Went past and saw these green grilled cakes for $2.5 each and didnt know what they were so stopped by and took a look.
Basically they were similar to filled mochi but grilled like those chiu jau style tea cakes.
I was quite impressed they were not that greasy and they were still luke warm so I ate them immediately before they got cold.

Custard filled Green tea grilled mochi cakes:

The grilled mochi was still warm and the custard filling inside was really nice. There was a strong custard taste and it was not too sweet.

The mochi pastry was really nice and chewy and not not too burnt, the grilled parts were slightly crispy. The thickness of the pastry was just right to balance out the filling and you could taste the green tea in the chewy pastry as well.

I was not that hungry so opted for sushi because you can choose how much you want to eat.
I like this place because they have scallop sushi for $6.
I got 2 scallop sushis, 2 sweet prawn sushis and a lobster salad warship.
The wasabi that came with it was really good because it was really strong and after dipping the the sushis in the soy sauce the sushi did not fall apart.
Some places the sushi base is not firm so when you dip it in soy sauce, the rice cluster just falls apart.

I have always wanted to eat here because of their luxurious noodles with foie gras and truffle, however Tai Kok Tsui is really hard to locate!

Anyway finally found it but I went during the day so I couldnt order the noodles with foie gras but I ordered the signature preserved egg and noodles with oyster sauce and foie gras oil.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Preserved egg

From the photos this preserved egg looks so cool! The preserved yolk is molten.
When it came it was exactly like the ones in the previous reviews.
The texture of the preserved egg is mushier than the usual preserved eggs that when you pick it up with chopsticks the preserved egg white breaks.
The taste of the preserved egg yolk was really strong and delicious.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Preserved ginger

Initially I thought it was boring sweet pickled ginger but I was wrong.
I appreciated the way they did not use colouring to make it pink.
The taste was really sour and I loved it and I ate all of it, and it was really refreshing to finish off with that after eating a really strong tasting preserved egg.
The pickled ginger is preserved themselves.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Oyster sauce
When I ordered I thought the oyster sauce would be seperate from the foie gras oil.
I usually ask them not to give me the oyster sauce because I do not like the Lee Kum Kee type.
Anyway when it came the oyster sauce looked different so I gave it a try and I was amazed!
It had real oyster taste, the Hiroshima oyster type.
The only complaint was that it was too sweet, but it went nice with the noodles and the lettuce.
As for the foie gras oil I could vaguely taste it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Lettuce

The lettuce was nicely blanched and the soup was really nice and not water as I initally thought, so the lettuce had taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Noodles

I loved these egg noodles and the lovely oyster sauce really enhanced it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Next time I will come back in the evening and try the truffle noodles.

Homemade Pate‚ with Cognac and Fresh Green Peppercorns

Ordered this because I needed to eat something before eating a sweet dessert.
The pate was really smooth but the cognac was not strong enough.

The fresh green peppercorns were really interesting, they were not solid inside, when you bite into them they burst open with juice!
The peppercorns were not hot as I imagined but the skin of the peppercorn was where the peppercorn taste came from.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Tub Tim Krob Greyhound Style

Last time I did not try this so I came back to try it again.
Basically it is a scoop of young coconut sorbet with coated water chestnuts.
The sorbet was sweeter than the one I tried previously and this one was icier and it had less young coconut meat in it.
The coated water chestnuts were nice and crunchy with some gellish texture outside.

[Review1836] Harringtons anyday anytime would be great @ Harrington's (已結業)

I love my perfect Sunday roast and I found it ! Right here in Harringtons!
Shame it is only served on Sundays.
Anyway for $228, there is a choice of starters, roast at the carvery table and dessert.

From the moment I stepped in the restaurant it just felt like home, well spaced out tables and reasonably high ceilings.

My table was by the window, and the air conditioning was just right, it was not like a refrigerator and it was natural, gentle relaxing breezes.
Although there is not much of a view from the window, but the bushes by the window were really comforting and I don’t know why.

Along with all that there was BLUR and other songs playing in the background
There were no bugs or flies on them and it did not have any strong plant smell.

The tiling on the floor was a familiar scene too.

On the previous review, it said “the fish pie was to die for” but I wanted the roast, so I ordered both!
But in general, if the food is real pure British food, it can’t taste wrong!

For starters there were two I really wanted to choose which was either the prawn cocktail or the crab cakes.
In the end I chose the crabcakes, and for dessert I chose Strawberries and cream.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Fish Pie
The same comment as the previous reviewer, it was really to die for.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Crab cakes

These were delicious but the crab cakes were tiny!
The crab cakes were made with 98% crabmeat.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Roast from the carvery

Its hard to see from the pictures because of the red lamp, but there was swede, roast parsnips and carrots.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Strawberries and cream

Although it was just simply strawberries and cream, it was just simply delicious. The cream was thick and tasted similar to clotted cream but a whipped version, it was slightly sweetened.
It would be great if there was more cream, because I was eating it sparingly.

Initially I had a really long review for this but since I did not re-save my draft after thirty days I lost my draft.

Although a lot of people did not like this place, I loved this place!
I felt that this restaurant had great potential and if it opened overseas it would do great there.
Pity my review could not have been submitted earlier.

Before this place opened they had so many advertisements, even trams were plastered by Cantopop, I loved the vibrant design and it reminded me of the 1960s era.

I hardly ever eat at Cha Chaan Tengs (Chinese cafes) because the food is oily.

I was attracted to this place because they used Western concepts in their cooking, and not faking Western food when it is actually Chinese.
As well as that they do not use MSG and their vegetables are sourced from known organic suppliers in the New Territories.
It was great to see this sort of food being taken to the next level.

They had so many fun items such as home made macaroni, beef jerky, sweet potato leaves, fermented beancurd and honey on toast!!!
Some of the items on the menu take you back in time too such as "Disco sweet and sour pork with rice".

Inside the restaurant it was so modern too and the plates were memorable.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Homemade macaroni with beef jerky

When it came, it was so colourfully presented, there was purple cabbage which contrasted the dark brown macaroni.
The taste of the stir fried macaroni was amazing, there was rich black beans and thai basil taste.
Since the macaroni was homemade, it was slightly squashed at the ends.
I liked it the way they called the beef as "beef jerky". It sounds so American and basically beef jerky is the snack dried beef.
The greens they picked were tender ones too!

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fried egg, Sous vide cooked BBQ pork and rice

I loved the sous vide pork, it was slow cooked and extremely soft and tender.
This is probably why the Hong Kongers did not like it because they were probably expecting the usual roast pork and not for that price.
Anyway I liked it and it was fat free.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Cantopop Bomb (Scotch egg)
 0 讚好

I was surprised to see this on the menu, but on the menu there was so many other surprises and many other items I would like to try such as the Sweet potato leaves, fermented beancurd with honey on toast.
Anyway, the scotch egg was an egg encased in their homemade luncheon meat and covered in breadcrumbs.
The homemade luncheon meat was really soft and not that salty.
The egg yolk was runny which makes it better than an authentic scotch egg.

For the sauce it was tomato sauce, not ketchup but home made sauce with pieces of tomato in it, and I loved that as well because it was not too sweet.

I have always wanted to dine here but this restaurant was hard to find.
When they had the popup store at Landmark, I went but they did not serve the full menu, so I went to this branch.

Menu @ the Landmark popup store

The full menu is listed simply on an A4 sheet of paper.

Since I wanted to try so many sausages I ordered the sausage sampler.

I dined at BRAT because I am not fond of pork/beef sausages although I do eat them especially the proper British ones, but at BRAT they have vegetarian and chicken based sausages.
Interestingly there are two vegetarian ones and they are the most expensive at $108 each a la carte.

On the menu, they have 15 different sausages which is quite a choice, and just over half were chicken/turkey based sausages so I had a hard decision choosing which four for the sausage sample.

The choices were: Artichoke, Bourbon, Brat, Chipotle, Chorizo, Frank, Gruyere, Habaneros, Italian, Lemon, Pesto, Portobello, Sun dried tomatos mozzarella, Vegetarian Italian and Vegetarian Choptle.

The four that I selected happened to be mostly chicken and turkey based.
As well as the sausage sampler I ordered the Fries with truffle mayo.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
The sausage sampler came with two pickles and two sauces, the four sausages I ordered were Lemon, Portobello, Artichoke and Vegetarian.

Lemon (Chicken & Turkey based sausage)
This sausage had Lemon, tarragon, fennel seed and red pepper in it.
I was hoping the lemon would taste strong but it was not and I could only taste lemon rind.

Portobello (Chicken & Turkey based sausage)
This sausage had Portobello mushrooms, dried mushrooms, porchini and sage in it.
This was really nice, not only could you smell the mushrooms you could also taste and see bits of it in it as well.
The colour of this sausage looked like if it was made from pork if you compare it to the lemon.

Artichoke (Chicken & Turkey based sausage)
This sausage had Artichoke hearts, garlic, sun dried tomatoes in it.
The artichoke taste could have been stronger but all I could taste was the dried tomatoes.
The colour of this sausage looked like if it was made from pork if you compare it to the lemon.

Vegetarian
This sausage had Aubergine, red wine, garlic, fennel, gluten in it.
I found this one the saltiest but it was the nicest, however it was slightly dry but I loved the caraway seeds in the sausage.

For the pickles I was given Relish and Saukeraut and for the sauces Whole grain and Dijon mustard.

Other sauces and condiments I would have liked to try as well: truffle dijon, mature cheddar and sauteed mushrooms.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fries with truffle mayo:

They served French fries and the fries were perfectly done.
Although the fries were nice on its own, the mayonnaise was really nice too, it was thick and creamy with strong truffle taste.
