Usually I come here for roast or order their daily lunch if it looks good.
That day they had mushroom ravioli and mulligatawny soup which is not normally on the menu so I went in for it.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Mushroom ravioli with pesto cream sauce
Although there were only about five raviolis on the plate it tasted delicious.
The mushrooms inside were wild mushrooms and had a really nice strong taste.
The sauce for the ravioli was really creamy and it there was pesto puree topped on top and tomato sauce in the middle.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Mulligatawny soup
This was a light watery soup that was curry flavoured.
There was rice in it as well which is similar to the texture of rice you find in the Chinese congee.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Grilled fish with green peas
The grilled fish was delicious and it was on a bed of generous mash.
The highlight of the dish was the green pea puree on top.

[Review 1553] Another good Dining Concept's restaurant @ Bistecca Italian Steak House
06/05/2012
Bistecca Italian Steak House
中環蘭桂坊15號協興大廈2樓
2/F, Grand Progress Building, 15 Lan Kwai Fong, Central
It is one of the Dining Concept's restaurants and the food was good just like other restaurants under that company.
The only thing that let it down was the table allocation.
I booked a table and when I got there it was only 10% full, even when I left the restaurant was pretty empty so I couldn't understand why i was not given a spacious table.
Apart from that the food was delicious, I had the chicken pasta that day and it was so delicious, the pasta was al-dente and the basil flavouring was strong.
It was slightly too salty though.

[Review 1552] Super star Nepalese Mo Mo, Thukpa and Chaumin @ 2star's Fast Food Center

2star's Fast Food Center

Shop 2G, G/F, 9 Cross Road, Galway Court, Wan Chai
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/super-star-nepalese-mo-mo-thukpa-and-chaumin-e2232949
I have never tried Nepalese food but there is one in Central which is up the hill and there is another one there by in Wan Chai however that shop does not look so welcoming.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
2star's stood out behinds the stalls and its red colour design reminded me of Pakora that used to be located in Causeway Bay which also had the delicious Tandoori Chicken leg.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Apart from Nepalese food there was also Philipino style fried fish and Indian dishes, but as I haven't tried Nepalese food I ordered the Nepalese dumplings, soup noodles, and fried noodles and an Indian curry.
The only disadvantage is that there is no air conditioning, so it is a real torture in the summer.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Nepalese dumplings:
In Nepalese they are called Mo Mo and there are two shapes in Nepal, one that looks the same as Shanghai dumplings and the other looks like steamed Potstickers.
The ones that were served here looked like Potstickers.
There were three different MoMo's: Chicken, pork or Vegetarian and I chose the Pork.
Inside the MoMo it was quite similar to the Chinese ones except that they have purple onions inside and not chives.
The purple onions gave it a really nice flavour.
These dumplings are served with soy sauce and spicy sauce (corner of the picture) which is watery and made of pureed chilis and other spices which is extremely hot!
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Chicken soup noodles:
As I have not tried Nepalese noodles before I did not know what they would look like but they really surprised me.
The noodles are similar to the Chinese thick noodles which become soft when they absorb the broth.
Although the noodles look simple, it was delicious. It was plain chicken broth with generous chopped mustard greens, coriander and purple onions and some chicken.
The mustard greens had this lovely bitterness that made the soup bitter and I really liked it.
Anyway the presentation of these noodles look like those noodles served in Mun Nam but the soup here is not so thick.
I really loved it because there was lots of finely chopped mustard greens and the strong taste of the mustard green in the soup.
In Nepalese it is called Thukpa
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Stir fried noodles
The noodles here were the same type as above but stir-fried and it looked and tasted like the Chinese style.
In Nepalese it is called Chaumin.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Indian lamb curry
Apart from lamb curry there was also other vegetables that were nice and the soup was really nice.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Soup
The soup was wholesome and there were some spices and pulses.

[Review 1551] Another bakery on Lockhart Road @ Delifrance

Sunny bakery used to be the only bakery on Lockhart Road, now there is another one.
I don't usually buy from Delifrance because the bakery is localised but decided to get some croissants to spread some Pate on it.
Anyway the croissant was $9 and because Delifrance is celebrating its opening, there was a free Croissant with every purchase.
Croissant on the right was the free one.
Anyway I ate the free croissant first.
The free one was crispier and I knew it was the free one because the one I was picked was soft.
I was a bit shocked because it was savoury and it was sweet as well.
After I finished it, I ate the soft one that I bought, it was also savoury with some sweetness as well but not as sweet as the complimentary one.
Luckily it was buy one get one free because it worked out cheaper per croissant.
I doubt I would get their croissants again because they are localized and taste sweet.
This delifrance branch has a limited range on the ground floor and the full range is served upstairs.

I was surprised to see a cookie shop on this street and it was new one so went in.
This shop has other branches in Causeway Bay and Happy Valley.
The owner is from Singapore and sells Asian style cookies such as meat floss rolls and egg floss rolls.
They also had cakes but I was disappointed they didn’t have the famous Singaporean Pandan cake or Pandan flavoured items.
I was not hungry that time so I just got a Pearl barley drink and an Agar Pudding. The Agar pudding had three flavours: Pineapple, peach and egg.
I tried the peach because it was different.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Pearl Barley drink
The drink was light and refreshing and not too sweet.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Peach Agar Pudding
Quite sweet and the agar had peach flavouring.
There was also real pieces of peach in the agar pudding too.
The peaches were canned peaches.

[Review 1549] XL Garlic Butter chicken leg, curry & salmon rice @ 肯德基家鄉雞 (KFC) Kentucky Fried Chicken

Tried the set which has the XL garlic butter fried chicken leg and curry.
It also came with the standard drinks and the new portugese tart with red beans which I don't like.
In addition ordered the baked Salmon rice as well because I havent tried it.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Rice and curry sauce
This was delicious and it was not served with Japanese rice which made it even more delicious.
The curry sauce was not spicy but tasted like the Japanese style ones.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
XL Garlic Butter chicken leg
The size of the chicken leg was slightly bigger than the average chicken legs.
The coating was a bit too burnt but tasted strong of butter and garlic just like the coating for Vietnamese garlic butter chicken wings.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Baked salmon rice
There were only two pieces of Salmon in this baked rice and I would prefer more smaller pieces mixed in with the rice.
The rice beneath it was fried rice which was soft and mushy.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Portuguese tart with red beans
I didn't try this because I don't like red beans.

[Review 1548] Your restaurant choice for desserts as well @ 金源小館 Your Restaurant
04/05/2012
金源小館 Your Restaurant
灣仔大王東街3號大旺樓地舖
G/F, Tai Wong Building, 3 Tai Wong Street East, Wan Chai
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/your-restaurant-choice-for-desserts-as-well-e2232637
Usually I come here for Chinese food but I suddenly remembered they do desserts as well so went in to try some.
I was only intending to try two but in the end I tried four and there are two more I want to try as well.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
This was the first time sitting on the outer table so I had a different view of the restaurant.
I saw these nice chandeliers and French style windows which was really interesting for a Chinese restaurant, but it really matched what I was trying today.
As there are no pictures of the chandeliers I am posting a few here.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I was rather surprised for such a Hong Kong style restaurant that they had western desserts and they even had home made ice-cream!!!!
The qualities of these desserts were really good! It was quite diverse that they cook local dishes and make western desserts.
While I was there, there was quite a few people buying desserts too.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Caramel egg pudding
The rest of the desserts are served in plastic tubs and this one was taken out of the holder and put in a bowl.
The egg pudding was smooth and the caramel sauce was nice too with the usual bitterness.
The sauce was quite runny.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Tiramisu
I thought this was going to be heavy and creamy but it really surprised me because it was light and the sponge was soaked in some liquor which balanced out the creaminess of the mousse.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Blueberry cheesecake
Again, this one tasted better than I thought, it was extremely light and the blueberries had been soaked and had some fizz to it when you ate it.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Whisky ice-cream
I was quite full for ice-cream but the portion looked tiny so tried that as well.
The texture is similar to frozen cream and not ice-cream so the temperature of the dessert is not freezing cold like real ice-cream.
The whisky was strong but I found this dessert too heavy because it just tasted like heavy cream.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The price of these desserts were reasonable too at $19 per dessert.
To try on my next visit: chocolate mousse, durian mousse.
Although I saw a non domestic furry friend in the kitchen it was better than seeing a six legged thing. So I will be back for the other desserts!
