MR. Vietnamese Baguette House now in Wan Chai

Previously I used to go the one at Fortress Hill, which was far, but now there is a branch in Wan Chai, but it is still too far, so I called for a delivery.

I did not have their menu, but luckily there is one on Open Rice but when I called the set I wanted to order was not on and the baguettes are now cheaper but without drinks.
You can get the Baguette set with chips or prawn crackers and a drink, but as I do not like prawn crackers I just ordered the baguette.
The chips would be soggy by the time it got delivered too so that’s why I did not get the set as well.

As a standard at this place, all baguettes have Vietnamese sausage, Julienne carrots, onions, and pate with a choice of filling: mushrooms, sardines, chicken, pork, pork floss or beef.
There are three choices for the baguette: Charcoal, Original and Black malt.

I chose the Charcoal baguette with mushrooms and the Original baguette with sardines.

The baguettes arrived well on time and the guy had change prepared when I paid.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Charcoal baguette with mushrooms
The Julienne carrots were really nice and refreshing and they have turned an ingredient which I don’t like delicious. The baguette was fresh and crispy and the sauces were strong however there was a lot of MSG in the sauce.
The Vietnamese sausage and mushrooms were thinly sliced which made it easier to eat.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Original baguette with sardines
This tasted the same as the above and there were sardines instead of mushroom.
The baguette for this one was slightly soggy because of the fish.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Both baguettes were split at the top with a gap in the middle like a hotdog which are different from Western baguettes or buns because they are split at the side.
Their baguettes have kept the same standard as the baguettes at Fortress Hill but the one thing I could not taste in the baguette was the liver pate nor could I see it.

Went here ages ago
I have always wanted to try this place but last time I came it was closed.
In a way, I was glad it was closed because I had not read 梵高將軍's review as it was really detailed explaining the ingredients in the soup and the special pickled vegetables you can ask for so I knew at least what to expect.
I should have accepted fate that I didnt have any luck with this place as it was closed the first time I attempted to go.
I should given up recently when the their phone number 2294 0426 didnt ring as well when I called to check if it was open!
Well if their phone is dead I cant see them getting any reservations through the phone, but this same number is not only listed on OR but on other websites as well.
From my previous experiences when I tried to go to places that were closed on my first visit, the food was not good or the items I wanted to try were not available when they were open.
Anyway, went there, and ordered the Prawn noodles.
Waited for a while and it arrived, the soup was lighter than 梵高將軍's, it was not even orange/brown or had those orange oil droplets but if it tastes really nice then I am not bothered.
As the reviews mentioned, it should have prawns and dried prawns, so I decided to take pictures to flaunt the dried prawns and prawn.
I picked the prawn and put it in a separate bowl, then I started to look for the dried prawns.
I was stirring the noodles in my bowl over and over and I could not find any.
I asked the waiter if there were meant to be any dried prawns "ACCORDING TO THE MENU" then she asked another colleague who came over and she told me that they temporarily ran out
I was furious because they should have mentioned it beforehand or at least indicate that on the menu as the dried prawns were the signature ingredient of the noodles as it was highlighted on the menu.
The resulting broth was not as strong as it should be!
I asked since when they didn't have ran out of dried shrimps and she said it was recent so it should be available when I next come back.
This was my first visit for a HKD1XX bowls of noodles and scammed as if  I would come back again???????
Also their telephone number does not work so how I could I call next time  to ask?

Usually this happens at busy fast food places where they run out of ingredients but since those dishes are not that expensive it acceptable to go without or have it changed.

This is not on for a (Michelin rated restaurant at the time of dining )to be doing that to customers.
If I had not read the earlier reviews I would be thinking my noodles were worth $150 when actually part of the ingredients were missing!
I wonder how many people have eaten the prawn noodles recently without being given the dried shrimp without knowing it?

They did offer to let me to choose another noodle but there was nothing else I really wanted, and it was just one of those restaurants where there is only one item that I wanted to try.

I suppose I should have changed it to the oyster and meat noodles 蠔豉肉片麵 but I couldnt think straight at that moment!
I then asked for the pickled vegetables as GF said they tasted nice, but the tone of her voice sounded like I deserved it because I didn't get any dried shrimps!!
Not surprised that they are not recommended anymore on Michelin.

Intended to come here before because I saw tables outside with people eating delicious fried eggs with soy sauce and rice.
However I went to the wrong restaurant which has now gone out of business.

I went to the wrong restaurant because they had tables of people on the pavement in front of Cheong Kee so I thought the food came from Cheong Kee Restaurant.

At this place I tried their curry and fried egg with luncheon meat, which I went to the wrong restaurant for a while ago.
There were quite a few choices with fried egg and the two interesting combinations were eggs and braised mushrooms, eggs with Vietnamese sausage, eggs and bacon and you can get extra curry sauce with it for $2.
For curry they had an interesting one, which is based on the car noodle ingredients with pigs stomach, intestines and pigs skin!

Ordered Fried egg with luncheon meat and Deep-fried beef in cutlet with curry sauce.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Fried egg with luncheon meat:
I was slightly disappointed when I saw this because some of the yolk was cooked and the other yolk got mixed in with the white.
I was not expecting the fried egg to taste delicious but the cooked yolk was creamy and not starchy and there was no excess oil or foul oil smell so I really liked it.
The luncheon meat was crispy but soft inside and it was not too salty so it was quite healthy.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Deep-fried beef in cutlet:
It rare to see beef in cutlet batter so tried it and it was quite nice. The curry sauce was separate so the beef remained crispy.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Curry sauce:
The curry sauce was slightly sweet and there was a hint of mint in it.
There was also pieces of potato in the curry sauce.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Overall the customer service was quite good just as others mentioned which was really surprising and they also had tissue for use.
I only had an issue with the Chinese spoons and the Chinese must have a special skill eating steaks and food with these, but they let me change to a metal spoon, which was nice.

The dish sounded really interesting in Chinese [鮮橙香脆三文魚] it was literally Fresh orange and crispy salmon.
I thought it was going to be how the usual sweet and sour fish but with orange sauce.
Usually when they say FRESH it does not necessarily mean fresh.
I also ordered it because not many Chinese cuisines serve salmon, however there are lots of Chinese cuisines trying to be Western by making baked rices and putting salmon in it.
When it came, it was fried thinly sliced salmon in bread coating.
The texture of the salmon was surprisingly not too fibrous.
The orange sauce really matched the fish, especially because it was watery and had bits of freshly squeezed orange in it.

The other egg dish was also interesting 菜花蜆肉煎蛋, clams and chives omlette.

After I finished dining, I noticed this shop across the road, it stood out from the rest of the places on this grey street.

Anyway, there was bright lights above the name so I could only see "?UCK SHOP"
I saw that from a view in a 10' o Clock direction from my left.
Then when I crossed the road I realised it was TUCK SHOP.

I love Tuck Shops in UK because you can get flying saucers and sherbet fountains.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The one here sold Japanese canned drinks, sweets, crisps and on the corner they have hot dogs, popcorn and they sell coffee and smoothies too.

As I just had dinner I decided to get a hot dog without the bun.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Johnsonville sausage
The hotdogs they use are by Johnsonville and it was grilled and served with Mustard.
It was not as hot as I'd thought it would be but since I was in a hurry it made it easier for me to finish it off and it just tasted like the usual hotdogs.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I wished I got popcorn instead because it looked good too and it seems to be coated in caramel or chocolate because it was dark and glistening.

I have always wanted to go this place because there are so many choices of broths and noodle combinations to choose from.

Got there late in the afternoon and there were only three people finishing off their tea then.
The air conditioning at the restaurant was quite stuffy so it was lucky that it wasn’t that hot that day, but hot enough that you felt the air conditioning was not adequate.
On my table there were lots of toast crumbs which didn't seem to bother me, but it meant that no one wiped the table after the previous customer left.
I doubt they were busy because there were only three people in the restaurant and about five empty tables.

Again, I learnt another lesson, I should have dined here a few years ago before they changed the menu and when it was on good tracks.
Before they changed the menu, there were so many items that you would have difficulty deciding what to get.
I would have ordered Grilled beef, deep fried squid tentacles if they had them.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Pork bone broth
I am not expecting the quality of the broth served at ramen joints but it was so bland and pale.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Bite sized dumpling
I didn’t realise they were that small.
Anyway they reminded me of those miniature Taiwan gyozas that used to be sold in MK a few years ago, it was such a shame I didn’t take pictures of them then.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Courgettes
There were three slices and a total waste of money for $3, they were not fresh and under cooked.
They were still crispy and the bitterness of courgettes were nearly as bitter as bittermelon.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Fried scallops
It was impressive some of the fried items were served separately so they remained crispy.
This was the only item that tasted nice!
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Hopefully this restaurant gets back on its track and serves the nice noodles it did a few years ago as seen on Openrice.

Tried the Kumamoto Prefecture beef noodles [熊本牛拉麵」

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Kumamoto Prefecture beef noodles
When I saw the menu it just reminded me of Taiwanese noodles with beef shin and pickled vegetables.
The presentation looked awful especially the broth.
Anyway, the ramen just tasted how it usually does with pork bone broth however I felt that it was slightly too salty.
The pieces of beef shins were quite big and tender.
As for the pickled vegetables they were my favourite and taste the same as snow cabbage.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The pieces of cucumber look off and dehydrated!
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
SAME AS ALWAYS the air conditioning at this place is always too cold.
