++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Carpaccio sushi salmon and tuna
This was bascially the usual sushi topped with sliced onions, a slice of lemon and some Italian dressing.
Overall they tasted quite pleasant and it was just like carpaccio with rice.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Steamed egg with urchin
This tasted too salty.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Seafood hotpot with crab
There was not enough soup to cover the contents when it came, so asked for more broth so that the contents could be ensured that they got cooked.
The crab did not taste that fresh and it came straight from the Freezer because there was ice particles on it.
The cutlery for the crab had to be requested.

[Review 1497] Marble Chiffon cake @ 美心西餅 Maxim's Cake Shop
28/03/2012
美心西餅 Maxim's Cake Shop
旺角港鐵旺角東站1號舖
Shop 1, Mong Kok East MTR Station, Mong Kok
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/maxims-marble-chiffon-cake-e2226157
The Maxim's marble chiffon cake was on promotion for 2 for $20.
In the past the other chiffon cakes were also 2 for $20, the flavours in the past were Earl Grey and Pandan.
As I had to get two I chose one with more marbling patterns on it and the other I chose more chocolate in it.
I tried the one with more marbling patterns on it first.
As expected, it was soft and your fingers are oily after touching it.
I did not like it because it just tasted the same as the usual cakes with strong egg taste and it was too sweet to taste anything else.
But when I tried the other cake, it was much nicer, it was less eggy and sweet.
There is some inconsistency in the taste which is affected by either the sweetness levels or the proportion of the chocolate in it matters.

[Review 1496] Bigger than the average sized Pontikeges @ Momoko Boulangerie

https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/bigger-than-the-average-sized-pontikeges-momoko-e2225550
The usual pontikeges I see at Japanese inspired bakeries are about 4.5 cm in diameter, but the ones here are quite big about 7cm in diameter.
They are HKD5 for 3.
The texture is chewy in the middle and the outside is like a profiterole.
The pontikege has black sesame in it, and the sweetness of the pontikege was just right.
Although it was sweet, there was some savoury taste as well.

[Review 1495] Mushroom burger series at McDonalds @ 麥當勞 McDonald's

Shop G11-17, G/F, CC Wu Building, 302-308 Hennessy Road, Wan Chai
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/mushroom-burger-series-at-mcdonalds-e2225293
Tried the mushroom burger series which reminds me of Burger King's mushroom swiss.
You don't often see McDonalds serve burgers with mushrooms, but some other International McDonalds do.
There are two burgers in the Mushroom burger series: the Mushroom burger and the Mushroom Deluxe.
Both these burgers have a quarter pounder beef patty inside.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Mushroom burger
The Mushroom burger is the lighter option of the two which is only the maized topped bun itself, a piece of sliced cheese, quarter pounder beef patty and sauce.
As I am not keen on beef I found the quarter pounder beef patty too heavy.
I would have preferred the beef patties from the Hamburgers.
Luckily the sauce was really strong and covered the taste of the beef.
The sauce was dark beige and it tasted really tangy with a hint of black pepper.
The grounded black pepper could be visually seen in the sauce.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Mushroom Deluxe:
This is basically the Mushroom burger with a rash of bacon and some lettuce.
It was quite messy to eat because there was a lot of fillings inside.
It does not taste as strong as the Mushroom burger because there is lettuce and a rash of bacon in it as well.
There is less sauce in it too.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
I would recommend ordering the Mushroom burger in the Mushroom series if your a Mushroom lover.

Hokkaido pumpkin croquette HKD13:
Have not tried their croquettes so decided to try it.
Basically it is mashed pumpkin inside the croquette which is coated in Japanese cutlet coating.
I found the coating too heavy and oily.
The croquette filling itself was not too creamy but it was too sweet.

[Review 1493] ☆Kitchen J☆ take away @ kitchen J

Shop 112, 1/F, East Point City, 8 Chung Wa Road, Tseung Kwan O
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/kitchen-j-take-away-e2225171
Ordered two items for take away: Green tea lychee soda and the warabi mochi with black honey.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Green tea lychee soda
The drink was surprisingly nice because the bitterness of the green tea powder toned down the sweetness of the lychee syrup and the soda fizz jazzed up the drink.
Overall I really liked it, but if there was less lychee syrup then it would have tasted nicer.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Warabi mochi with black honey:
The mochi was nice and soft, however the outside was slightly dehydrated that the powder fell off.
The black honey was in a separate little dish, so it was optional and you can control how sweet it is.
The black honey was nice and strong but not too cloyingly sweet.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Tea soda:
After trying the green tea lychee soda, I found the fruit syrup too sweet, so this time I tried the plain Tea Soda.
The tea soda tasted better than the green tea because it was made with red tea which tastes strong with some sharp bitterness to it.
There was some syrup in this drink which had sunk to the bottom and the sweetness was much more pleasant compared to the Lychee green tea soda, but I would still like to try plain green tea soda next time.

[Review 1492] Roast meat restaurant hidden amongst the market @ 陽明燒臘飯店
08/03/2012
陽明燒臘飯店
灣仔石水渠街21號
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/roast-meat-restaurant-hidden-amongst-the-market-e2223234
This roast meat shop is well camouflaged amongst the fish stalls and butchers that you will easily miss it.
As well as selling roast meats to take away, it is also a restaurant.
I got the roast pork with rice for $24 which comes with soup.
As well as the roast pork I had the chance to try the roast meat, the roast meat had crispy skin and the skin was nice and it tasted like it had sesame oil on it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Roast pork with rice
The roast pork looked visually lean, but it was extremely fat.
Every time you took a bite in it, you could feel the fat in between the meat and the texture was the same as pork neck meat except for the roast pork was much softer.
Luckily the meat was not too salty or too sweet.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Soup
The soup was watercress soup and there was a huge piece of fruit peel in it.
The pork used for this broth did not seem that fresh, hence the fruit peel was probably used cover that up.
