese menu.

[Review 1410] Stick cakes and chocolate and walnut slice @ 東海堂 (已搬遷) Arome Bakery

I only buy cakes from Chinese bakeries when something unusual is sold.
I found the stick cake quite interesting even though its appearance is nothing like a stick.
It was a rectangular cake with a thin strip of sauce in the centre.
From the side view you can see there is not much sauce in proportion to the cake which was fine for me because too much would have made it too sweet because the cake is sweet itself.
For the stick series there were four flavours: strawberry, blueberry, chocolate and coffee.
I bought the blueberry and chocolate, next to these cakes I saw a chocolate walnut cake so I got that as well.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Blueberry stick cake
The cake was nice and soft and did not have that typical Chinese buttery smell for which I was quite grateful, and the sweetness of the blueberry jam was just right.
The only let down was that it was so oily. You can see the layer of oil that has soaked in the cake.
For the chocolate version it is hard to see the extent of the oil because the cake is brown.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chocolate and walnut cake
This must be the best Chinese cake slice I have hard, the cake texture was firm and again there was none of that Chinese buttery smell and taste, and the walnut paired nicely with the chocolate cake.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chocolate stick cake
The chocolate cake with cream was not as nice as the blueberry one because I did not like the cream, however it was also oily as well.
