When they opened they used to have braised deer tendons at the snack section, however they do not do that anymore.
They only have it in ready to eat packs now.
It used to be cheaper in the snack section because you can buy it with other items and it would cost less than $60.
The staff said that they no longer serve it because it was a loss leader.
Anyway since I had a craving for it I decided to get a pack but I wasn’t sure if the tendons would be soft enough because the ones they used to have at the snack bar had been braising in the pot all day.
Although they no longer have deer tendons at the snack bar, they can heat it up for you to consume when you buy a packet and if you can’t finish it you can go there at another time and have the rest before it goes off.
I tried the tendons elsewhere and the tendons were soft and the taste of bay leaves was strong.
There were only one or two pieces of carrot, which is good because I prefer more tendons.

[Review 1600] Refreshing summer noodles @ 麵鮮醬油房周月 Shugetsu

Took me a while to find this place but when I got there I was allocated a nice seating area so it paid off for all that walking!
Anyway came here specifically for the summer noodles which are noodles topped with lots of leafy greens and dressing.
Menu description: Lots of potherbs, Japanese basil, white radish sprouts and slow roasted chicken with al dente noodles and mayonnaise.
Summer noodles
The noodles were al dente as described but perhaps too chewy for my liking but the leafy greens made it less chewy because the greens were tougher and complimented the noodles really well.
They selected just the right greens to go with these noodles because both the noodles and the leafy greens were chewy.
Apart from mayonnaise there was also vinaigrette dressing with lots of sesame seeds in it which was tangy but I felt that it was not tangy enough.
They also offer you mustard sauce as well to go with the noodles and chicken.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
While I was there I could smell the bamboo shoots from other peoples noodles which was quite pungent.

Dined here a long time ago but the noodles were not that memorable so left the review until now.
I wished I went recently because they now have the limited edition summer noodles just like "jau yuet 周月" in Central as seen in TaiwanWalker's review.
The summer noodles here have okra, mountain yam and these cute mushrooms on top which would have been fun to eat.
Anyway ordered the Special Tonkotsu which is just the tonkotsu noodles with extra black garlic oil.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Special tonkotsu ramen
Although these are the noodles that I like the soup broth was disappointing as shown on the picture.
The black garlic oil was barely visible and the broth was not thick.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Almond pudding:
The almond pudding was quite nice, it was creamy and silky.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Roasted tea:
This was complimentary and was good for refreshing the palate before the noodles and before the dessert.

[Review 1598] Baked egg pudding @ Panash

https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/baked-egg-pudding-panash-e2239773
I was expecting this baked egg pudding to be sweet just like the other egg puddings in Hong Kong.
When I opened it, there was a layer of caramel on top which has gone lumpy after baking, the taste of that layer was not that strong.
The second egg pudding layer was delicious and smooth, the egg taste was extremely strong but not cloyingly sweet. Its texture and taste is similar to the egg tart filling found in western custard tarts.
Then at the bottom there was runny caramel sauce which had the usual bitterness but not too sweet.

I love their rolls and now there is finally a place to sit down properly and enjoy them, so roll up your sleeves and enjoy!
Anyway there were a few new rolls and this yogurt bear which is just froyo sandwiched in between a macaron shaped chocolate bear.
The macaron was nice and chewy and the sweetness of it balanced with the tartness of the froyo.
I also had a caramel roll too which has caramel pudding in the middle, it was also sweet so it was really nice having the roll with the froyo.
The bill: HKD68

Shop 5, 1/F, Queen's Place, 21 Stanley Street, Central

I knew there was an Awfully chocolate branch in Central but did not know where it was, but since I had already tried the butterscotch cake at the Causeway Bay branch I was not in a rush to try their other items.
However when I was walking on Stanley Street I noticed it and decided to eat there.
Although there are only two seats, the Central location is much more convenient to reach because there are no roads to cross and it is a street with lots of gourmet eateries.
After reading reviews about the super stacked chocolate cake I was really intrigued by the taste and texture because is it really similar to the chocolate roll sold at Quezon (and cheaper as well around $1x per slice).
Chocolate swiss roll at Quezon: http://www.openrice.com/restaurant/commentdetail.htm?commentid=2173821
The chocolate cake is sold by weight which ended up costing me HKD32, they offered to reheat it for me.
When it arrived they also provided me with some water which was really good and professional of them especially for eating sweet things.
The water was just what I needed because I just had some other sweet items beforehand so I did not want the aftertaste of that to interfere with the chocolate cake.
It was really tempting to order something else as well because there was water to refresh the palate and after eating sweet things it is nice to have some water.
Anyway the texture of the cake was soft especially because it was heated up, but the parts that did not get heated up where slightly firmer.
But the taste was strong of cocoa.
Compared to Quezon the texture and taste were nearly the same but the one here is slightly bitter and the one at Quezon is sweeter and super soft and does not need reheating.

https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/triple-sunny-side-up-eggs-brighten-ur-day-ma-sa-e2239769
I came here especially for the triple fried eggs with Chinese barbecue pork with rice.
I can never get enough of runny egg yolks especially with plain boiled rice that is perfectly cooked and soy sauce that is not too sweet or too salty.
Anyway I ordered that and did not know you could have the eggs cooked in other ways because they asked how I wanted my eggs so I just said I wanted the yolk to be runny.
When it came it was three eggs co-joined together with three BIG runny yolks!!
The gourmet barbecue pork was beneath the eggs and there was generous dark soy sauce all over the eggs and rice.
Usually I do not like barbecue pork unless it is lean and soft but from the previous photos on Openrice the barbecue pork looked great.
The pork was sliced thinly as well and there was a fair amount of pork to go with the rice after discarding some fatty bits. It was soft and tender.
The eggs were done nicely and the yolks were big and runny and because there was three egg yolks I did not have to eat the yolk sparingly with the rice.
As well as that it was impressive the eggs did not have an oil smell or have an oil taste. Eggs are really delicate ingredients that absorb any foul flavouring or odours easily.
I felt that this dish was a perfect ratio of rice to pork and eggs and soy sauce, there was not one mouthful that was boring.
All in all, each of those four elements was perfect which made it extremely delicious.
It was like the excitement of having English Breakfast, dipping sausages and other elements into the egg yolk.
Every mouthful was delicious, it was either lovely rice with runny egg yolk, rice with soy sauce, rice with barbecue pork and egg yolk.
There was sufficient amounts of roast pork, rice, and egg to finish most of the dish but in the end I finished with only two spoons of rice left and I wished there was some more soy sauce to finish it off.
The soy sauce they had was extremely nice. There are several places I have been where the soy sauce made the food fantastic.
But the soy sauces are unique in different ways.
The soy sauce here is dark and thick and it is slightly sweet.
Also tried the curry but found it too spicy.
The prices here seem quite reasonable which are less than $30 per dish.
They also have a daily set special which is barely legible unless you are a local Chinese who can probably make out what it saids.
